The option is nice but also I personally enjoy using nicer over ears or nice iems (even with the quest output jack, its still a big upgrade) with vr and the audio quality really adds to my experience​. And latency isn't even a question with wired @viktorianas

I feel the 3s keeping the specs but making itself cheaper in everyway will do nothing but good as it phases out the quest 2 and lets developers work with the quest 3 as a baseline for graphical fidelity and performance.

That's what I'm hoping. It's also much easier to recommend to newcomers who aren't sure if they want to invest more as Quest 3 is the newest model and will be supported the most going forward. A proper replacement for the Quest 2 as someone's door into VR.

A huge impact on battery life is the required screen brightness. Pancake lenses are super light inefficient meaning the display has to be super bright behind the lens, while the fresnel lenses are almost lossless in brightness

The price seems right. I think most people are hanging out to the "downgrade" of the lenses. And I understand that but people who haven't tried vr will still have their minds blown by the quest 3s. I mean doesn't seem like a big upgrade from the quest 2, but at the same price? Another thing I think they are missing is that this will have color passthrough and mixed reality is something meta, pico, apple, Snapchat, etc are developing and seems like cool tech. I would love to have color passthrough in my quest 2.

People keep downplaying this as a "downgrade" to Quest 3, but imagine if the two were switched. Quest 3s comes out first, and then Quest 3. You'd have a substantial, snappier upgrade to Quest 2 for the same price, with much much better passthrough. Then You'd have a a substantial lense and sweetspot upgrade for $200 more later if you so desired.

even with the fresnel lenses, using my quest 2 daily felt great, finding the sweet spot once or twice then putting it on was quick and easy, you need a better strap though... i go a 20$ aliexpress one and it's great, super cushioned and all

$300 quest 3s is a perfect reasonable price, $200 away from quest 3 ($500 128GB) and $350 from quest 3 ($650 512GB) headset. I think that is a big difference worth the price meta chose for the quest 3s. Good point of getting a used quest 3 versus a new quest 3s for probably a close similar price.Just get used from meta that has been inspected, because who knows what previous owner may have done to it…that is the risk.

Really impressed (but really happy!) they were able to pull this off! because 299 is way cheaper than when Quest 2 released when ajdusted for inflation (21% cheaper to be exact) It provides incredible value for that cost!! And it even comes with double the memory than Q2 base model

I agree. This is a great price point for a solid first headset. The Quest 2 lens system is tried and true. The CPU and memory bumps are going to be are good enough for the next few years and the color passthrough that let you roam without boundaries and use mixed reality is pretty freaking awesome.

The point is, that the immense performance upgrade is now accessible. Developers can target Quest 3 hardware from the beginning, allowing for higher render resolutions (Quest 2 in standalone mode is under sampling massively in most games) higher refresh rates (usually 72hz on Quest 2 and as low as 36fps projected to 72hz) and of course games with larger graphical and design scope. The Quest 2 lenses are THE best fresnel lenses on the market too, they're really not bad for a 300$ product

As a VR developer, this is a huge deal. Performance and optimization are some of that hardest things for VR development, and now we can give our games nice little visual updates and when making new games we can add better visuals (high quality 3d models, post processing, etc.) This is one step away from all VR games looking worse than Nintendo Wii!

Thanks for all the information on the Quest 3S. I already have the Quest 3 and enjoy using it. I guess the Quest 3S is more for the people who are not fussy about lens quality and more for those that can afford this lower price point. With the Quest 3 I do allot of SIM Racing games and some Flight SIM. Now getting back into some good graphic quality action games and buying them when on sale. I am more interested in what the Quest 4 has that they say may be out in 2026. So will be interested in the Specifications and prices of the 2 versions of the Quest 4 and if this new model gives me anything more that my Quest 3 does not have. Quest 3 keeps coming out with updates quite a bit. Till then. Take care.

I don’t like buying used stuff personally. I don’t know how that person took care of it and with Meta you’re definitely not getting a warranty with a used headset. For some this might actually be the better option with the Quest4 probably releasing in 2026. I honestly think it’s a great deal look at HTC’s new headset with fresnel lenses and the old chipset from the Quest 2 for $900.

So my dilemma is... I am not a gamer and I never owned a VR headset before. I would like to buy one just for watching movies, Netflix, prime, KZbin and so on with passthrough... not in a VR environment. Will the Quest 3s be good enough for that? Remember, I never used a VR headset before so don't this would be a first.

maybe for that you should consider the Xreal Glasses or something like that, I have a review on the channel, but if you are also curious about the VR part ( that is awesome btw ), I would go with the Q3 because it has better res and better lenses. I hope it helps

I think the 3s is a very smart business profit move. It targets its main audience which can’t afford to spend a whopping 700 dollars on a new headset let alone apples 3k headset.

This really doesn't seem like a new value proposition so much as "Hey, all you Quest 2 buyers? Lucky you, you get a somewhat better device now for the same price in the same market segment." Meta gets to push harder for mixed reality and high performance, and consumers get a marginally better device. Everybody wins. BUT... The real test is now whether they will keep Quest 2 support going strong for the rest of this product generation. If they can do that, this will be a fantastic move. If they drop support for the Quest 2 shortly after the 3S launches then a lot of people are not gonna be happy.

In one year, you'll have the new Google headset, the project Swan from Pico, a Quest4...Who will buy a Q3s ?!!!
