I think mirage, as well as odyssey and valhalla, highlight how blindly following the assassins or templars and rejecting any other viewpoint is bad and thats why all of the progress made by the protagonists of each game in both the past and modern day keeps being lost and they all keep fighting each other in an eternal war that drags all of humanity into the crosshairs. The assassins, while they're roughly still the good guys, are getting called out more and more as being basically a cult. This was pointed out even back in unity.
@the_gaming_pizza Жыл бұрын
Actually this theme was even in the first game. Altair slowly starts questioning his mentor and if he’s on the right side. Of course he doesn’t completely shift sides but the line between these two factions really just depends on the writers and directors of each game. Ezio series has a much more black and white story while ac 1 and 3 both has the main character be more abstract.

I don't think Eivor ever *believed* in the Assassin's cause. More of an Enemy of my Enemy thing, temporary alliance for mutual gain, picking up tactics and intelligence on a clandestine group your people has never heard of. To call them friends or even allies would be giving your back to them. It honestly felt *perverse* that Loki/Basim occupied the skin of Eivor after Layla died. I guess that's part of the issue introducing dialogue trees, make-your-own characters, and rpg elements in general. Goes for alot of series. I.e. MY Venom Snake (MGSV) is a selective serial killer, only recruiting the top of the line soldiers and leaving the rest as red stains on the sand. Other people played as if they were Big Boss himself, total altruist non-lethal runs, seeing him/themselves as a saint on the battlefield. Same could apply to Eivor, Cassandra/Alexios, V, Geralt, or any Fallout protag. Tough to sort the wheat (canon) from the chaff (optional dialogue and rogue/paragon paths).
@ShadowViking95 Жыл бұрын
Altair, from AC 1 would later write down "The Three Great Ironies" of the Creed of the Assassins in his codex journal. 1.) That they seek to promote peace, but murder is their means. 2.) They seek to open the minds of men, bur require obedience to a master and set of rules. 3.) They seek to reveal the danger of blind faith, yet they are practitioners themselves. So Basim came to understand at least the second one, of having to follow what his masters say. Than to understand what "freedom" truly means.

I have an entire backlog of games I'll have to redo because I stopped a third of the way through and I have to relearn them, but I did stop playing Mirage for a long while and found that when I went back I could pick it up pretty easily (after ten minutes reading the tutorial, but it was better than most games I play and have to restart)

i’ve always looked at the assassins creed series as”this is badass , there was a people who where set to show the word the truth “ which is. nice, however we aren’t , the world is what we make of it , focus of the bad , it’s death , lies and everything in between. however , focus on what is in front on you , which is life , beauty and another day and everything else goes away , “work” so what your alive another day right.

I actually loved playing mirage, the story was pretty good. As for the assassins and templars I think while it shows that blindly following both ideals can be a detriment I interpret the ending as showing why the assassins win, because we see them change. Roshan could represent the blind faith that can lead to their downfall and after basim went to the cave we see the assassins open to change. They can change their ideals while the templars are dogmatic.

Honestly i do like how games like Mirage are showing the bad and the good of both sides, but I really want to see a modern assassin game that has to deal with the masquarade both sides hide behind in their shadow war coming undone by a third group, maybe the initiates? Or erudito? Or another group entirely who seek to end both groups for good and let the people decide themselves what they want. If i recall right, there was a cut post credits scene that hints at something called "the great shift" which ubisoft cut from Mirage, makes me wonder what they got cooking up for modern times now.

I loved Mirage. It didn't need to be longer than it is, especially for the price they offered it for, and Abbasid Baghdad is a hugely dense, rich and beautiful worldspace to explore. The signature game mechanics returning is a big win I hope they build on, because the stalking zone-based stealth from Creed 3 onwards really wasn't the appeal of the series. I couldn't care less about the Isu/modern day bits of the story at this point, but there's no denying the artistry on display in any of the more recent Creeds. I'm glad Mirage wasn't a DLC. Contextualising it alongside Valhalla, an already punishingly corpulent game, would have both make the structured experience unwelcome and failed to allow its fantastic and underexplored setting to take the spotlight.

I've played ever AC game and made sure to finish Valhalla's DLC before this game came out. First off, I really enjoyed the gameplay. The missions were all good as a minimum. Yeah, the combat could use a little more variety, but it did drive me to do more stealth. The story was the biggest weakness in my eyes. I liked the twist of Nehal and was curious the whole time how the jinn would relate back to Loki, though the answer that it's his past torturer was a little weak for me. I liked the story during the game, and Basim's question of the Hidden Ones, it just needed some revisions to give it more impact. But my favorite thing about the game is its brevity. I beat the game in about 20 hours, doing most of the side content. I think I'm only missing a handful of items to 100%. After Valhalla's 180 hours it took me to beat the base game and all its DLC. I loved how short this is. I like big world games, like Syndicate and the RPGs, so I would love to see Ubisoft make both: release a big game next, then something smaller, back and forth, to keep both sides satisfied and keep us all from getting sick of one type of the other.

Another good comparison with DLC to full game would be with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. It was originally gonna be a FC3 DLC, but it was turned into the wonderful '80s sci-fi acid trip that is Blood Dragon. It's kinda short, you can pretty much speedrun the game in about six hours. It'll always remain a favorite, and if you ever review it, I hope you'll find the reasons I love it as well.

The community was already split. Mirage had zero bearing on that. One thing we can all agree on was the $40 price point being a step in the right direction. Glorified DLC Comparison being MW3 thay was sold for $70-100 setting a new industry standard, making even Tekken 8 think $100 was fair to ask for. Smh The pre-existing camps of AC fans still around are: 1) they buy every installment and don't care as long as they get to parkour around with drippy outfits, no matter the cost. 2) they only got into this series for pseudo-historical settings and getting lost in the myths and legends of the time. They enjoy their time with Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla alike with valid criticisms that aren't utterly fun-ruining. 3) they aren't enjoying anything since Brotherhood or Black Flag but they keep buying out of FOMO. Bitching and complaining about anything that wasn't in the original Desmond storyline. They hate Layla, her team, every new environment, the rpg elements, having a game be "too long," etc.
@JohnZaun Жыл бұрын
So my first AC Game was Odyssey and then Vahalla. I really loved Odyssey one of my favorite gaming experiences from the last console generation and when I went back to try and play Black Flag later on...I hated it. But I guess there was always this tension because I recognized that making a historical fiction game like AC into an RPG is a really neat concept, it also kind of a contradiction and a big risk. And I came to consider and realize and talk with people that a lot of purists of the series really didn't like the RPG format. I ultimatley did...but I've come to understand the point a lot more. So enter Mirage. A game that promised to return to its roots, focus on stealth, and start to go away from my favorite gaming genre in RPGs. Given that the game I played, Black Flag, was something I really didn't enjoy the brief time I had with it...I was filled with trepidation. But, aside from this game being a DLC stuffed into a larger game it ended up really working for me and I ended up really enjoying the stealth, the story, and a bunch of the other things. So in the end I am reassured whether the AC series continues on this route or goes back to RPGs or tries some sort of hybrid approach...I think I will enjoy it either way. Though I would prefer my almost 70 dollar games to be on the longer side, but that's just me.

As a person that actually liked the rpg games for the most part (really liked Odyssey and origins but got burnt out on the bloat of Valhalla) but also really liked the older games as well I thought that mirage did a good job of taking what I liked from both and combining them. I liked that the combat wasn’t amazing bc it really made you want to play stealthily and not just bum rush people with your god abilities like you could in odyssey and Valhalla, I hope the games in the future will build on this format and refine it even more
@JamesZ32100 Жыл бұрын
AC Mirage was the first RPG style AC for me, after years of being keen on the older ACs, with my last AC being Unity. At first I hesitated on buying it, but the idea and setting of Mirage looked promising enough for me to give it a go. It was a great decision, and I ended up loving the game, Basim's whole character, and even bought Valhalla as the RPG style really grew on me (minus the combat). I wish Ubisoft will continue on with Basim's story, if possible, even having it become the next trilogy of the series.

What I like about Mirage is this is the first game where the player actually has to take time and messes up a lot to learn how to be an assassin/hidden one instead of it being instant. I love stories when total wimps like basim turn into ultimate immortal badasses. Basim, from a weak little pussy that would flinch at a threatening posture, piss his pants and run away crying turning into a confident calculated badass that would stand there and smirk at a powerful Viking coming at him, and fighting two at a time.

Actually, I don't think she is. "Ibn la Ahad" directly translates to "Son of nobody". Going in line with the Hidden One's/Assassin's shtick of "casting aside your old life", you cut ties to your family name as well, becoming a son of noone. Roshan's last name is actually BINT la Ahad. Meaning "Daughter of no one". Giving further credence to the "it's a name all Hidden Ones/Assassins adopt" thing

Lemme just get this straight as someone who skipped Valhalla Loki was an Isu who was imprisoned (and apparently gave his blood to Miles? Desmond or William?) (how does that timeline work?) Basim is a decendant of Loki, so he has Isu DNA The Jinni/Nehal/Loki are all the same person At the end of the game it's no longer Loki OR Basim, but a fusion of the two How did Roshan know about Basim's DNA tho?
@C_Cooke Жыл бұрын
Loki was an Isu who betrayed Odin and was imprisoned by him but escaped during the Great Catastrophe and used Isu tech to reincarnate himself like Aita. Basim is Loki’s reincarnation but still his own person. He worked with Alethia to get the staff of Hermes to live forever. He then gave William Miles his blood to gain his trust. By the end of the game Basim pretty much is just a hybrid of himself and Loki. Tried my best to answer all of this but I’m not sure how Roshan knew. Probably because of the vault under Alamut.

Granted it's because I've only ever played Black Flag, Syndicate, Origins, and Valhalla, with me picking up AC3 just recently and I've only ever beaten Black Flag. I only bought Valhalla because my love for Viking history and Norse mythology and culture (my ancestors were viking). But I actually got into the story and thought it was good from what I played (as I said, I haven't beaten it). The gameplay is kinda what kept me from finishing it as they changed the combat and it kinda feels boring now and the missions felt stale after awhile. Imo missions were summed up to "Evior, these people need your help. Oh you're done with that? Well these people need your help." It just got boring to me. That being said I love the story but Black Flag is where I kinda stopped enjoying it (gameplay wise)
