5:45 I don’t know why, but that line about “I long for the day when a gun holds 4 bullets and not the other way around” has always stuck with me. And it shows how the development of technology is basically pushed along by violence. In Creed 1 you had exactly one projectile weapon, and it wasn’t the crossbow. Creeds 2-Brotherhood you had your wrist pistol, with single shot rifles slowly appearing. In this game you get up to 6 flintlock pistols, and Syndicate has you gaining 8 shot revolvers. So cool to me how deeply gunpowder and firearms were adopted by the Assassin Order.

29:10 I always interpreted that little snidbit from abstergo to make the player feel queasy. After all that's happened, from the friends lost, the lives destroyed and the man we got to see Edward become in the end, seeing piracy and thus Edward's entire life effectively censored into something "safe and sober" for the masses, I always thought that was supposed to make the player feel uneasy inside.
@natchu962 жыл бұрын
Safe and sober, while also entirely emphasizing the selfish criminal aspects of the journey to the limits with no touch on the redemption and wisdom gained at the end. A lot of the Abstergo promo videos in the game very much try to smear on freedom while whitewashing templar figures wherever possible when portraying the AC protagonists and it's all very unsettling and cruel when we know what they've been through and stood for.

@gagetaylor1923 жыл бұрын
@@driips8457 I never said anybody HAD to like any character or games. Only it's a well known fact that the Ezio games and Ezio as a character are objectively the best in the franchise. I just hadn't seen such criticism for his character and such praise for another until this video. People forget these days that there's a huge difference between "I like this character better than the other" and "this character is better than the other". A person can say they like Edward until they're blue in the face and that's fine, that's an opinion. But to say that Edward is a better character than Ezio isn't an opinion. Because that goes against clear and well known fact. The criticisms that this guy gave for Ezio don't even touch the quality of his character. Him being mature after every kill after Vieri makes sense because yeah it seems odd, but Ezio throughout all 3 games always proved to be a fast learner. Seeing how Mario was a main contributing factor for Ezio becoming an assassin and Ezio looking up to him it makes sense he learned fast by example of Mario. So he's literally criticizing character growth, like what?

The last piece you said in your conclusion really hit home for me. I've been in a rough patch recently trying to figure things out for my life and my future and idk why but those words really hit home. I love your videos and your take on humanity, you only get one life so live it the best you can. I'm not sure if that's actually where you're coming from or that's just my take on it but either way it was exactly what I needed to hear to pull my head out of my ass and just go and do instead of overthinking everything and bringing myself down. I don't really know what else to say other than thank you for the inspiration and motivation to keep going even if things are hard.

Loved playing this game. Edward is such a fantastic protagonist. I could spent hours sailing the seas and doing ship to ship combat after beating the main story. Blackbeard and Mary Read’s deaths were some of the few times I’ve genuinely cried over a characters death in a video game.

i have always felt sorry for Bonnet in this game. In real life he was only a pirate for 2 years before he was captured and hanged, and was very unsuccessful but that is where the quote " live a short life but a merry one " comes from.

You know, I found this game quite the letdown after 3, for the lowered stealth elements, and what I found to be more generic plot (especially modern day,) but with the new context you gave in your videos, I see both of those games together a heavily thematic story about parents, responsibility, generations, and with rogue a very introspective look on the franchise conflict as a whole.

assassins creed as a whole always held a special place in my heart ever since i got my first playstation cuz it was my first ever game that i bought with my own money that i saved and recently i hit rock bottom back in 2022 i gave up i ended up being all alone, everyone left and i was not able to get results or rewards for anything i did… then i came across this video (yes i like to rewatch your videos lol) and it helped me reflect and just carry on… it made me realise that it is okay if i dont have anyone or anything left i’m still capable of building a whole new thing and end up being better… its okay if people i held respect for like (thatch in game) and people i wanted to know more about and liked being around (like kidd) are gone… i cant bring them back but still i can regrow… that its okay if you’re not being rewarded or getting the result of your work… i just love you fam your work has helped me alot ALOT when i was or at times am low

@@TheDennys21 my honest opinion Ezio was a paragon throughout most of the games. Especially in his latter years and is the kind of person we strive to be. While Edward represents how many if not all of us are when we allow ourselves to be intemperate and ruled by desire not thinking about the future or our actions. I love the Ezio trilogy, not necessarily how desmonds story ended, but to me at least Black Flag was it’s pinnacle….followed, literally by a millimeter, by brotherhood because damn that game is awesome.

8:36 regarding the blank window..... I had heard it was a glitch or something, that the software didn't render what was supposed to be outside. But even in my first playthrough, I never thought that fit, since his other flashbacks have a lot of white void around the edges. I always interpreted the black window (and white voids and such) as part of the memory of the ancestor, and the animus trying to render it. In this case, the window is black because while edward remembers giving this speech and looking out the window, he doesn't remember what was actually outside the window. The window trim is detailed, since he remembers having to look past it (his rundown house) to see his "better life " and at this point, he can't picture what that was (at that time) anymore. [i say edward remembering, but in terms of the game, it would be the strongest memories passed through the genes. Maybe not every detail always shows through, just important or various aspects] **this is similar to the post assassination conversation scenes. You see edward and the victim in details, but nothing of the surroundings, because it doesn't matter**

I don't get feelings of nostalgia from books, movies, or TV shows but I do get them from video games and this one more than any other. I bought the album with all the shanties on it and any time they come on I immediately am reminded of all the emotions I experienced while playing this game. Laughing at Bonnet and Black Beard, being sad by the deaths of the characters I really liked (something i'd never experienced in a video game before). It really was/is amazing.

@jordangustafson13653 жыл бұрын
@@nitkills7070 I'd like to jump in here cause I sort of agree with them. 1st I'll admit it's annoying that the Assassin's are barely in Valhalla. 2nd I never encountered any bugs but I understand if those ruined the game for people. I really liked Valhalla for it's adventures it took you on and the massive world you got to explore. I think the characters were alot better than they've been in the past few entries. Like Black Flag, I feel like Eivor learns about himself as we play through the story just as Edward did. The side character's are really interesting as well. Sigurd, Soma, and some of the other alliances you make are just as interesting as the friends you have in Black Flag. Yes there are a lot of them but I liked the "chapters" that play out as story arcs. It may me feel like playing my own Game of Thrones show. I will admit the fact you have to kill ALL the targets to finish the game is ridiculous. Is it long, yes, but I thought it was entertaining enough it stayed fresh. And I thought Valhalla had enough characteristics from past titles to make it feel new yet nostalgic.
