Honestly, I think my favorite thing about Black Panther is how T’Challa ended up following Killmonger’s lead. He took a different approach to opening up Wakanda, but he realized that keeping the secret was how they were put into a Civil War. You don’t see many movie heroes do things like that, it’s usually “they’re wrong and I’m right”. T’Challa understood the villain’s motive and decided it could be a good direction to go in, just with a different method.

It would've been interesting to see Killmonger among the ancestors, not because he fully deserves it, but because his perspective could help. I don't mean his knowledge of war but his knowledge of the life of a person who grew up outside of advanced Wakanda.

I like thinking of the Wakandan Civil War as two sides with the same end goal but different executions; one side are pacifists while the other are tyrants or more opposed to violence.

Killmonger wanted to rule the world and establish a global black supremacist order. T'Challa decided to end the Wakandan isolationist tradition and actively share in shouldering the world's burdens, promoting harmony among all the Earth's peoples. Only similarity is that both plans involve Wakanda no longer hiding itself.

@@felynecomrade True. Killmonger, unlike T’Challa, grew up being abuse by American racism so he had it out for the colonizers. T’Challa, having grown up in Wakanda and seeing what the isolation did to Killmonger, wanted to help the world and let it in.

@@CherryBomb_Games I dont think you're being condescending. I think there is a difference between method acting and isolation. Method actors = Daniel Day Lewis, maybe Keanu Reeves. Isolation = Ledger, Michael B and Leto (joker). The difference being, method actors still eat coffee & donuts and act as themselves during breaks. Isolationists never break character so no chit chat during coffee & donuts. Jmo but my best example is Leto. For Dallas buyers club = method. He put in his work and research before filming and acted normal during breaks. For his Joker role, Leto admitted he stayed in character and even sent his castmates "joker" style surprises during filming. There is something to be appreciated for both method and isolation acting. Let the film do the talking.

Hello everyone! I would like to address something I have gotten many comments about. Yes, my background has changed because my recording space has changed. In my previous house we had a finished basement, and I would record there, and I was able to leave my recording equipment up (four lights, camera, tripod, mic, table, background etc). When we moved to this new house, I started recording in my living room but that was very difficult. It only allowed me to record during very limited days and hours (two hours a day on Mon and Fri). when the kids were not home, and I obviously could not leave all that equipment up because it was my living room, which means it wouldn't be fair to my family to have our entire living room acting as my recording space 24/7. And, it upped the chances of something getting broken, and I don't know about you, but I can't be replacing expensive items like that. Additionally, I got complaints about reflections in my glasses, etc, because I would have to take everything down and set it back up again every time I recorded, meaning that sweet spot where I was lit properly but didn't have a reflection in my glasses was hard to find again. So, I got the booth, put it in my basement and this allows me to not only record more often during the week because it's soundproof (meaning more videos, as you have seen this month) but, I could leave my equipment up so that sweet spot was always there. It has made my life easier and more productive. Now, I do plan on adding a back drop, putting some things in the back to make it more personal and homey, but there are also challenges there. One, it took a long time to get it set up and ready to use, and I just need a little break, and I have a lot of work to do, as well as family stuff happening. Two, it's going to take time and money to plan exactly what I want to do with it. Do I want to get a green screen and change up the background? Maybe, but then I have to learn how to use a green screen, and we all know how dumb I am with technology. Maybe I'll just put a back drop, a nice lamp, some books etc, like my last recording area, but that still takes planning and funds since most of that stuff either will not fit (so I have to get smaller, scaled down versions) or is being used elsewhere in the house now. I am working on turning the booth into something that is great, but it's one of those "do you want it done fast or right" sort of situations, and I'd like to get it right. For now I am happy that the sound quality is top notch, and I have the lighting set up where you don't see reflections in my glasses, since these have been challenges in the past, and I only ask that you allow me to enjoy these small successes for a little while before I move on to the next challenge. Some of you have said you are unsubscribing specifically because of the background, I am very sorry you feel that way, because my content hasn't changed, and I think the video quality has only gotten better. I am only one person, I don't work with a team. I do my own research, writing, editing, posting, thumbnails, everything, and as much as I LOVE what I do, it takes a lot of time, leaving very little for anything else. But, if you can be patient with me for a few weeks, let me catch up and get back on track, I promise the background will be so much more cozy and Harlowe like, it's really going to be great, but sometimes finding that perfect set up takes a little time. For those of you want to unsubscribe, I can't stop you, but check back in a little while and see if it's more to your liking, and maybe you will rejoin the community. For those of you who have had my back and have been understanding, patient and awesome since the start, I really appreciate you from the bottom of my heart. You know how hard it gets to be a human sometimes, you know none of us is perfect but we are all trying our best, and you are the ones who keep me going every day, even some days where I feel a little down. Thanks for reading this book. I'll see you in the next video!

I didn't like that line because it wasn't true for him. His ancestors didn't, unless you referring to his ancestors as in the non-wakandan black people that help to raise him in America, but then It'd be him going against the whole wakondan heritage that he has been indirectly trying to get in touch with for the whole movie. It's a touching sentiment and I get what they were going for but it's just factually false, and he should know that.

Killmonger also works as a reflection of what T'Challa could have been if he hadn't undergone the arc he went through in Civil War. Erik is driven by the need to have revenge on those responsible for the death of his father- which is exactly what T'Challa's motivation was in Civil War. But while T'Challa learnt not to let veangence consume him; Erik continued to be driven by hate from childhood to adulthood.

Totally agree on one of your last points. I'm black, and African, and I see no reason why anyone has to qualify their enjoyment or love of this film by first saying "I'm not black/I don't share this culture but...". The film is fantastic; anyone can love it. The same way everyone has been loving films for the past however many years. Most of the characters in BP are relatable in a variety of ways beyond their skin color. I think that's one of the strengths of the movie--the variety in the character's personalities/bearings. So, yeah, just . . . enjoy things, everyone. :)

Definitely. It's a fictional country that I'm sure almost everyone wishes was the reality of their own nation. What saddens me about the hype for BP was only the fact that it was an almost exclusively black actors/actresses movie. My friend and I have been to every MCU and DC movie since Guardians 1 and almost never seen black people in the theaters. BP came out and it was packed. Only a hand full of white people when we seated and when we came out. Great for the box office. Infinity war? Saw two black people in the theater. And I live in South Africa. 80% black population. I might be wrong in thinking this, but I think a very large amount of black people went to watch it just for the sole reason that it is a "African" movie, and have no interest in the MCU or comic movie franchise.

Kinda surprised that you didn't point out that part of Killmonger's plan, to have Wakanda rule as the dominant nation of the world, was pretty much the exact same thing, same mistake, Europeans and Americans did during and after the Age of Discovery; the idea that his culture is superior to another's because they're technology is more advanced.

I thought it would be a win, assuming I'm even right about Killmonger's plan. Killmonger is ignoring history and his ideas are in opposition to T'Challa's, who had no interest in making Wakanda the head of a global empire. It gives us another reason to want T'Challa to succeed.

Spaced Oyster It is mentioned though, around 22:10. His outline for his retaliation/redemption is a product of where he grew up. That’s what makes him such a tragic character. He wants to be a part of Wakanda, but Ross says he’s “one of ours”. Erik may not even realize how much he is “one of ours”. Personally, that stuck with me because as an African- American there is always this longing to be apart of something traditionally African, but also an uncomfortable feeling in the back of my mind that, through different systematic processes, I’m a foreigner to that culture. I’m culturally American, and my behavior reflects this. I LOVE being American, I’m proud of it, but there’s always that subconscious question of “what if??”. I think Erik personified that feeling perfectly.

I think that's one thing I've enjoyed during the last two decades: Hollywood movies moving more and more away from the _'all-European-descended cast + one or, if we're feeling generous, two quota exotics'_ . (And yes, I'm well aware how icky it is to think of US citizens as 'exotic' in their own nation, but just look at the average actor diversity in a 90ies movie.) I know it's a (too) slow process, but at least it's happening, and Black Panther is such a mile-stone. And the way some people get all riled up about show exactly why it *needs* to happen: because you grow up with movies which are wall-to-wall 'white' men, plus the girl-friend, plus the quota minority character, then apparently too many non-pinkish faces in your entertainment constitute a deadly assault on your ego. Like, WT- ??

Here's something worth a win: near the beginning when Shuri shows T'Challa the new Black Panther "necklaces", T'Challa mentions that 'the idea is not to be noticed' and chooses the smaller, less noticeable necklace. He believes in keeping Wakanda hidden and down low. Erik, on the other hand, picks the larger, more flashy necklace that T'Challa previously turned down. He wants Wakanda to be noticed, to be in the spotlight, to rule over all people. In the final battle, these two suits represent the two ideas, these two mindsets facing off.

Stop. No one cares. And...stay with me here... IT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING. There's a reason it was called the slave "trade." You seem stuck on "forcibly taken." Guess what, from the slave's perspective, they were forcibly taken. They didn't get to their new owners and say, "You know what, it was people from my continent that sold me, so no big deal, it's not like you "stole" me. I'm not mad at you."

Okay, but every moment Shuri is on screen is a win for a multitude of reasons. Also, I absolutely adore the minute but very telling character interactions in the end credits scene: We knew from Civil War that Bucky would undergo a healing process using Wakandan technology, which Shuri is obviously the head of. Assuming this healing process would've allowed access to Bucky's memories and emotions (everything he went through), Shuri would've been right there seeing through Bucky's eyes in a way that not even Steve was quite able to. She would've greatly sympathized with Bucky and done he best to give him back control of his mind, and make the healing process as easy as possible. Shuri was shown to have a high capacity for compassion, through her support of T'challa during the challenges, her combat designs being focused mainly around protection, and her immediate takeover of Ross's spinal surgery. I love how when Bucky emerges from his hut, she greets him with, "Good morning, Sergeant Barnes." Respectfully addressing him by his military title. Keep in mind: Bucky was initially held responsible for T'chacka's murder (news which no doubt got back to Shuri before T'challa went to Siberia), and chances are, Bucky would no longer be considered honorable military personal due to his history of international terrorism and ultimate tyranny against the US. Shuri is *literal freaking royalty,* but she has so much compassion and respect for this "broken white boy" (I will never not laugh at this line) she's essentially been nursing. And the *first thing* she asks, is how he's feeling. And Bucky's responses: he seems genuinely touched and humbled. Bucky's essentially been treated with the same compassion you'd treat a machine gun with: he's been tortured, experimented on, stripped of his humanity, and basically used as an arsenal with brains and the ability to follow orders. Since his escape, he's laid low around the world, and hunted mainly by agencies for merely being Hydra's trigger finger. He's dealt with sporadic memory loss/regain, guilt, imposed self-loathing, shock, and identity crisis for years, all while evading ruthless pursuers after him for what he doesn't know he really did. So for Bucky to hear a literal princess refer to him with such gentleness and respect must be overwhelming for him, a respect he hasn't had since he was a different man in the forties. He's extremely grateful to Shuri for healing his mind, and surprised by her respect for him. So Bucky humbles himself and asks Shuri to just call him Bucky. And after this, Shuri insists on continuing to help Bucky adjust and learn, take his life back into his own hands. All in all, just a very sweet character interaction - that while I'd LOVE to see more of, it's not entirely necessary - and there's so much depth you can read into just those 45 seconds.

Freedom Fighter I LOVE this comment. That tiny clip shows the two characters stripped back to their core: Bucky, weary, broken, but he got out of bed (the fact that he didn’t attack the kids on instinct for waking him is huge), and Shuri, gentle, respectful of boundaries, she’s calm, compassionate and deeply intuitive. She allowed Bucky to come to her. It speaks of a bond that has been developed over time, it shows that Shuri has invested her time in him, and in giving his name for her to use, so casually, it’s also Bucky acknowledging his trust in her, and the respect he has for her, in spite of her age. It was also nice to see Shuri pared back, not the most charismatic person in the room - I love her in every scene she’s in, but calm and patient suits her very well, and speaks to the kind of woman she could become: Calm, brilliant and compassionate?! To draw Avengers comparisons, put Tony’s and Bruce’s brains together, add Clint’s intuition, Cap’s heart and courage and decency, and Natasha’s tenacity and brilliance, with the rich culture and heritage of Wakanda, you’ve got Shuri. I could honestly watch a mini-series of Bucky’s recovery with Shuri, Okoye (because you know the General would be distrustful, given everything, and then grudgingly respectful, then compassionate and accepting) and T’Challa, who may even look at Bucky, with his history, and be reminded of his cousin, and how awfully the world treated them.

Your talk on why Black Panther is important to cinema as a whole, even if it isn’t narratively flawless is SPOT ONNNN. I could my have said it better myself. Also the commentary on being able to relate to T’Challa!! He’s a dynamic character, he is bound to have traits people can relate to. ANY people. Same as the other heroes. So while this movie is an amazing feat for black movie-goers (because yeah, it really IS nice to have people your color represented on screen), it’s an amazing feat for pretty much all aspects of film... seriously hoping we see more amazing, enjoyable flicks like this.

Micaela Willoughby Not to mention its very rare for a movie like this to have such an international appeal. It’s not just that this is a superhero movie infused with black culture, it’s one that people ALL OVER THE WORLD wanted to see! Other Marvel movies that made as much as Black Panther were the Avengers movies and was defined by its diverse cast of heroes. But as far as solo superhero movies, Black Panther was one that was able to resonate with people not just in America, but in many countries in almost every continent. It may not be the greatest superhero movie, but it is definitely a very good one, and arguably one of the most important superhero movies to come out. Crazy how the worldwide phenomenon of Black Panther reflects the film’s themes of unity and anti-isolationism. And yes, it deserves the Best Picture nomination.

13:00 - 13:15 Can't wait for those of you who haven't seen Wakanda Forever to catch up. Winston Duke provides us with one of the most progressive character developments. He goes from traditional "stereotypical first bad guy" to comic relief to PTSD soldier over the course of Infinity War. That scene where he is one of the only ones to survive the battlefield in IW was serious acting.

My favourite part of the movie is that Wakanda is a highly advanced country that is probably decades of advanced than other countries, they still kept their culture so WELL. They combined Modern and old cultures together so fricking well. The bodyguards in normal days, use guns or tazes but in Wakanda they used spears which are less advanced to gun but very good in combat. Unlike voting to decide a leader they battle each other and they don't use like battle ships they used traditional boats, traditional clothing. This is my opinion of course, black panther is probably the best movie with the combination of modern and tradition Edit: I also realised when black panther realised kinetic energy, it sound like almost he's purring. Is that just me?

Personally, I thought that this was a fantastic film. Every aspect was well executed. There was also a message that EVERYONE could relate to, regardless of skin color: people with power should use that power to help those without it. For the record, I think that the lab scene between T'Challa and Shuri should have gotten at least 10 points on its own.

You hit all the points and messages of what i think Marvel and Ryan Coogler were trying to convey with this movie. That is one of the beauties of this movie: It manages to make a lot of things accessible to viewers independent of their own heritage, and it was a vindictive sort of fun to see the one European-descended actor stuck with being the quota minority character (straight from the 90ies). The scene in the museum made me _so_ anxious, because it touches a very real subject (and for F's unholy sake, museum directors can be so blasé about it, it 🤯my brain), but at the same time I didn't want that poor nice lady killed just for working at a museum. Oh, and two decades back I had this fantasy of Angela Basset playing Cleopatra, because she has such a perfect presence for that historical person. Never happened, but at least I can watch Angela Basset / Ramonda wipe the floor with the UK & French ambassadors in the sequel (and think to myself that I was 100% right 😉)

Science supports that Jesus can save you from an endless death and take you to Heaven. SCIENCE and history supports Christianity and I can give you some links on that. ENJOY life and do what you like, but do what is right and not for your own glory or for attention. Doing this will not save you, but once you are saved, doing so guarantees that you are saved. This is how to be saved -> AllAboutGOD.com › how-to-be-sav...Web resultsHow To Be Saved - God.. Jesus loves you even though we can and most likely did horrible things. It is hope. Please tell everyone how to be saved so they have the chance of being saved. Endless death will never be better than a perfect sinless life forever in Heaven. So you know, Watching porn is not a sin under certain circumstances like if your parents care that you watch it. For more on that go here biblicalgenderroles.com/how-does-watching-porn-and-masturbating-glorify-god/ If you are an adult don’t worry about dishonoring your parents. Don’t have any kind of sex outside of marriage though which includes watching strippers in person. Swearing is not a sin but again if any thing dishonors your parents then don’t do it unless you are an adult. Getting drunk is a sin but drinking is not. Smoking is not a sin but doing it often and getting addicted is. Love everyone including yourself and love God. Treat others the way you want to be treated. When you cause someone else to sin you are guilty as well. It’s up to you to see how far it goes till it’s your fault they sinned. Just remember it’s their choice to do something and don’t tempt them to do wrong. Joking is not wrong unless you are harming the other person in some way but if it’s not that bad for them, go ahead. Taking the Lord’s name in vain is a sin but it’s up to you to decide what is taking the Lords name in vain. Some people might not believe saying “Oh my God” and not using it in its correct way is a sin. Some people believe just saying omg is not a sin. If you want to know more about common sins and stuff so you can avoid sinning tell me and I’ll tell you more. God can basically do almost anything Tell others so they have a chance at being saved and live a perfect life forever. We live in a sinful world and we all sinned so we deserve it. Do what’s right even if it means you can’t enjoy yourself. Doing what’s right is more important. Have a good life. Don’t have sex outside of marriage though.

Gipsy Danger Yeah it was weird. CG went from great to not so great, which made it stand out more because of the lack of consistency in some areas

Great Video! My favourite scene is T'Challa's second trip to the ancestral plane. Him standing up to his father, who he idolized, and all past kings and telling them what they did was wrong and that it is going to change. It gets me every time.

@blu That's my biggest problem with cinemasins. Some of their 'sins' so obviously aren't in sins at all in context of the movie, they just seem to overlook context to up the sins count.

one thing i really liked is that when Shuri was asking T'Challa which necklace he wanted he said the gold was too flashy, and to me was more arrogant and went for the silver which was more humble, whereas Killmonger choose the Gold, because he had a brash arrogant attitude when being king compared to T'Challa's more respectful calm presence

Panthers are often associated with the night. Silver is associated with the moon. The sun, and therefore gold, have no business being on a black suit.

4:31, why yes I would recognize my father in panther form. It would be the only one making dad jokes, playing guitar, and complaining that there's no tv in the ancestral plane. This is of course assuming that all the other panthers are former kings of Wakanda and my dad is just... not regal like them in the slightest. LOL

Pretty sure my dad as a panther would have fallen off the tree and then tried to act like he landed it.

My father would have fallen and started complaining that the tree was not big or strong enough to support him, and probably insult the tree itself. My stepdad would’ve fallen and stood up again haughtily pretending that it never happened and angrily denying it if you mentioned it. This is how I would recognize them.

Not gonna lie, I left that movie thinking "this was one of the best MCU films by far." I got to the realization that T'Challa and N'Jadaka were mirrors were each other but I didn't make it to the "loss of their ancestral history" link. Rather, I saw it as a juxtaposition between the parenting they received, the brutal reality of the streets of Oakland versus the "think about your nation" mentality of a king. They were both products of vastly different ways of nurturing and man, did it drive home the fact that parenting based on morals is important, especially from fathers for sons. But shoot, if I didn't leave that theater thinking "I understand where Eric was coming from and I likely would have don'e the same in his shoes and with his history."

I think there’s a win you missed. When killmonger told them to ask him what his name was, T’challa tried to wave it off and finally when his aunt asked him...he said with such pride you could see it fueling him with power and it crumbling T’challa.
