Gru knowing every minion by heart should've counted as a win. That takes a lot of commitment to know the names of hundreds of yellow creatures without using name tags.
@ShadowdaHedgie115 ай бұрын
Are you saying that you can't tell hundreds of people apart without using name tags? Gru's been around them since he was a child, he can probably tell the difference. It's kinda like how if you go to someone's house and they have two cats, you might not be able to tell them apart, but they can.

Like any good arc, Gru's character growth feels appropriate because he shows how he can still care about people despite being a villain. Look at the coffee scene; his action of tipping the barista was unnecessary, but it shows that he has empathy, even in small doses. This makes it easier to sell his character growth when the girls bond later on.

the thing that makes this movie really sweet is the growing relationship between gru and the girls, especially margo. edith and agnes adapt to their situation relatively quickly, but as the oldest, it takes margo more time to trust gru and accept him as her father. it’s cute how gru and margo both bring each other’s walls down and they all become a real family by the end. i feel like the other movies kinda lack the heart that this one has.

I love the fact that the greatest accomplishment Gru's mother was proud of was his parenting. Nothing related to villainy. That speaks deep to the continuity in DM3. Gru was always borderline between good and evil, but it was being a parent that got him off the fence. Also, something else that happens in the DM2. So, the neat thing about this movie is that.... everyone is kind of awful. Well, not QUITE everyone, but Mostly everyone. The orphanage lady is evil, the banker is evil, the guy at the fair is evil, the guy letting his dog crap on other peoples' yards? Evil. Evil evil evil. And then there's Gru, who, at the core of it? Just kinda wants to be left alone. Even Doctor Whatshisface is a dick. Gru's whole deal in this movie is that really, at the core of it, the evil thing is just a job, he'd much rather just live his own life without having to interact with neighbors or..... anyone.... And at the core of it, he's not even really Evil at all. Seriously, the dude tips, he's polite to servers, he's funny with the kids, if a little crass at first, he cares about his henchmen, and when push comes to shove, he basically turns into the good man gone to war just to get his adopted kids back. Is he a bit of a dick with the oversized carbon belching car? A bit, but I question if that was entirely HIS decision, or if it was being made for him by social expectations.

Despicable Me is my go-to feel good film, because it is a very, very sweet film. You have to have the coldest of cold, dead hearts to not smile at how the girls warm up to Gru and vice-versa. Agnes is literally the most adorable thing ever put on screen, Edith is the child that impresses and horrifies with how unafraid of anything she is and Margo has a very sharp mind. I'm not a fan of the later films as each one had to be bigger and bigger each time, when the feels (for me at least) is the very simple father/(adopted) children relationship that kind of got lost a bit. Megamind (a film I also love) is a very different film, and so never one I've thought to compare this to.

At the end it’s smiling, when they nearly have her confess to the family he looks absolutely livid, but in an old man kind of way, his eyebrow is raised when Ransom arrives- all around just one of my favourite tiny details that adds a spectral element to an otherwise fairly reality-based movie.

There's a detail with Margo's shirt that becomes really important with the second movie. In this one we can see the drawing of the shirt is all ruined, meanwhile in the second one the drawing is all nice and pretty. I think is a neat detail.
