The way he takes the slight pause and then his voice cracks makes that scene even better. You can see how John's cold barrier is actually worn away for a second and his true rage peeks out. He asks the bouncer how much weight he lost and according to Nash at a convention, he says he lost 60 pounds, but the director told Nash, that when he said that, he was actually telling Wick how many people were in the club and that is why John Wick spared him.

You left out one of the most impactful scenes that illustrates just how dangerous and effective John wick really is. When Viggos son is killed, he gets a phone call. The audience knows that the call is to inform viggo that his son was slain, but Viggo doesn't need the call, he already knows because it's John fucking wick. Without hearing the caller say anything, Viggo tells the other person "I'll make the arrangements." John wick is so effective that this man knew his son was dead before it was even confirmed.

One detail I liked about this movie - and that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned in the video - is just how well Viggo knows John. Iosef and antagonists in the sequels all express complete shock and surprise at the lengths John will go to just to avenge a dog. Viggo isn't remotely surprised, and in fact (and this part you did mention) he knew exactly how this was going to play out the moment he heard what Iosef did. A little detail in his conversation with Iosef reveals why. He points out something that none of the other antagonists did about Daisy's death; that it happened a few days after John's wife died. John's rampage was never about the stolen Mustang or dead dog, and Viggo knew that before the rampage even started.

What makes Keanu so perfect imho is how perfeclty his quiet understated demeanor fits the character of John Wick. He does not quip or drop one liners. He doesnt do silly things to be flashy, he does not go out of his way to be a masculine power fantasy. He uses extreme brutality, but does so in a dignified, stoic, elegant fashion. Its rough, but beautiful. "Sad Keanu" with his subtle expressions and timeless looks is a fantastic fit. The fact that he was also willing and proved capable to do all the required action is of course the second half to this masterpiece.

Besides, with all the damage John has done to his mafia empire (burning all his money and blackmail material, and killing SO MANY of his men), even if he did survive the whole thing, he's not returning to his past life. He's too smart to not know that a mafia leader with no money, no bargaining chips, and no goons is basically a dead man walking. Since he's fucked anyway, might as well drag a few more people down to hell with him.

It's believable. He's in grief over losing his son (in that scene with Marcus he blames him for that death) and does it despite knowing it would turn Wick's wrath back on him. He then hopes the woman whose name I forget will keep him busy enough to escape, but the Continental steps in to execute her and let slip to Wick where Viggo was running to.

Coming back here after watching Chapter 4 First of all, Rest in Power Lance Reddick. My Commander in Destiny, and the Concierge here in the Wick Cinematic Universe Second, John really shows the difference between Friends and Goons. Throughout the series, John and his Friends are always throwing wrenches into the faces of goons and their bosses. Marcus in 1, not as much in 2, Sofia, Winston, and Charon in 3, and his friends in 4. Also John may lose some fights, but he still he keeps going. Truly a force of sheer *fuckin’* will. Also also that his “you can die screaming along side him” speech is still the most he’s spoken in this entire series

After losing his wife he probably knew that those same people will go through what he did and wanted the guy to just go home and leave like he did to enjoy that side of his life more. The shot in John's house where the guy is on the other side of the wall is one of my favorites, it shows his experience and in a way, that this movie is more than the average action movies. Also the shot at 8:23 - even as the enemy proves little to no challenge and can easily shoot him, there is no cool one-handed, not even looking shot of any sort. It's professional, controlled two-hand grip on the pistol. Scenes like these really show what made Wick as infamously good at his job. I don’t quite remember which one of the two it is, but that’s just the amazing attention to detail this movie puts in.

Count the number of rounds in each gun, if you're a gun nut and you know mag sizes and everything else you'll notice they usually use the correct amount of bullets before reloading Olschool military training taught to put two bullets in the chest and 1 in the head to be sure they stay dead. There's a part of me that thinks John's dad was in the military and trained his son how to kill people in case it "came in handy"

If you have watched John Wick 2, that is a point there as well. At the museum scene, John Wick's gun has 7 bullets. He fires exactly 7 shots before grabbing a gun from a corpse. And that repeats, he doesn't have his own weapons he is bringing, he has to "eat what he kills" as it were. And I think that the realistic action scenes, and the ammo counting compared to the "John Woo specials" is what sets Wick both 1 and 2, and 3 next month, apart from other action movies.
