The fact that they used a real-world news story for the villain’s motivation because it was so unbelievably evil that it somehow perfectly fit into a Bond movie is both hilarious and terrifying.

Casino Royale was so good, I can understand why some people thought this one was a bit of a letdown. But I liked it. people see quantum as an individual bond movie and don't see it as a continuation of casino royale and it took more of the story from the book and the title. Bond is in pain and wants revenge but does all the things he does bring him to his quantum of "solace" solace= comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness. and well after Vesper's death, you can see why people rate it as a bad bond movie it doesn't conform to the bond aesthetic because it's a revenge story, not a bond movie.

@Real_MisterSir
@Real_MisterSir 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Le Chifre was cold and calculated for the most part - while also being in between two nails so to speak. Contrary, Green is just psychotic and gives little credit to his own existence, thus he is difficult to pressure because he doesn't have any comfort zone to begin with. He's always in a grey area where you don't really know what to expect from him. A slimey guy who can slither between higher powers and work situations to his benefit. Much more akin to real-life behind the curtain "villains".

I think it is more about uncanny valley then anything else. Especially if we are talking about some really damn good English. Because the pronunciation is good enough, you can't really pinpoint where the guy is coming from more precisely than general ethnicity. Which, congratulations, doesn't help at all because we are talking about regions one third of the Europe in size. And then, no matter how good it gets, you can never truly get rid off some odd speech quirks that you bring from your own language. Like, yes, the word is correct, but what an odd choice! Or if in the middle of the perfect speech there is some word that clearly is "the next best thing", because, for example there is some issue with back-translating or simply not enough granularity to convey meaning. For example, in Slavic languages we don't differentiate between the crimes very much. To us "killing" and "assasination" are the same word. Just like "burglary" and "theft". And these are not the words you use in your every day speech, so it is easy to forget what exactly each of them means and use them incorrectly. Which, by the way is a sin, that writers don't use it more often. It is either for a very comedic effect or the accent itself is so over the top that comrades all over the world feel shame for it. Like, come on. If you want your character having an accent, at least bother to research it and think about it.

I've always enjoyed QoS, I never understood why it go so much hatred. It's got some stunning shots (one of which had a photo taken behind the scenes that eventually became the cover art for the video game 007: Blood Stone), the most grounded plot of the franchise, and the *second* best Bond girl behind Vesper (if you can really even call either of them that, so much so that I completely forgot they even kissed in this movie and I've seen it half a dozen times). I understand that Quantum as an organization only exists because EON didn't own the rights to Spectre until 2012, but I like it as an idea and it ending up as just an arm of the larger Spectre was a good move, but poorly executed. I would have liked to see Bond spend a few films going after the other seven before tackling the head, but I also understand that that would have extended far beyond the usual Bond actor's tenure.

I was disappointed that Quantum was an arm of SPECTRE and not the other way around. If I could control the situation I would have had In CraigBond 3: SPECTRE becomes part of the CraigBond universe because it is needed by Quantum. Now that Quantum is more out in the open they would need a SPECTRE. division. In CraigBond 4: SPECTRE takes over Quantum from the inside. You could have introduced Blofeld in 3 and even in 4 Bond unknowingly helps Blofeld take down Quantum In Cragibond 5: You get a less cringy background for the personal conflict between Bond and Blofeld because Bond realized he was used by Blofeld.

@@needamuffin If you have just finished (like within weeks) one of the most gruelling experiences of your life, and some jackass journalist is asking how keen you are to put yourself through that experience again right away... I don't think an over the top flippant comment is an unreasonable reaction. It would be like asking a boxer who is standing there with three broken bones and a shattered face how eager he is to go into a another fight right away. The fact he has since come back and done another two movies as that character since saying the comment also proves he wasn't done with the character. People see acting as this easy thing. you just stand in front of a camera do a thing and if it's good your done, if not do it again. But like any job it is intense and emotional and draining. Actors also hate being shoehorned into only a single role, so being asked to keep doing more of the same over and over and over is going to grate on the nerves too.

9:16 Giancarlo Giannini is always a win (awesome actor and Voice actor too) Also, from an Italian, the exchange between him and her wife in Italian sounds different because Mathis ask his wife why she offers Bond wine (in Italian Mathis doesn't say fine, but is implied), but she didn't replied "you buy only cheap wine" but "It's just cheap wine", so in Italian is actually the wife that is serving intentionally two-buck Chuck to Bond. @CinemaWins in English subtitles they make Mathis look stingy for no reason

I like your idea as to why they picked Tosca as the opera... in truth it was just the opera that the Bregenz festival happened to be playing that season. Initially the production had hoped they could put up an old set that featured a huge skeleton looking down at the stage, but that was already disassembled, so the giant eye also did the job quite well.

It is a combined production of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. and the music composed by John Williams. One of the most underrated movies that excist 2: Grimm. This is not a movie but a series. Six seasons and it's fantastic. It's cgi looks like it could've been created today. I just love that they filmed at the actual set of Tosca in Bregenz, Austria. A week later or so Tosca was then open for the public. The actors of Tosca in the movie were the actual Tosca actors of that year's theater, which is normally held every year (Bregenzer Seefestspiele). Oh, the stage is always in water.

THANK YOU for getting back to the Bond franchise! I found your channel because of "Casino Royale" and have loved the channel. Also, I actually really like this movie and felt it was needed after "Casino Royale" and as always I enjoyed your take on it. My least favorite Bond movie is "Diamonds Are Forever" because it ruined the devastating ending to "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" plus it was just ridiculous. "Quantum of Solace" shows Bond really becoming Bond and I this it's GREAT!

I've always really liked Quantum of Solace. I liked that it tied up Casino Royale's story threads, I loved the imperfect Bond; Daniel Craig has just enough of the polished wit and swagger to be recognisable as Bond, but still makes mistakes and it was here that for me that the theory that Bond/007 is just an eternal code name and it's a different person who gets given that title became film canon. And most of all, I liked that it wasn't "evil guy doing evil things because evil", it was a shady company trying to shamelessly control everything and doing anything to make it happen. It felt real (Even though I didn't know it was based off real events), and that's great. I think the best spy movies are the ones that could actually happen in real life and just be so secretive that we just don't hear about it and this film fits that perfectly for me. I treat Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace as full part 1 & 2 and always watch both together and I'm never disappointed.

I think the thoughts about the final fight with Greene were pretty much the exact way it was approached when they were filming it. It may have been on the commentary or something but I definitely remember hearing that the idea was Greene wouldn't have been experienced in combat like most villains/henchmen so would just lash out wildly which would throw bond off due to being used to fighting against a knowledgeable opponent
