Great vlog Misty! You always keep it real! You got that Asian discrimination. Being Japanese, my daughter and I get that occasionally when we have Chinese food. I’d starve if I went to Korea lol! Don’t eat seafood except that lobster looked delicious. Thank you for taking us along with your Mom! Sue

The next time we go to Korea, we want to spend more time in Myeongdong trying street food and we also want to visit Jeju Island. One thing that I thought was neat was that all the coffee shops serve drinks in glasses and cups and the food is on plates. The best kalbi tang I've ever had (which isn't many) is at Millions on Sheridan.
@FoodFiend

We were supposed to go to Jeju Island but a lot of walking to see the sites so my mom said no since she has really bad asthma. One day I'll try to go there. I'd love to see the old ladies dive for abalone.

Wow! That was a non-stop food adventure for sure. You must have been exhausted from eating all that delicious food. I've never had that jajangmyeon dish, although everyone else seems to love it. Glad to hear I may not be missing much. It looked like so much fun!

It wasn't too bad as this was a week's worth of breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks. It was exhausting getting through the lost of places. Especially finding breakfast. It's like Japan where things open late. Almost 9am and we are early birds and want to eat breakfast. So the 24 hour restaurant options help. You may like jajangmyeong. Maybe I'm just weird and don't like it. 🤣

That was awesome Misty! I hope your Umma had a great time. Those street foods are right up there in my comfort zone along with the KFC and mandoo kuksoo. Sorry for the bad experience with the barbecue restaurant and cab driver. Even the street vendors seemed a lot nicer.

Yes, the attitudes of unfriendliness were what we saw the other 2 times we went. My mother is from Seoul, but left in 1973 when it was a smaller town with no skyscrapers and they were still a poor country. The biggest buildings were about 5 stories tall but most were 3 story walk ups. It has gotten better with an exception of a few. I think the younger generation are more helpful. Also, a lot of the street vendors, our taxi driver back to the airport (who drove much better) and some cashiers at the stores were Chinese immigrants. They are much more friendlier. The food was great though! Umma had a great time, but it was too much walking for her. LOL.

I loved the crunchiness of the tornado potato stick and the yummy looking icecream. (Wouldn't Aiden have loved to eat it?). Koreans do fried chicken really well. I love it the most along with all the banchans. I tried the black bean noodles once, and it was my last--not my thing either. Love hottoek. What a gastronomical feast from street foods alone. Nice to see your Mom.

Misty! Looks like mom and you had some awesome Korean food! I hope to go to Korea next year, did you folks go on your own? I don’t care to be tied to tours and would like to go on our own… oh, btw, I hate rudeness, you’re pretty cool, I would have lost it!!! Have a good weekend!!!
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 8 сағат бұрын
@davyf7620 HI Dave! Yes we did everything on our own. I always research and hate tours. This was my mom's early bday present. First class flight and all. Yeah I really didn't like the waitress and the owner. Super rude. Basically told us if we didn't finish that nasty fish she wouldn't set up the grill for the abalone etc. after complaining she changed but too late. Then I told the owner and she told me to tell the waitress my thoughts myself. So basically she's not going to fix her worker's attitude towards tourists. She was different to the locals 🤷🏻‍♀️ but we experienced that the last 2 times we went.

I kinda had the impression that all they want is the money… that’s BS and to me, even if the food isn’t as good, as long as the service is good and the folks are nice is the most important, right! Wow! First class flight! I’d be too spoiled if I flew first class all the time! 😄 I’m headed to Japan after Xmas, at least I’ll have Starlink WiFi on Hawaiian during the long flight! 🤣

Right, i'd be a whale with jackson chameleon eyes with sooo much food all around me! The colors and textures are phenomenal, i can't imagine the sensory explosion with the tastes and smells. I'm sure your mom enjoyed getting to eat all she wanted too, roasted chestnuts are yummy. Lame for the bait and scam place, one of the sucky parts about touristy places 👎. Some items i had only seen or heard of but you give really great descriptions so i learned some things. That real charcoal kalbi though! I'd hit the ground running with that especially if that aroma is wafting everywhere. Great foodie vlog 🤤🤤 🤩🤩!!

@ripleylv426. Mahalo Ripley! I felt like a whale, but there's lots of walking just like Japan so I didn't gain any weight. 🤣 I think my mom enjoyed the food. The kim chi surprisingly she did not eat much of since it was super fermented. The whole subway smelled of farts, but its the smell of fermented cabbage. 🤮 That is what I will definitely miss - the charcoaled kalbi and steak! 🤤

@@FoodFiend That is interesting. I have had many korean GF's in the past and several korean friends and coworkers I had been close friends with. How can you afford trips to South Korea and other places? How rich are you?
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 7 сағат бұрын
If you watch a Travel Tip video I did years ago I explained how I do it. You want to do something you want? Work hard play hard. I have a job but also do side jobs for yard work which is back breaking, recycle cans...I will spend money on trips and food because that's what I like. Just like anyone else that has a hobby that will spend on whatever it is. I am cheap with other things. I never eat out for lunch at work. I make one pot meals for dinner and eat the leftovers for 2 or 3 days. I only buy food at a restaurant or plate lunch once a week for the videos, I drive an older car that is paid off and don't have any desire to buy a new car unless it dies, I live in a modest apartment, keep my electric bill to $120 a month max and don't buy unnecessary "things." So yeah, I'm not rich. You set your goals and do it. I also pick cheaper places where the US dollar goes a long way. And if it is the US I used my Disney points to pay for everything at Disneyland or book cruises where I can pay 2 years in advance with no interest a month at my own leisure. So if you want to do something you can do it with sacrifice. Not because you're rich...
