I read In the Distance a few years ago because of your recommendation and it's still a book I think about FREQUENTLY. It's a very special book I never would have found without your channel!!

Long time lurker here but seen a few other comments. I’m so here for non-algorithm conforming creators - people who upload when they can and make videos the community they’ve build. We do not “own” creators time, and we forget creators often have multiple jobs, commitments and obligations that your 20-year-old-3-times-a-week-uploader may not have. also I am so glad you mentioned Employees, it’s such a hidden gem that I don’t see a lot of people talking about!

There is such a strange and concerning sense of entitlement in some of these comments! I think you are still very active on KZbin and I completely understand evolving your brand and platforms. We are not entitled to your labour but I am still very grateful that you post on KZbin as I am a long time fan and love to watch you. ❤️

Jessie, as someone who has been watching KZbin for probably as long as you’ve been on it, I really enjoy a slower pace, both in terms of output and feel - and your videos really provide that. A lot of other content feels like content for content’s sake, especially on book tube. It’s lovely to tune into someone who knows what they’re talking about, has a history of considered literary criticism, and doesn’t feel the need to churn out several average book videos a week. Love your work 💛

Hi jess! I literally never ever comment on youtube videos but I was genuinely shocked when I saw a few negative comments. Wow people are way too serious on youtube nowadays !! I adore this channel, it's always been such a comfort channel for me and clearly for many others. Just thought I'd put my two cents out there to break up some of the crazies in the comment section. We love your videos and the considered pace at which you produce them. You offer such a unique take on book tube that is hard to find on this platform.

I used to love Jess' videos and anticipate when she would upload next, but I've grown tired. Genuinely. What other commitments does she have? Yes, I know being a parent is time consuming, but she has a long term partner who helps, a nanny, and a mum who is financially supportive. You have to give up the narrative of her being “busy” when she works from home, uploads once a month (if we’re lucky), hardly posts content on her IG or patreon, and not to mention a house renovation that has no end in sight and is taking literal years. If you even go on her tiktok, her “spend a day with me” consists of taking care of Ines, reading, and going to a coffee shop. There are plenty of other KZbinrs who are also parents (not family vloggers), are active on their platforms, and upload videos frequently. And no, her posting videos on KZbin is not “free” when she makes money off her audience and a majority of her videos are ads or sponsored. She's bad at managing her time and is clearly getting tired of being an "influencer", but can't really stop now since this is a source of income. Stop putting her on such a pedestal.

I really love your videos Jess but I do have to say sometimes as a KZbin subscriber I feel neglected compared to your patreon members who clearly are getting lots more content and attention, whereas on KZbin we wait months for a video and they come sparingly. I understand the patreon members are paying but I feel like your content here is so irregular! Just wanted to say for future but do still enjoy your content
@pagecount09 ай бұрын
I agree though I see why Jess doesn't post more often: her Patreon has over a 1000 members even though her delivery on the promised perks is almost as irregular as her youtube content. I left the Patreon after not getting a single live q&a or exclusive video for months.

this comment made me think more deeply on the state of content creation tbh, this isnt necessarily directed to you but i hope you dint mind that you gave me a chance to kind of speak my thoughts lol. as someone who's been watching jess for 6+ years i think she hasnt been one to capitalize on the quick production format of youtube algorithms and after she became a mom that became (understandably) even more the case. her dedicating the majority of her time to paid patreon members just seems logical to me in the economy of a parent's finite time/energy. youtube pays primarily thru sponsorships on upload schedules like this, meanwhile patreon is a monthly subscription service, which just seems more sustainable. i think youtube rewards frequent posting + playing the game of the algorithm, but this doesnt always coincide with the community building goals she seems to prioritize- patreon seems more suited for that. but ofc she cant (& probably doesnt want to) completely abandon yt either, so this seems like the most realistic + beneficial compromise. i'm not currently in her patreon so i get wanting more as a yt subscriber as well, but i think shes probably making the best compromise she has available to her. obv i dont know her, but i hope shes able to redirect her time towards her kiddo + family bc thats what rly matters at the end of it all. i think we as viewers should also consider reevaluating what we are "owed" from creators too

What I've more so noticed on this channel over the years is the complete lack of interaction or engagement with her followers, to the point where it feels strange. Even on videos where there were discussions about books. People would consistently leave well thought out comments or discussion points, or sometimes questions, and there was NEVER any response. Not even so much as a 'like' from Jess. I dont follow Jess on any other platforms so I don't know about her engagement on those, but I started to wonder why people were so loyal to her and kept engaging with her channel by commenting when it looked like she literally was never bothered to acknowledge them. I'm not expecting her to engage with every comment, but for YEARS I saw no responses at all in almost every video.

I think some people need to rethink what they spend their time doing. I don't believe anyone knows what's going on in Jess' life outside of what we know from her content, so why would you feel entitled to call her out on her consistency? As a long-time subscriber I am always delighted to see a new video pop up, and curious what's it about. There's plenty of past videos on this channel, so if you're craving more, go re-watch your favourites or maybe you'll discover ones you haven't seen yet. Or just please, go read a book.

Hey! This AD is not undeclared. It is in the top line of the description and I specifically declare it a sponsorship when I introduce Skillshare. This is a long-form integration, and therefore the whole of the content does not need to be labelled as in in the title. I always follow ASA guidelines. Just wanted to clear that up as I think people are getting confused lately!

For the sparrow: I think you are reading into the quote uncharitably. Referring to Columbus is another way of saying when Europeans first had significant contact with the new world. She is clearly interested in the Jesuit contact since she made the characters jesuits. The Jesuits were not perfect in the new world but to not there to colonize. They had deeply held beliefs, one can disagree with them, but they were motivated by converting people (in other words something you would do if you really believed in your religion and recognized the natives as full people). I think to just generalize and say their contact with the new world is colonizing is potentially even disrespectful to the many native people who are Catholics
