Everything is good now that we have broken the trail to the cabin and have a fire going. I explain why the Snowdog would not have worked in our cabin approach.

Martin and the cabin is like a marriage, for better or worse, till death do us part. Even when it can be so hard, he sucks it up and takes it in stride. When you love something (or someone) so much, nothing seems as bad as it is! Good to see you and Jim are rested, eating well (as are the birds) and back to making memories. 👍🐦

I spend all my time at my place now. I like the change of seasons. I hunt, trap, fish and ice fish right out my door. I can go a month in winter before somebody wanders in for a cup of coffee, conversation, or they might stay a night or 2. The summer people always are coming to my place for firewood, which I sell them. Sometimes I work on one or 2 of their places. I am glad I retired here. I don’t need much and don’t ask for anything I can’t get myself. Life is good. Thanks for sharing Martin. Always a pleasure. PeaceY

Hi Martin, loving the snowy videos : ) Would it be possible to make a front skid/fairing out of half a wheel barrow or whatever is around to put on the front of the snow dog. This may compress the snow a bit as it moves forward and allow the tracs to get a grip. A possible project for you to tinker with. Best wishes from England

Snowmobiles would go in that snow. In general terms there's 2 types of Snowmobiles; trail sleds and powders sleds. All of the major manufacturers makes several models of each. You need a wide track for commuting back and forth. A wide track will float on that snow.

Grew up at the cottage on Bird lake in south Nopiming. Belonged to the local snowmobile club and the odd year we had snow like that the only sled that would break trail for everyone else was a skidoo tundra 250 and later a newer model 270. They are obviously lightweight but the real key is they were single bangers and just did not have the power to spin the track. Spinning the track is the killer in deep snow. Never ever got stuck in snow, slush on a lake yes. :) These were the 121" tracks too, the long tracks I'm sure would be even better. A bravo 250 if you can find it would also be good. Both the Tundra and Bravo had the rack on the back to hold a 5 gal jerry can. We used a milk crate to hold essentials. Next big snow year ask someone you know in the area that snowmobiles to break the trail down with a sled. Once the snow has the air taken out of it it hardens overnight and is wide enough to give you a nice easy path to walk on and use the snowdog. We're not getting any younger. lol

Thanks for the info. I will be using it when I do a full review on the deep snow and a snowdog in a few weeks.

@@TheNorthwoodsman1 Thank you Martin. Watching your canoe video's takes me back to my youth. I remember traveling up the Bird river to the north end of Eagle lake and fishing at the mouth of the Talon river just touching WCPP before it was a park. I prefer to head East from Bird into Snowshoe and Chase or south of that into Wilson, Trapline, Werner and Rex. Crown land so no need for the $15 and you see no one other than a few fly in camps. Always fun to see your fellow countryman in some shock and ask me where I came from, " oh the highway is just over there " I would say. After paying good money to get there I'm sure they got a chuckle asking the lodge owners about the highway. :)
