Hey i am a certified Hyundai service advisor and these engines are prone to engine failure. I would not advise to remove the head since it isn't necessary. 99% of the failure on these engine are rod bearings. I would first drain the oil and remove the oil pan and Boom! you will encounter excessive play in one of the rows. Hopefully this is helpful since i deal with these cars and techs on a daily. Good luck !

It was essentially the same person that previously owned this veloster. Except she had a kid, so you can imagine how sticky the back seat area was. I don't know if anyone else mentioned this yet or if you already know, (too many comments to read all) but there is a effective way to easily & cheaply repair the hundreds of hail dimple dents you have, but it is scary to some people though. It involves a Oxy-acetylene torch, a old washcloth or small bathtowel and a bucket of cold water. If you never did it before, I suggest getting a scrap panel & using the round end of a small ballpeen hammer to make some dimple dents of your own in your practice panel, then basically set up the torch with a long orange flame (not a short blue flame like your gonna cut metal) adjust it until the black soot swirlys go away, & then heat the metal around the dimple for a few seconds, then using the washcloth soaked in cold water, apply the cold washcloth directly over the dimple dent as soon as you pull the torch away. Practice first so you know how long you can hold the torch near the paint before it starts to blister. If done correctly, as soon as you apply the cold washcloth to the hot metal, you will hear the metal "POP" back to its pre hail damage position. Easy peasy! There are videos out there too on you tube if you want to see someone else doing it first. I've been doing it for years with excellent results!
