He says he learned and changed a lot by observing his teammates in Team Japan - Ohtani & Yamada. It drove him to do better and work harder, seeing how much and what Ohtani does, and aimed for Triple three, seeing Yamada, 2 years his senior getting multiple triple threes. As the video says, he is constantly getting better because he is constantly searching to better himself, listening, imitating but not just doing the same thing, but adapting to fit his needs. He’s a very good learner.

The season he enters MLB, I feel sorry for all the real rookies who have to compete against him for Rookie of the Year. I hate the fact that these talented oversea stars can compete in "Rookie of the Year". Rookie my ass. They have professional experience and even faced against all star MLB in MLB vs NPB matchups. I honestly find it disgusting that they awarded Nomo, Sasaki, Suzuki, and Ohtani with Rookie of the Year awards. They even almost awarded Hideki Matsui with Rookie of the Year also. MLB needs to revise their requirements with their Rookie of the Year qualifications. These Japanese superstars that get signed millions to compete in the US are NOT ROOKIES. If MLB starts going overseas to scout out talents from Korea, Japan, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, etc, more than before, then they need to fix the qualifications of Rookie of the Year. Because it's not a fair race for real rookies who come from AAA minor leagues. Anyone who has played pro in their country should not qualify as Rookies.
@ButThatsMuhFreeduhm2 жыл бұрын
I agree, but that automatically comes with that skill"gap" between US Baseball and other countries Baseball and the MLBs mindset about these leagues. I mean if you asked these guys if they are rookies, they would say no obviously. Its a demon they have summoned themselves.

Kang had an .838 OPS in his first two years of Major League Baseball while primarily playing 3B/SS, a position where Asian league imports never really got consistent playing time at before him. He’s more like the outlier of KBO position player imports. Just had to go on and ruin his own career. Think you mixed him up with Byung-ho Park or someone?
@KTF02 жыл бұрын
There have been successful Korean hitters like Choo and Ji Man Choi. KBO is a hitters league. Japanese hitters for some reason struggle more. Even Ohtani took a minute to get going.
@THEPTRAMO2 жыл бұрын
@@KTF0 Right, but Choo and Choi (and Hee-seop Choi who had a couple of solid stints with the Marlins and the Dodgers) never played in the KBO before going stateside - they signed with an MLB team straight out of Korean high schools and were developed in the MiLB system, so I think it's fair to leave them out when we're talking about how well Asian league players have handled the transition to the MLB in their middle/late 20s-early 30s. The sample size for KBO hitter imports is even smaller than the already small sample size for NPB hitter imports, but apart from Kang there's very few KBO signings that had at least an above average offensive season - re-imported Americans like Eric Thames, or Dae-ho Lee who left the KBO to play in the NPB for a while before signing with Seattle. KBO is a hitter's league for sure, but the KBO-MLB jump is still a much more challenging one than the NPB-MLB jump for hitters. NPB imports tend to be a bit hyped up by the media so it feels like a lot of them were disappointing, but there's more than a couple of them that had some okay to decent offensive seasons outside of Ichiro/Matsui/Ohtani (Johjima, Iguchi, Aoki, Fukudome, Iwamura).
