Goofs such as that one are why I never advocate for movies to only use practical effects. There's been too much hype and campaigning for movies to return to practical effects. Ie Tom Cruise and Christopher Nolan who guzz about practical effects. I'm so glad George Lucas demonstrated good use for CG. If George Lucas made this movie he would have edited the weight so it wouldn't bend. Mistakes like it are very noticeable especially in the Blu-Ray era.

17:40 isn’t a ‘deus ex machina’. The chest burster is a ticking clock / time bomb. The character hadn’t been heroic or otherwise exemplary up until this moment in the film, so him using his death to kill a much-despised antagonist is a PAYOFF. The ticking time bomb has gone off, but instead of it ruining everything it has been subverted and it has solved a major problem for the group as well as provided a much-needed catharsis for the audience.

"They cut the power? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY CUT THE POWER?!? They're ANIMALS, man!" I will say a couple of things about that though. There were cues in the previous movies that allow us to infer that the aliens are extremely intelligent and fast learning. In Resurrection, these cues are incomplete. They learn how to use the liquid nitrogen/xenomorph icicle button by watching the scientist....but even that diminishes the alien's intelligence in the way that the scene is carried out. So, at what point did the aliens learn that they could pick out a smaller drone and let it's acid blood, that they likely don't fathom having, eat through the floor for a calculated escape? The alien queen in Aliens watched Ripley escape on the elevator. The cues, allowing us to see that the queen is learning from that moment, are all there. She even tilts her head as the other lift reaches her as if to say "hmmmmmm." Same thing goes for cutting the power. The aliens in Aliens have had months to see and learn from the colonists as they hunted them and picked them off. The cues are implied and even the soldiers mention that the aliens were testing the area to find a way in. In Resurrection, the aliens are freshly escaped. There is no way they have mapped out the area in under a few hours, especially enough to lay a membrane trap for anyone who may be passing through. The aliens should think, once they're free, that they have all the time in the universe to capture the survivors of the Aurega. They do go crazy when they see groups of humans which you could say is because they're wild animals and they're angry, but I don't even think they should have been seen trying to cut off the escape of the humans. They had no reason to fathom that the humans could escape the ship. That ship was their entire world. Even on Alien Isolation, the video game, the aliens have had months to learn these lessons. They make a huge nest, understanding that the ship is the entire world. Only after seeing a few ships coming and going, would they likely fathom that the humans are going 'somewhere else'. Then they would probably ramp up human capture and processing. Resurrection just....it takes some lazy approaches from a narrative standpoint. I'm not certain if it's because of the final stages of editing it down, which I was told a long time ago was really heinous, or if it was just lazy writing. Also, the way he says "like an alien would use an elevator", you can tell he's making a callback joke to Aliens. :p

The queen didn’t “use” the elevator in Aliens. She just got into it. We saw already that the elevators default back to the top (both were up there when Ripley got back to them after reaching Newt). So the queen just needed to get on and let the elevator do its thing.
