Bro. This is one of the biggest guilty pleasure films of all time. I love Doom. But man.... My critic brain absolutely hates how entire premise is based around how Sarge (The Rock) royally gets his entire team killed. And yes I do mean the entire team. Because as soon as Goat died in the Sewers Sarge doesn't abort the mission and just regroup back at head quarters. Or just order his team to fall back and guard the Arc instead of getting Pinky a non soldier and a cripple to guard it. As much as Portman looked like a coward and a creep in this movie. He was right the whole time. They should have called in reinforcements the second goat died because they realistically don't know what they are dealing with.

Unfortunately anyone infected who has psychopathic tendencies would go too though how do you spread the C24 to the rest of us? I am glad it was changed to this film. A super advanced humans created the means to getting instantly between planets and used genetics to change themselves. However they forgot not everyone is a good person some are not and they perverted the C24 making those monsters that spread and killed anyone not them. Ended their work on Mars and may have helped to destroy their futuristic society many thousands of years ago. They called those mutations "rakshasa" who killed and ate humans.

So you know, when duke stopped shooting the imp with his rifle during the nano wall dog scene, his weapon jammed and thats why he switched to his pistol. A second weapon jam occurred in this movie during the fps scene with reaper vs an imp. He wasnt lining a shot, his weapon jammed so he tap, racked and fired after he was able to clear the jam. Simple things like this make this movie solid compared to today shooting movies where it looks like the guns have infinite ammo and never jam. The actors trained with ex special forces to make this as tactically realistic as possible. Something that movies these days seem to lack.

This movie isn't a masterpiece in any sense, yet for some reason it's one of my quilty pleasure favorites...especially when stoned. I just love the sci-fi format of a "trained team" responding to some unkown threat or SOS, at some base/facility/planet/location, and the shenanigans that insue upon their arrival. The movie sorta nailed a lot of things right, before we get into the 3rd act. Which is primarily where it kinda devolves a bit into silliness (except for the FPS portion).
