Happy 41st anniversary, Blade Runner! To this day, the first film is my favorite film of all time. It's the standard by which I measure every other science fiction film. I think it holds up beautifully, and after 4 decades, that is an extraordinary feat. Interestingly, its sequel (which is my third favorite film of all time) was the basis for the first video in this series, so to celebrate both occasions, here are my videos on the Blade Runner films. Hope you enjoy the compilation. A wise man of true culture. Guess a thank you Blade Runner for originating a rare great movie related KZbin channel is in order. I couldn't tell you what 2059 will look like (besides that there will still be Coca-Cola billboards) but I sure hope the Birdman channel is still going strong and I can watch it on my commute to work in my self driven flying Tesla car/boat hybrid.

I love both films in the franchise. As you already know, 1982's Blade Runner is one of my FAVORITE Sci-fi films aside from 1984's The Terminator. 😉Both are exceptionally groundbreaking and are still making an impact four decades later. I respect Denis Villeneuve's vision for the sequel as well. ❤

This and 2049 are basically immune to sinning. They're fucking gorgeous, world building, acting, dialogue, soundtrack, effects. Rutger Hauer was fucking unreal and the Tears in Rain dialogue is S-tier. 2049 is incredibly underrated too

I always found it interesting that Roy Batty, a character who knows he has little time left, talks in such a slow and measured tone as opposed to a rushed one. Almost as if he even though he knows time is precious he understands that life is there to be lived, savoured, and something to take time over. a short memorable life lived is still preferable to a long life with no worthwhile memories. An interesting dichotomy.

My thinking of Wallace not using the eye drones at all times is that maybe it is a strain on him, like having them off makes it more peaceful for him which explains all the water he surrounds himself with. Water is calming to a lot of people, especially when trying to sleep.

There's more than just not being able to predict the newspaper thing behind it (and behind what I suspect are 90% of Cinema Sins "couldn't predict the future "sins") Blade Runner takes a huge chunk of its aesthetic from noir detective movies of the '30s and '40s. The "detective" reading a newspaper on the street is a stock trope from such films.

idk how anyone can sin either of these movies beyond the first one having MULTIPLE ENDINGS and cuts... some with or without deckard narrating over entire film different endings / cut scenes / extra scenes etc i still believe ALL blade runners are advanced replicants with their own personalities and a limiter on their "gained consciousness" unlike roy who was never designed to gain ANY. i felt so bad for roy and his series of replicants... they got to see amazing things out in space, and as he put it... no human could ever imagine. which is highly true. then his famous quote right before he dies after saving deckard / in process of saving him is sooo magnificent "...like tears in the rain." lastly, that other bladerunner kept leaving the folded unicorn for deckard as a sign that he knows what he is because he is also one. hinting at a potential revolution of bladerunners bonding together. which would have been and still could be a sick sequel. sadly the main deckard actor is too old now :(

I'm sorry but the idea that Deckard was a replicant is so stupid I have to side with Jeremy on it. The replicant-hunter that's a human for everyone he works with for decades is actually a replicant with a clearly defined shelf life? Okay. 2049 knows that the concept can definitely work but it's never ambiguous about whether or not K is one.

So here's my problem with the Ricard is a replicant thing His eyes clearly do the glowy thing during a conversation with Rachel in Ricard apartment. So either this was an artistic choice showing Rick empathizing with a replicant ie: Rachel or it's another clue that he is in fact a replicant. The big issue here is in 2049 He's an old man, sure he could have been made without the time limit on every other replicant, I think Rachel was too cause she gives birth to the memory editor in 2049 who is the actual person our protagonists memories are from. But that means all replicants can reproduce, not just the women but men too if Ricard is a replicant or fid that only start with nexus 7

I generally hate the “not original” argument that plagues media criticism like a STD but Jeremy using especially is easy to mock since he has various cliches that have likely at this point become “not original.” It’s so easy to mock Jeremy and his feeble “attempts” at arguments since they tend to suck. How does such an over rated butt munch like CinemaSins have millions of subscribers and so many views and defenders?
@adamusprime403

Some of Jeremy's sins are literally just hating on how story telling functions, "oh this guy crafted a little toothpick man is irrilevant" is super wrong as it sets up the ending when not only do you learn the Guy was going to let Deckard flee, but also hints at himself being a replicant, as the second folding is of a Unicorn, something we only saw with 2 other characters, characters whom are themselves replicants. Also his criticism of Deckard not hating the woman ignores how Deckard is shown to be flawed and hypocritical, and it gives a set up to lead deckard down a path of understanding.
