Fun fact: the weapon depicted at the end of the film was pre-fired in the book and used to destroy a city way larger than London, but was cut due to screentime.

The fact of how little is explained about the cities way of life and the differences between them and so on also messes up allot. Like i cant put the casualties into context. When in the movie this Shrike lad fuckin destroys Airhaven its like, oh really? Youre just gonna destroy a giant fucking flying city for this one fucking gal. My god. This seems pretty much out of proportion. Like the coolest of the cities we've had the chance of seeing gets destroyed within minutes by one fucking dude, that dies in the process, achieving nothing but a short sweet moment of him accepting the bitch Hester or whatever wont become his robot daughter. Great. Thousands of people dead. .. years... of academy training... wasted. Anyway movie fucked my mind so hard im going to university. Thats bound to be easier than understanding what the fuck the Directors had in mind when producing this movie.

@@kingchicken8232 Yeah quite true. I have quite a good amount of fantasy, and the spectacle in the Movie got me hooked, so one day i might read the books and see what the movie could have become. - i mean it really didnt look bad, and if properlly done, fantasy makes you believe shit thats more unrealistic than citys on tracks so uh... maybe some producer will pick it up again in 10-20 years when CGI reaches its absolute peak and itll be easier to make movies pretty much just consisting of CGI and with a smaller budget. @@hydrophobicspider Inert means non-reactive, but they can still be flammable. Depending on what your definition of inert gases is, it could mean the noble gases, or any other relatively inert gases, such as the asphyxiant gases. You may have thought of noble gases, as they were known as the inert gases in the past. However, butane and propane are examples of flammable axphyxiant gases, which again, are relatively inert. Anyways, in this case, using the term Noble Gas for Helium would be more correct.

"poison and dysentery will kill you before thirst" No they won't. Like, that's patently false. It's actually advised that in a survival situation you drink whatever water you can get your hands on so that you survive long enough to get rescued and treated for whatever may have been in the water. Granted, you should of course try to treat the water in whatever way you can before hand, but dehydration will kill you far faster than anything living in the water.

@entidade1000
@entidade1000 4 жыл бұрын
Dysentery symptoms include loss of blood and water through diarrhea and lasts for a week, not to mention the constant abdominal pain and fever, which will render you unable to even think straight. This is besides the fact that even cristal clear water can have contaminants in it that will actually cause more dehydration, so you're better off not drinking it even if your intention is to survive just for the next day or two. The average person can survive for 3 days without ingesting any water. That's long enough for you to find a reliable source of clean water or at least come up with a treatment system for the orange water you've squeezed out of a handful of dirt. I'll rather go looking for clean water, though, thanks.
@chaosandbunnies8291
@chaosandbunnies8291 4 жыл бұрын
 Marcos Gomes My original comment was in the context of "dirty water vs no water" There are a variety of reasons that you could be unable to adequately treat the water you find. In such a case, the 1-3 days it takes for dysentery's symptoms to appear in addition to the several days it takes those symptoms to kill you would significantly increase the chance of you getting rescued. Given such a scenario, letting yourself die of thirst several days prior out of fear of what may have been in the water should not be the preferred choice. And on the note of clean water, I did originally say that your should treat any water that you find. Obviously that's the far better alternative, but this is a survival situation and the environment your find yourself in has a far larger bearing on what you're able to do than most people give it credit for. It's possible that one of the go to methods of purification takes too long to make up for what you lose while waiting for it or you just don't have the materials on hand to make it work. It's also possible that by the time you find a dirty source of water, you've already been hiking around for days and are severely dehydrated. In the ideal situation, you'd never even have to consider drinking unfiltered or poorly treated water, but reality is harsh and unpredictable and it rarely gives you the tools you need.

The irony is that in the book, Evadne Twix was a sort of scientific Professor Umbridge - cheery and cutesy, and disturbingly so when referring to Stalkers as "her babies". In the movie, she was kind of old and grouchy. Also, she had hair. It's like they never even read the book...

@@pyerack Mine is that everybody read and loved the book, except the writers, who read the back cover. There's some references in the movie - like Nimrod Pennyroyal or the Scriven - that come from other books, implying some knowledge of the series. But then the story is still garbage.

I think we all need to agree on something here: the movie was shit. There are a LOT of major differences that made the movie a whole lot worse. However, the main quartet (Mortal Engines, Predators Gold, Infernal Devices and A Darkling Plain) is definitely a marvellous masterpiece and Phillip Reeve is an excellent writer. thank u my work here is done

Haven't read the books, but from the movie it looks like there is an interesting lore behind it. While I was watching it I felt it was all too shoehorned and given too much information in a short amount of time. This should have probably been 3 movies, not one. I might grab the books to be honest.

Sam Anne I agree. How the books are written, these new terms are thrown at you but are explained later through context and this doesn’t translate well to a movie. The books were also not very well known outside of the UK which didn’t help.

@Sam Anne - I don't think the point was reading the book to understand the movie. I think it was that the book is better so read that instead of watching the movie, and that the movie should have more closely followed the book.

@@MustardK1ng It's less that the movie itself was bad (I mean, it wasn't great, but there are far worse movies), and more that after the unique, bizarre, spectacular thrill ride that was the book, the movie was just kind of aping Star Wars. I maintain that the filmmakers took the characters from the books, who were so interesting because they broke established cliches, and forced them to fit into those same cliches. It was heartbreaking.
