@@hydrophobicspider Inert means non-reactive, but they can still be flammable. Depending on what your definition of inert gases is, it could mean the noble gases, or any other relatively inert gases, such as the asphyxiant gases. You may have thought of noble gases, as they were known as the inert gases in the past. However, butane and propane are examples of flammable axphyxiant gases, which again, are relatively inert. "poison and dysentery will kill you before thirst" No they won't. Like, that's patently false. It's actually advised that in a survival situation you drink whatever water you can get your hands on so that you survive long enough to get rescued and treated for whatever may have been in the water. Granted, you should of course try to treat the water in whatever way you can before hand, but dehydration will kill you far faster than anything living in the water.
@Vasious81284 жыл бұрын
Given that they are on the run for their lives and there will be no rescue or medical teams coming to help them, that should factor in the characters decisions.
@entidade10004 жыл бұрын
Dysentery symptoms include loss of blood and water through diarrhea and lasts for a week, not to mention the constant abdominal pain and fever, which will render you unable to even think straight. This is besides the fact that even cristal clear water can have contaminants in it that will actually cause more dehydration, so you're better off not drinking it even if your intention is to survive just for the next day or two. The average person can survive for 3 days without ingesting any water. That's long enough for you to find a reliable source of clean water or at least come up with a treatment system for the orange water you've squeezed out of a handful of dirt. I'll rather go looking for clean water, though, thanks.
@chaosandbunnies82914 жыл бұрын
Marcos Gomes My original comment was in the context of "dirty water vs no water" There are a variety of reasons that you could be unable to adequately treat the water you find. In such a case, the 1-3 days it takes for dysentery's symptoms to appear in addition to the several days it takes those symptoms to kill you would significantly increase the chance of you getting rescued. Given such a scenario, letting yourself die of thirst several days prior out of fear of what may have been in the water should not be the preferred choice. And on the note of clean water, I did originally say that your should treat any water that you find. Obviously that's the far better alternative, but this is a survival situation and the environment your find yourself in has a far larger bearing on what you're able to do than most people give it credit for. It's possible that one of the go to methods of purification takes too long to make up for what you lose while waiting for it or you just don't have the materials on hand to make it work. It's also possible that by the time you find a dirty source of water, you've already been hiking around for days and are severely dehydrated. In the ideal situation, you'd never even have to consider drinking unfiltered or poorly treated water, but reality is harsh and unpredictable and it rarely gives you the tools you need.
