Why are there portals? Cause it cost money/resources to travel between worlds. Why wouldn't multiple arcade cabinets spawn? They did in the book. Why could you approach the character doing the final challenge? You couldn't, entering a portal was a single-player thing. Why were there cans of soda sitting around? The saddest part is they changed the Hunt's premise. In the book you need to know 80's trivia to solve the riddles because Halliday loved the 80's. You dont get that joyous feeling of solving the riddle With the characters because the information is based on something you cannot know about in our world.

Sin 192: There's about 10 minutes of exposition at the start of the movie, half of which could be introduced later or cut out Sin 193: The way the characters talk about King Kong makes it sound like they use the same map again and again, meaning that you could memorize or even computerize the race, and yet no one has done it Sin 194: IOI drivers all use the same car, despite the fact different cars could help in trying to complete the race. Like imagine if someone brought like truck or something Sin 195: No one has done a Mission Impossible style break-in to try and get the keys. Heck, the egg itself is probably inside the code or something like that Sin 196: "Character on a motorcycle slides underneath a truck" cliche Sin 197: Cars seem to interact with each other, meaning to you could lose a perfect run because someone else, out of your control, messed up Sin 198: "Main character conveniently forgets thing they should know for the viewer's sake" cliche Sin 199: All of New York City's buildings rotate, but builds the bridge from nothing, instead of, like, taking the Brooklyn Bridge and putting it there Sin 200: Wade is kidnapped and brought to a secret base because... Sin 201: IOI has access to body armor and long guns, for no reason Sin 202: IOI doesn't decide to surround the building, despite the fact that they could clearly do so Sin 203: For some reason in the Artari puzzle, the ice breaks after one minute of play, meaning that if you had like 30 minutes, you can do the puzzle by pure trial-and-error, which is what IOI ends up doing

The "nobody thought to go fucking backwards in five years" thing was what I was thinking _the whole time._ Fun as this movie was, there's no way that "go backwards" wasn't tried in FIVE YEARS. Even if they didn't know the clue, someone would have tried it just to be silly.

One thing i absolutly HATED in this movie... that completly ruined the movie for me was one single point: Consitency of ingame vs rl movements... Sometimes you are on a treadmill... sometimes you just stand with strings attached... sometimes you can simply run through the streets. Treadmill i get... seems nice and pretty alright (even with the van crashing in) strings... uhm... where are you walking towards... how can you run in the oasis if you run? dont the cables get knoted togehter? SO MANY QUESTIONS. And the worst thing: free runaround... we see peoiple doing actions with only their visor... HOW does it transfer movement... HOW are they kept safe? WHAT ARE THE RULES GOD DAMMIT!!! Because this shit doesnt make any sense and only switches for plot convenience... I NEED A BONUS ROUND FOR EVERY INCONSISTENT USE OF REALLIFE TO INGAME MOVEMENT.

that's the main problem of the film. It needs an "afternoon" from start to finish. In the book there are month of reading and combining clues - no strange android. Also the quests were lame. Driving backwards, jumping on zombies? The book is an homage to the 80s, the film a dumbed down version of it, sadly. (with useless mentions of newer technolgies and games which breaks immersion for me, twitter, overwatch, minecraft etc)

Can I add that the Watts in the movie has been dumbed down than the Watts on the book? All characters (even the Asian kids) happen to not be fat and gross creepy adults and all happen to live close to eachother in North-America? When they showed a group of kids joining the big final battle as Ninja Turtles they were running with VR goggles ON THE street. Pokemon GO deaths all over again. When IOI employees got killed in a blast wave circle in the final battle, they just happened to also be in a circle when the VR rig lights turned red? If the first player to ever get the first key has a cheap avatar, don´t you think everyone will dress up as him? But yeah, no-one in five years has ever tried driving backwards... I remember watching a team of Halo easter egg hunters glitching 20 vehicles into the void to use them as a staircase to get to a cinematic-only room they were never supposed to go. When I first read the book, I imagined the OASIS having an animation style that’s blocky and old fashioned, kind of like a combination of Minecraft and an ‘80s 8-bit arcade game. When the trailer came out, my first reaction to their interpretation of the OASIS was “I missed the mark”

Everything wrong with this movie: It'S nOtHiNg LiKe ThE bOoK!?!? Example 1: In the book, this dude actually goes to school. AND that's where the first challenge is (also none of the challenges were accurate, although the 3rd was pretty close) Example 2: In no way, shape, or form do the main characters hunt for the keys together. Example 3: One of the Asian kids died in real life because IOI legit murdered him (Daito I think) Example 4: Daito and Shoto actually lived in Japan, Aech (H) lived in his van, Art3mis's home was in Vancouver. Example 5: Wade defeated Nolan by himself when he tricked IOI into thinking he was cheating the system so they would arrest them. Example 6: Wade was actually intelligent in the book instead of being someone who ran on hints he got from other people. Example 7: It took around 6 MONTHS for Art3mis to solve the 2nd challenge, which was AFTER IOI solved it, then Aech, and after that it took ages for Wade to solve it after he was given hints Example 8: There was no curator?? AND THERE WAS NO BUTTON to shut down the game. Example 9: Morrow (the dude with white hair at the end) was actually the person who brought all the main characters together and was basically the only reason Wade succeeded. But props to them for sticking to Aech being a black woma
@autumnleaf43805 жыл бұрын
Gabriella Andrews most of the stuff was true (in yours), but I’m going to help correct because I’m stupid. 1. Diato was the one that died IRL, not Shoto. Easy to get them mixed up tho 2. There was a button to shut off the game, but Wade didnt almost shut it off like an idiot 3. I believe that the Jade Key was in Art3mis’s possession for 3-5 days before the sixers got it and cracked the code in around a day. H was next (I’m calling her H because I don’t care and it’s easier), and she sent Wade a not with the cover of “Zork” attached. This was a hint for him, because the Jade key was hidden on Frobaz, where you can play recreations of Zork and it’s sequels. He got it almost immediately Yes, so many things were different and a lot of people didn’t like it, including me. I am not in any way, shape, or form trying to attack you. I just wanted to tell you some things that I think you got wrong (the button one especially). Everything you said was true (unless I am a complete idiot, which I probably am), so please don’t get mad at me. Thank you

No sin points for the actions of IOI against the people until the very end of the movie by legal authorities? Like, they're kidnapping people, bombing homes, etc. in the movie with zero consequences up until Wade wins, and then suddenly the cops get involved?
@petrkuklinek52226 жыл бұрын
Its actually explained pretty well in the book, before they blow up the trailer, Sorento tells Wade that noone will care because it will just look as meth lab exploding and Daito death just looks as ,,another otaku suicide''.

Let's also ignore the fact this takes place after the internet, speedrunning, and generally playing games the dumb way was already a thing. Someone should have gone backwards within a day of the challenge being discovered.
@Hadyen_6 жыл бұрын
Kobalent I doubt that, even trolls wouldn't have risked losing everything to test that. Remember, Halliday said something during the memory scene, can't quite remember the exact quote, that suggests you have to go full speed in order for the gate to open. Also, people likely wouldn't have gone backwards as they could clearly see the wall behind them and likely wouldn't think they would gain anything from doing it. It's not like this was a lap race, it was point to point
@Kobalent6 жыл бұрын
HaydenRich27 you overestimate the intelligence of large groups of gamers. There would definitely be at least a niche willing to try dumb stuff, specially if they are dedicated to hunt Easter Eggs.
@Hadyen_6 жыл бұрын
Kobalent that is true, but it is also suggested that the credits equal to real life money, as you can buy irl products with them. I don't think it would have taken 5 years to find the first key, however, I still think it would have taken a little while
@agonleed38416 жыл бұрын
HaydenRich27 nope. Other guy is right. Some people have money to waste...or d ont mind wasting money. I have done plenty of dumb shit in ga,rd for. But to be fair...its all rationalized by some way. Like..if everyone is failing this challenge, then OBVIOUSLY it's time to do something different. After you've failed 3x...its time to do something different. So, yea....the first day, many people would've flipped each other in..or attempted. Exploded someone in. Tried getting out of the car to run And at some point, on purpose or by accident, the car would turn backwards...amd voila. Even if hit was just the person in first, PURPOSELY blocking off the rest, then get hit and spun backwards. And someone else, seeing that, maybe not having enough people to hit them, would try to simulate it by so just driving fast and spinning out aiming to go in backwards. If you play online games a lot, these scenssrios are all likely to happen within the first day of a hard challenge.
