My theory about the grandfather is that he's a half vampire, like star, David and laddie. He keeps the hunger at bay by feeding on the animals that he taxidermies. His "root beer" looks awfully thick and reddish for bottled soda and he has intimate knowledge of the local vampire population and their ways. He's a half vampire who has been fighting the other vampires since at least the 70s.

And the reason why all the vampires are in Santa Carla - aka Santa Cruz - is that The Vampire Lestat, written by Anne Rice, had been released two years earlier. In which the vampire Lestat, who was an antagonist in Interview with the Vampire, woke up from a long sleep in Santa Cruz after hearing a hair metal band.
@johhanwindsalor94782 жыл бұрын
Wow... I really hope that factoid is true.
@kitbradley26892 жыл бұрын
@@johhanwindsalor9478 Well, I made a mistake. Lestat did not wake up in Santa Cruz, but it was where he planned to reveal himself as a vampire. It's been a while since I read the book. And it is slightly more complex than "Anne Rice based part of The Vampire Lestat" there. There were also a couple of serial killers in California in the 1980s - the Night Stalker being the most famous - that also created a groundswell of urban legends and folk stories about vampires in the state. But for movie purposes, The Vampire Lestat's publication was the immediate prompt. All the California serial killers were also part of the reason that Rice put Lestat in Santa Cruz, too. But almost immediately after the publication of The Vampire Lestat, Santa Cruz saw an increase in vampire-related tourism. It's been fifteen years since I lived there, but they embraced the vampire kitsch.

Pacifica - a city really close to Santa Cruz had a big vampire craze in the early 90s. Maybe that’s where the idea originated from. I know this movie was made long before that, but the origin could have still stemmed from it. Who knows?

The "death by stereo" line should have removed a sin! It's a classic!

growing up, we almost always ate food around 8pm. Sometimes 7pm, but never 5pm. That was way too early! Also, both parents working jobs and getting home late was part of it too.

Same here, my mother worked all day & came home then cooked so we ate at 8 or 9pm. My wife worked retail for years so she liked to eat at 9:00 & we still do. The worst was staying at someone’s house who ate at 5:30. I would be starving by 10:00.

Same! Dad got home from work after 7. No problem, just have a snack after school. Still eat “late” to this day.

3:58 - this was not a red herring to make people think the frog brothers were vampires. These two people (and the rest of the guys gang) clashed with David and his gang at the very beginning of the movie, remember?

Star can come in cause she is a half-vampire. But also I think once the master vampire is let in the rest are. Which is why the boy could go in just fine during the fight. Also, why must you sin my favorite vampire movie 🥺🥺

When talking about the TV, it reminded me of my Memaw. She had a small, B&W set, later color, in her kitchen (for when she was cooking), and I remember all of the times I'd sit there & watch my shows as I ate breakfast. Thanks for the warm memories.

In Spain the supper time is usually between 9-11 pm. And sometimes 8pm for children. When you have a lot of sun hours you can do that. On the other hand our office hours can extend to 6-7pm. It comes with the latitude.

Glad this finally got sinned here. It's a great one for sure! I rewatched it recently and it still holds up. Much like The Goonies, The Lost Boys is one of those classic movies that my mom always had playing when I was a kid. She always talked about them being really good and quoting them. I watched them a lot. Good times. This video was hilarious. I laughed out loud so many times, lol. Nice.

Actually, the bag of garlic is highly plausible. Gilroy, CA the "garlic capital of the world" is less than an hour drive away. So, yes, he'd be able to get that much garlic fairly easily.

This is one of my favourite ever films, & I used to watch the VHS we had repeatedly! You are right about the soundtrack being awesome, although you missed a sin for when the vampires leve the cave before the final showdown - they literally just rewind a shot from earlier in the film. You can can see the waves moving backwards!
@kristennelson31902 жыл бұрын
Santa Carla is a haven for vampires because a lot of teenagers ran away to there and the town had a lot of vagrants in general. Therefore, people wouldn't notice as much if someone went missing.👍😜🖤

The Goonies-level yelling and shining torches at the vampires in the cave when the boys went in to kill them should have woken the vampires up immediately and is definitely sin-worthy.

The grandfather didn't intervene during the dinner to warn his daughter that she was dating a vampire because he probably knew at that point that the vampire was invited into his house. Now, having said that, he could've warned her about it the next day.
