Can’t deny that Davinci Resolve is a powerful tool. I’ve ditched my old Adobe Premiere and if Davinci maintain the product I can’t see me ever going back. Don’t worry Adobe, I’ll keep Lightroom for my stills

L1993H I used Capture One well before Lightroom existed and really liked C1’s image editing as my main editor but I also tried Pixmantec’s Rawshooter and this was powerful too. This was around the mid 2000’s. Then Adobe acquired Pixmantec’s technology and that was applied to Lightroom. Since Rawshooter was discontinued, Adobe gave us Lightroom V1 for free in 2007. For somebody taking tens of thousands of photos, the Library function of Lightroom has been incredibly useful to manage my raw files. I tried Capture One again at some point but with my huge catalogue of files in the Lightroom Library, it would be time consuming to switch my process to C1

Best explanation of this feature I've found on KZbin. Hand shot some concert footage over the weekend, but the lens I used had no IS built in (WHOOPS). Davinci Resolve to the rescue, my first attempt made it soooo zoomed in. This video helped me understand what I was doing wrong and get some pretty great IS, allowing me to salvage the footage! Perfect! You provide actual examples, comparison and even visual aid with the video itself. Bookmarking this for sure! I'm finding that for hand-held zoomed in close-ups, Similarity with a low Smoothing and around 0.9 to 0.95 of cropping is good. Too much Smoothing can make part of the clip nice, then adds a fast zipping motion, like wrenching the camera to the side.

If you have a complicated shot which you have to reframe constantly during the stabilization process: the edit tab stabilization, neither the color tab stabilizer, neither fusion will help you out. The best solution in this case is the warp stabilizer in Adobe After Effects.

@@JamieFenn Hi Jamie. It's not a question of issues with stabilizer functions in DaVinci Resolve. It is more a matter of impossibilities and more possibilities in other applications. After Effects has the option of "Synthesizing" the edges with the Warp Stabilizer, this is a kind of "content-aware fill" of the missing frame-parts when you have to avoid cropping/zooming. This makes precise customizing/framing possible with position and scale keyframes. The same with Fairlight in DaVinci Resolve. Looks nice, but cannot be compared with the subtleties and precision that are possible in Adobe Audition.
@JamieFenn
@JamieFenn 4 жыл бұрын
ohhhh gotcha ok. You can accomplish the same thing in Fusion with mirroring and filling the edges of the frame.

Nice one! It took me a while to try and figure out those sliders! It doesn't help that I'm learning while doing a project for someone and it ticks all the boxes for worst stabilisation ever : continuous long shot, changing focal length, changing position, rotating around the subject ... I just can't find settings that work for it, and if I split it into sections then I can't get them to transition as if they're not split up. I'm trying to use trackers now cos they make it super smooth but trying to track lots of things 1 after the other is proving super impossible too. Any tips for such a nightmare scene appreciated 😭

Hi, I wanted to ask when I do the stabilization on a clip, then I insert transitions with the other clips, at the point of the transition having to lengthen the stabilized clip you can see the jumps. Do I have to stabilize a longer clip each time and shorten it to insert transitions or is there another way to do this? In some plugins like Mercalli, when you insert transitions, the software regenerates the rendering of the stabilization to make it even above the part with transitions or fades. Congratulations on your videos!

Is there a reason the stabilization would crop my clip. When it gets done with the analyze and stabilizing it crops my video so I can only see about 1/4 of the picture in the clip and the rest is black.

I explain all of that in this video.

@@JamieFenn I watched the video and I understand the cropping and zoom and there will be some black on the outside. However my clip is now 3/4 black and that is rendering the clip useless. I shot the video sitting in a chair and not moving the camera much. I've watched many videos and nothing explains why after stabilizing my clip basically goes black.

Stabilization is epic! But having shaky footage is also good too depending on what the shot is.

Hey Matii! To be honest I dont stabilize my drone footage. I use a gopro Hero 7 on my FPV drone and try and fly as smoothly as possible. The gopro does a pretty good job.

@@JamieFenn Ohhh thanks for your response, unfortunately I have a gopro hero 4 session and it doesn't have its own stabilizer. as said before if you wants i can share a video as example.

Well if you watch this video I try and show you how to get the best results using the options DR provides. Then Its up to you. I would try using similarly since there's a TON of perspective change in an FPV shot.

So Smooth is how smooth the motion is and Strength is how strong it is? What the heck, man?! OK, the smooth part was fine, but you didn't explain *anything* about the Strength slider. What is it? Does increasing Strength make the motion smoother? If so, what's the difference between that and Smooth? What about negative Strength? You're really only explaining the parts that everybody already kinda knew, while leaving out the unclear parts.
