Hiya Will, I am writing from Houston, Texas and just want to say that I love all your videos. Love your eloquence of your delivery in all your explanations, they are spot on and also love the fact that you are old school as am I, therefore can relate to everything that you are wanting dog owners like myself to apply in raising our dogs, trust me never a better way in my book!! Pls keep your videos rolling and stay well and blessed. Cheers :-D

It took us 3 years to make the decision of buying a pup. Took even a few weeks of talking about it when we decided it was the right time. And of course watching dog training videos, asking breeders questions like what advice would they give to new dog owners. They give answers you wouldn't think of. We'll continue to watch these kinds of videos as we go along 🙂

We kept Livestock Guardians for our goats, cows, chickens and pigs when we lived in the States. They do bark a lot at night. It's part of their job. That's a challenge with them in a neighborhood.
@bishamuesmus3014 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering my question regarding livestock guardians! Very well answered! I ended up getting one as he was not being picked up at the local humane society and they called and asked if we would be willing to help, definitely went in a bit blind. Do believe that they need more space or something to guard to keep them busy during the day/night.

Will, just saw your bull mastiff course. 2 questions: 1. Will you be making one anytime soon for Corsos? If so, what does your timeline look like? 2. If we already purchased the Perfect Puppy Course is there a way to “upgrade” to the breed specific course without having to pay full price since the PPC has already been purchased?

Hi Will and Rachel, We are considering getting our first (ever) dog. I've watched many of your videos and have gained a lot of confidence from you. Thank you. We live in Mississippi, in the US. I've picked out breed after breed, done the research and ruled them out. I actually called about a Catahoula Leopard dog but he was a year old with no training and had never been around chickens...so, no. I keep coming back to a Great Pyrenees. We live on almost 3 acres, have chickens, quail and rabbits. We have lost untold numbers of chickens to predators: raccoons, aerial predators, snakes, and I even chased a fox out of the chicken run. I have 2 major concerns: 1. the double coat of the Pyrenees. Because we live in the Deep South, the heat and humidity in the summer can be oppressive. I know other people have Pyrenees in our area, but I don't want the dog to suffer. 2. We have put up a perimeter fence, except around our pond. We don't want to fence the pond, but I don't want the dog to "swim away". We thought we could put our electric (chicken) fence along the bank until the dog learns not to leave that way. (We probably wouldn't electrify it but could if we had to.) I understand Pyrenees want to roam, so I don't know if that will work. I would love to purchase your puppy course, but it isn't in our current budget. We bought a slip lead and some toys. I'm considering a raw diet since we breed rabbits. We have a crate that would work for a puppy. Everything I read says the Pyrenees will prefer to be outside, but I wouldn't leave a puppy outside at night. An adult dog, yes. So, I'm wondering... do I want a male or female? I'm leaning toward the male. I read not to neuter a large dog until 1-2 years old. Will a Pyrenees be happy as a single dog? I doubt my ability to train 2 puppies at the same time! There are so many things to consider, it discourages us. We want a LGD to guard the chickens, mostly. I know I can be consistent with training. The other factor is our age. I'm 74, my husband is 62. Are we too old to get a puppy? Our activity is working around the property, so I don't consider us high energy. I'm not on any social media other than Facebook, but rarely access that. Answers to any of my questions would be greatly appreciated. I am forwarding your channel to a friend who also has Great Pyrenees and Golden Labs. She told me today one of them has anxiety. I told her to watch your videos and forwarded a couple that speak to that issue. Thank you for all you do. You are amazing!

i'm not a dog trainer but someone who loves dogs and is raising a puppy right now; it's great that you're doing research and thinking about it a lot, it's a big commitment and you want a dog that fits your lifestyle. a few things: 100% recommend raw feeding, if you need to use kibble only use a high quality one that doesn't have fillers like grain or wheat. definitely best to get just the one puppy, it's a lot of work and when getting two puppies at the same time something called littermate syndrome can happen (feel free to google that). i don't know too much about great pyrenees so i won't speak much about them but lots of dogs are completely fine living without another dog in the home. other advice i have is to make sure you're buying from a reputable ethical breeder, start a savings for your puppy, socialise, and continue with your research. hope some of this helped and best of luck!! i love my puppy so much and he fits into my life really well (he's a finnish lapphund). may i also recommend a company called beldane pet professionals, based in australia but have online content that could really help you :)

@@finnghoul Thank you for responding. We tried but failed in the dog world. We found a 7 month old German Shepherd puppy at our local shelter. When we went to meet him, no one asked us 1 question.... which surprised me. Well, he was neutered and we brought him home, with a stop off at the Vet's. He behaved beautifully around the other dogs and we thought: fantastic! He was a gem for 2 weeks. I had no trouble with the leash training. Even though he wanted to pull, he fell into line with the leash work. Unfortunately, my husband wouldn't use the commands we had agreed on and wouldn't follow my lead. (no pun intended) I called a dog trainer but she didn't have an opening for 2 months. Sadly, she encouraged us to take him back to the shelter. She said he was too much dog for us (I'm 74 and hubs is 62). My husband seemed to be getting more and more afraid of the dog.... and frankly, I think the dog picked up on his anxiety. I had no problems with the dog....what I needed was a husband trainer! The trainer said a full blooded GSD needed a younger family. He was a beautiful black/brown color and such a wonderful personality. For the good of the dog, I took him back. I'm still heartbroken, after 3 months. I learned my lesson though and we will not get another dog, based on my husband's response. I can't even watch movies with GSD because I miss him so much. I'm sure they found him a young family for a forever home because he was a beautiful dog and not a mean bone in his body. I, on the other hand, am so disappointed. You do a wonderful service for dogs in need. Thank you.
