I really hope this comment doesn't come off as a insult, but I am loving your videos precisely because you are not a mechanical god trying to show us stuff. You logically explain every step but in a way that those that don't understand this naturally can get because you are walking through your learning process. So many tutorial videos I have watched are by people who are just unreal at the game and they miss the little stuff that they have figured out naturally and unconsciously. I can kind of do many of the things your videos explain, but after watching them and following the training I am finally UNDERSTANDING why its not working like it does for the mechanical gods and I am getting better and better. As a 31 year old dude just trying to get better at a game that feels like its filled with 15 year old mechanical cracked gods, your content has totally reinvigorated my drive to learn and improve. Thank you for your excellent content, well produced videos and the effort you are putting in.
@Grifflicious Жыл бұрын
No insult received! I'll be the first person on the megaphone to tell the world that my peak is Champ 2 and my overall gameplay is no where near "good" but it's improving as I improve and to me, that's more important. To your point, I got into RL content for the reason you listed above. I believe people were glossing over or completely ignoring the nuances of their movements/inputs/choices because they either A.) didn't feel pertinent to the overall scope of information or, B.) (like you highlighted) reached a point where they weren't consciously aware that it was something they were doing, regardless of it's relevance to being successful at the mechanic. For me at this point, the more I've learned about how these mechanics work, how car and ball interactions work, how high level car control works, I can start taking clips or full on videos, break them down over time, and learn not only how people are doing things, but why! Which to me, the "how" and the "why" are perfectly 50/50 in regards to learning. Because someone could teach you what 2 + 2 is, but the meaning and value of that information is far greater and better implemented when you know why the answer is 4. Idk, I get off on this stuff lol.

There are also two approaches to air dribbling off the wall. 1: Tap the ball, and immediately jump off the wall to chase the ball. 2: Tap the ball, brake, then jump off the wall and use your second jump (not dodging, though) to catch up to the ball. It's good to get comfortable with both because you'll come across many different setups, requiring you to approach the air dribble differently.
@sammikinsderp Жыл бұрын
I should also add that there are times you may want to dodge toward (flip) to the ball, but this is less common when you're trying to go for a regular air dribble. Dodging toward the ball is more common when you need to make a 50/50 against a challenge.

The "Tornado Spin" is just the name given to the car's movement when you hold directional air roll and push the stick opposite of that direction. So if you use Air Roll Left, you hold the stick right. Use air roll right, hold the stick left.

I'm currently gc and I'm not trying to reach ssl but I just feel that i'm not consistent in my airdribble with freeairroll and the more I overthink the worse I become.
@Grifflicious Жыл бұрын
@@bass66 I know you don't want to hear this but the reason I believe you're struggling with that consistency is due to free air roll not having a dedicated direction and thus, makes continuous/fluid/efficient adjustments more difficult to do. Not saying you CAN'T ever learn to do it with free air roll but that is going to be a difficult road to travel due to how much is involved with that particular input. To put a bow on the whole thing though, air roll, no matter what you use, should ALWAYS be used to adjust and nothing more. In all honesty, it's over used by most people, myself included, and is a terrible habit to have and break. What you should focus on is how you're making contact, where the ball is going to go AFTER you touch it, and prepare to already be moving in that direction before you ever touch the ball! Air dribbles involve FAR MORE anticipation than people realize. The secret to aerial control, if there was one, is to control the touch intentionally so that it goes where you want it to. So, armed with that knowledge, you aren't trying to "recover" in the air to touch it again but rather, you ALREADY know where it's going to go and will be ready to touch it again much sooner and more controlled. It's like being a psychic and you're playing in the future!

How did you get so good so quickly 😭
@Grifflicious2 жыл бұрын
Just a matter of practicing the right things and focusing on what you need to do the things you wanna do. For me, it was learning air roll left and from there, figuring out how to use it to score and make touches.

@@Grifflicious I just need to know one thing, did you have to practice a lot to implement the air roll in your air dribbles, or did it come intuitively after practicing directional air roll, and if you did have to practice a lot then how long did it take you?
@Grifflicious2 жыл бұрын
@@gib5009 it’s two fold. It took learning DAR first and then after I got comfortable, transferring that into air dribbles. At a point, it becomes learning the stick inputs to do the same moves in each situation.

I honestly just cannot learn air roll. I know people are gonna say “just keep trying” or “you will get it soon”, but honestly it’s just too hard. Everyone keeps telling me to do a “simple” stick input and keep air rolling, but that doesn’t work. Every time I boost I just go off course, leading me to miss the ball completely after I had a clear set up to hit it to the goal. I feel like I can just do better without air roll at all, unless somebody actually spends time to teach me or teaches me carefully.

4:50 , you claim that "hitboxes of most vehicles have a slight slope towards the nose"... but any resource I see on the topic of hitboxes only shows them as boxes. Source kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2rNYqCKg5aSjNU ... Rocket League is definitely a game where repetition, muscle memory, and placebo often dominate a player's performance, and in contrast, absolute details like certain physics numbers or interactions aren't technically necessary for learning, but personally I like being pedantic about the video game. Sometimes in these videos they could use some fact checking.

This moment when you watch a air dribble tutorial to learn ground dribble
@Grifflicious Жыл бұрын
You know, I'm certain that this is the reason this video didn't do as well as I had hoped but for me, I couldn't help feel like there was a huge interconnectivity between ground control and air control and thought it was important to have one before feeling like you had the other. Regardless, and perhaps I should have made this more clear in the video, if you want opportunities in games to go for air dribbles, most of the time, you have to create those opportunities and that comes from being able to control the ball on the ground and take it to the wall.
@killienh.3386 Жыл бұрын
@@Grifflicious I think you are right and ground dribble is important to understand how the ball moves than hitting your car
