I do one of the more odd grips over the old/stock base grip using black hockey tape preferring Howies Hockey Tape for cost/durability that is the around 1 inch wide and going over the first attachment at the top with a second layer, before going down where I use a waterproof super glue doing a 1/4 overlap at most but doing an overlap. Now becuse the grip is sticky I then use dirt/soil worked into the grip by hand and brushed off then using a damp paper towel/rag working in the deeper dirt/soil that is further on while removing the harder to remove soil on most of the handles new over grip. I am using Howies Hockey Tape as it is this thin cloth that is super durable lasting a very long time as a grip. I prefer the 4 & 1/4 inch grip or usually a size 1 or 2 depending on if brand sizing has a 3 & 3/4 inch grip as a size 0 or 1.

As a Leatherhead, which leather grips do you recommend?

I’ve kind of stopped being picky about them (compared to when I was scavenging every leather brand imaginable). We carry Head Leather Tour and Wilson Premium and I prefer Wilson.
@zeroelus2 ай бұрын
Yes on the tutorials you mention :) I've liked hydrosorb pro, but syntec was pretty good for me and as I already use a firm racquet, that extra bit of dampening helps, or at least is a good placebo :) Another shout out to Yonex SuperGrap and to Technifibre Players pro, I love both equally. For increasing weight in the handle, I've used cotton and deck screws to experiment with the weight, they're far easier to remove than more definitive options like silicone, though if you don't do it right you'll get a vibration from a non dampened screw :(

Great video. Would like to see a customization one. Leather grip on a Yonex Ezone 98, would this give advantages (other than feel of handle) with the added weight or do yo think its good as is?
@WaltKurtz6813 күн бұрын
Yonex SuperGrap and also Dunlop SuperTac are excellent tacky grips BUT they last really short! That means you have to change 'em all the time, which makes them an expensive option. If the tack of Head Hydrosorb grips (there are several versions) is enough tack for you I really recommend those. If you're considering an overgrip for a bit extra grip size then apply one UNDER your Hydrosorb basegrip. Lasts a LOT longer and is cheaper in the long run 👍
@skimboards4life2 ай бұрын
Gamma Hi-Tech is my favorite leather grip substitute if you don't want the added weight. Super firm feel. I don't like the tackiness of it, but I use overgrips so it doesn't matter.

IDK I just bought Tourna mega tac because my hands have been super dry in cold weather. I usually use a "standard" overgrip, and playing I felt like I had to wet the grip with water. These are Wilson pro comforts, and I still have to try the Yonex super grap in the spring. But I just put on the mega tac grip and I LOVE the tack. We'll see how it holds up, I guess.

You touched on using thin base grips for when your grip is a little big. Please do a second part where you talk about options for if your grip size is too small: good options for super thick grips or even heat shrinks (pros and cons with that).

Curious if you had any insight about what might be causing the issue. I play a lot better with the Blades but the arm issues are causing me to play less. Thanks for any help
@RacketsRunnersVancouverАй бұрын
It could be the smaller handle; you could be straining more when you grip it. Otherwise, I'm really not sure because the Blade is very comfortable. It could also be your string choice.

One thing I feel like is important to mention is that, the sizes are not universal -- I know you mentioned the different shapes, but I find that the sizes (L2 and L3) are sometimes not close at all (feeling wise or preference wise) between brands. For example, I like Head L4 and Yonex L3.

I do not understand why no one talks about durability of overgrips. How long it lasts until it starts to fray, and how long does the feel of the material stay the same! Everyone praises the Wilson and Yonex typical overgrips, however in my opinion, after 2 days without playing, or 1 hour of play, the original feel of the overgrip is gone, and after 6 hours of play, usually it can start to fray around knuckles. I really doubt, if we *have to* change overgrips 2-3 times per week, just for the sake of it.
@elchanclascocina2 ай бұрын
I think overgrips are done by manufacturers exactly to last little, that's why you have some packages that are 10, 20 or even more. To me those 6 hrs you mentioned are the standard where I have to change, but when playing club tournaments I started to always have a fresh grip.
