They restrict them because it makes it harder to locate the shooter by reducing sound and muzzle flash. If you watch the Nashville shooting body cam they went door to door of each class room looking for the shooter until they heard more gun shots then they went straight to her location. I know suppressed shots are still loud but they wouldn’t have heard it as clearly in that specific situation. I don’t agree with the restrictions but I understand their argument.

@@BDD8148maybe exaggerating a little, but paying $200 tax on top is f-ing nuts. Correlating them “being made to last a lifetime” due to their regulation is a stretch. Let’s not pretend that regulation and constant threat of further tightening of “rules” doesn’t have an impact on pricing in the gun world across the board. Willing to be that it mostly does not correlate in an increase in quality at a given price point.

As a veteran, former Fed LEO, instructor and having used firearms for over 35 yrs…. Quality hearing protection is an absolute must ! Use a suppressor if you can. Despite using issued ear plugs and various makes of protectors, I have hearing loss. I wish I would have had access to suppressors from the beginning. Today I use a combination whenever I can. The suppressors should NOT be an NFA item. They should be promoted for use instead.

Before watching the vid, the 2 things I wished I knew were: 1. Get a suppressor that can be used on as many of your guns as possible. Then you can save money on buying multiple cans, AND TAX STAMPS! 2. Keep your mounting system all the same to make it cheaper and easier to swap between guns.
@maximusjoseppi5904

multi cal cans are ok... but they arent good. if you want mediocre-poor performance on many guns and that doesnt bother you, great route to take. if you want the guns to sound good, you need a caliber specific can. if you have a .46" hole at the end of your silencer, its going to do a terrible job on a .22 caliber bullet.. which so happens to be the most popular AR caliber. you are MUCH better off with 3 silencers. a .22LR silencer, a .45 pistol silencer, and a .30 cal rifle silencer at minimum.

Maximus beat me to it, I was practically going to say the exact same thing. @@maximusjoseppi5904 Good points as are the other poster's. I should ad that each individual situation is different. This was stuff that applied to me. I bought mine specifically to use on a .45 pistol, but it was also a good one to use on a 10mm Vector. Luckily, I found out afterwards, that I could swap the endcap for 9mm and use it (with degraded performance) on a couple 9mm PCCs I own. Had I known that, I would've gone tri-lug from the start saving some money. If I like it, I can always get a 9mm specific can, but for now, I can save money and try it on many platforms, and I could've saved money in mounts.

Buying a suppressor is the most ridiculous process. Unless you're fortunate to have friends with cans, there's no way know its tone and suppression level with your specific gun. a 3 db increase is very, very close to a doubling perceived sound volume. The math: 10^0.3 = 1.9953 = ~2. A 5 db increase is 10^0.5 = 3.1623 increase.

@@Painfulwhale360 I believe he made a mistake with the math. His example should have the decimal for the exponent moved over, so it would be 10^3 and 10^5, respectively, as this reflects the logarithmic nature of the decibel scale. As such, from what I have read (not personally measured), an increase of 10 db is a perceived 2x amplification in sound or “loudness”
@Prodigysportsman
@Prodigysportsman Жыл бұрын
So, strictly math, 3 dB is double (energy) BUT he said “perceived “ doubling.” In essence, 3dB is probably perceived (for most people) as 1.5x but 5dB would sound “twice as loud “ even though it is in fact 3 times more energy and louder.

Minor correction, and I could be wrong, but I think (and Silencer Shop thinks) that suppressors are not part of the group of NFA items for which you need to fill out a form and get prior approval before transporting across state lines. Per the ATF, "the registered owner of a destructive device, machine gun, short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle needs authorization to lawfully transport such items interstate." It's not a next step. BATF already bans suppressor barrels without a tax stamp. You would be shocked at how many dead ends they set up. It took me years reading through patents and gun laws to find a solution to feeding a 6000rpm gun, and to make a pistol shoot as fast as a glock 18 without breaking their damn rules. I like the FRT trigger idea, went an entirely different approach myself, but wont sell them, since they can't ban what they don't know about. Once they disband the ATF, i'll market it. Regarding flow through silencers another benefit to having less gas in your firearm action is you also get less gas in your face. Sig's hybrid flow through designs came from the Army requirement that the required suppressor part of the NGSW rifle not push any more gas to the shooter than the same rifle unsuppressed. The Army considers such gasses toxic and wanted to reduce soldier exposure to the lead and other chemicals typically present in such gasses. Even if it weren't toxic getting hot gas in the face while shooting tends to make your eyes tear up (most people would also visibly flinch) making it harder to see what you're doing. Both flinching and obscured vision are highly undesirable in combat.

Ive heard multiple times suppressor dont require the ATF notification to travel across state lines, even if you move from one state where theyre legal to another state theyre legal. I even had a SOT tell me I was wrong, he spent about 30 mins researching it and said there was actually no definitive answer to that.

If the state does not ban suppressors no ATF notification is required, only 9-states do not allow suppressors, all 9 are Communist by the way. ATF Form 5320.20 only applied to SBR's, SBS, Machine Guns, and other weapons when moving them between state lines.

You can travel without notification. They do want you to notify them of any permanent address changes though. It actually says this on the form 4. In the information section.

Should the forced air flow be a ratio of the gas flow? Should I vent it into the adjacent can, or into opposite can for more expansion room?

If you bought a gun from an ffl, you're on a digital searchable list. NFA registry isn't any worse apart from the $200 fee. Use suppressors

These need to be bought as easy as ear protection. I just went shooting yesterday and keep thinking how nice it would be to own a suppressor. And the price should go down on them if more companies can join the market. Competition will drive price down and supply will increase

Hey buddy great videos I've watched them for years and I've learned so much. Just one critique, because I've heard you say it in numerous videos. If the notes are for you and not the audience then why not center yourself in the shot, nice water and geese in the background and you can still use your notes just out of shot. I'm sure you have a reason but I think about I every time you mention your notes. Great videos, thank you!

Can we get a review on the JK Armament 105 CCX 9mm? I like the idea of an "edc can" that doesn't need a booster but if it isn't at least halfway competent for it's size it's just an expensive gimmick.
