I'm late but I love doing this with Mongolia Kublai. A trade route, an embassy and a spy while refusing their embassy and trade route can grant you a +18 combat bonus. Even more if you got to Printing before your enemy

Thanks for the video... When i moved from civ 5 to 6 i absolutely hated the spy system so much that i had to install a mod to completely remove them from the game. They just felt broken AF and the AI is exploiting them more than any other unit in the game. Now after i've put few hundred hours ingame and finally feel like civ6 is my preferred game over civ 5 - i feel confident in trying to play with spies again

I thought it weird when the civs only had spies and espionage in renaissance, when in history spies were used as far back as ancient Era, even in the bible made mentions of spies. IMO a very interesting game if they enabled espionage in ancient Era, nurffed obviously until later tech and buildings give espionage more options. What a missed opportunity!🤦‍♀

Historically it doesnt make sense, but from a game design perspective i can understand not wanting ppl to be able to mess with each other too early. Would be very cool tho and maybe a mod idea!

Awesome video! Do you have any idea if the quartermaster promotion stacks? Based on how polygraph works I'd assume so but I'm curious if you have confirmation on it. Also, do you know by how many levels exactly the intelligence agency building buffs your spies by?

If I have 9 spyd I'd prefer at least 3 with seduction quartermaster and polygraph doing some sort of defense in home territory

Thanks for your videos. They are very, "to the point". Although, I don't think the game producers would like your idea of the spy taking a "cyanide pill" to avoid capture though. It's a little too dark and grim.

Nice. Even the game wiki doesn't have thorough research like this. I wonder how Amani with Local Informants promotion would influence enemy spies. Additionally, I wonder if city-states you are suzerain of count as count as "home territory," meaning if a polygraph spy will prevent fabricate scandals in city-states. Do spies counter spy in city-states, and if an enemy spy gets captured by a city state, does the suzerain get the spy? I guess it doesn't matter since city-states are pretty niche and the AI never goes for them in espionage.

Do you know if a spy bonus from world congress that is available only for some turns is relevant at the start or completion of a mission?

tbh im not too sure. maybe something i could try testing (although not sure how reliably i can get it), but i'm inclined to think it's at completion? i wonder if the hit rate is locked in when you initiate the mission or if it can change...

How do you get the spies to activate the Eureka to speed up a project from the technology tree?

if you mean what i think you mean - you have to send your spy to an enemy city with a campus. if they have researched any technologies that you haven't yet, then you should be able to conduct the steal technology mission which gives you a eureka
