I had really bad luck buying audio recorders. The first one had something wrong with its internal clock and as a result, synchronisation was impossible as the timer ran slow. The second one I bought was broken out of the box, being that the external mic input never worked. Then I had terrible luck with external mics, trying to keep the budget down and buying generic cheap crap which would blow out from wind noise. Even the Purple Panda mic I bought was rubbish. I eventually bit the bullet and bought a Rode Go lav mic for $89 and paired with the Dolby On app on my phone, seems to have sorted out my audio issues. The downside I found to recording on phone is that I have to run it on aeroplane mode or I get digital distortion whenever my phone had to search for signal. Think modem noise without the screech. I did have reasonable luck with one of my generic mics, I had it wrapped in one of my kids' old baby socks which worked pretty well to cut the wind buffeting, until I yanked it out of my helmet by accident and broke the wires. Getting quality audio has been a real bugbear for me and the fact is you do have to spend at least a little bit of money to get it right

I have a cheap oled gopro remote on my bars, easy to turn on/off and start stop recording, also shows the runtime and battery life so you don't need to keep looking in the mirror to check.

What about editing software? What would you recommend? And how do you mount the audio setup while riding? Appreciated for your sharing

My GoPro Hero 7 Silver gets just over 2 hours at full quality. The problem I've heard is that the newer GoPros have higher demands but the batteries haven't been upgraded to compensate. The problem then with the Hero 7 Silver is that the battery is internal and you cannot change it

Yeah I do love that about the older action cams - my sony is the same, so much battery life and therefore continuous recording time

The chin curtain is a novel idea, but my current helmet has this frustrating whistle around the visor that I cannot figure out how to stop. I think it has something to do with the flip down sun visor. I tried packing it with foam, but I think I prefer the functionality of the visor over putting up with a little bit of extra noise

That's interesting, what helmet do you have? Mine also has a drop down visor and there's no whistle

Good info! What software do you use to stitch the audio and video together?
