It's hard not to go in when you're sick because you say you can't come and you won't get another interview. And if you do you won't get the job. I had an interview right after my class and got my period, bled thru my clothes and when I asked to reschedule the interview they said they would call me back. Guess who never called back or ever returned my calls?

Honestly I haven't had that problem. I had a horrible flu once and they rescheduled and got the job. The worst interviews are the ones who already have a hiring prospect, but still take the interview with you anyway so they don't look bad for cancelling and only spend 15 minutes talking to you that to me is the worst case scenario.

Kate I heard that some companies have to interview a certain number of candidates before they can really hire someone, just so that HR knows that all possible candidates have been covered. So even though the hiring function may have already nailed down a specific hiring prospect, they have to go through the other candidates anyway.

Legally all they can ask is if you worked there, at least in most states, if they say anything beyond that and you found out you could sue. I saw it happen to one of my friends dads before he told the recruiter a bit more info about why an employee had been fired, so technically them knowing someone at the company and getting into more details than they should no would actually be against many states employment laws and since Buzzfeed is in NYC and Cali and I'm guessing that's probably where they work then yea totally walking a thin line on their part that's probably why they only mentioned people who lie about having worked at places.

You are leading people astray. Just because these random people you intervuewed dont want you to dress up dorsnt mean most employers feel that wat... I worked in hr/recruiting and even if we had a casual or business casual atmosphere, there was no chance in hell that you would get hired if you came in business casual or casual. You had better dress up. Better safe than sorry. Just dress nicely, no club gear, as if you were going to ask your new inlaws for permission to marry their child. Nothing flashy but gives a good impression.

It's interesting to see the part about weaknesses. Here in Germany, I was taught not NOT talk about your weaknesses in a way that makes you look bad. Instead, it was supposed to be a positive trait turned into something negative. For example "sometimes I get too absorbed in my work and don't notice my surroundings" or "I get called a workaholic a lot because I'm too serious about work" We were taught to never talk about stuff such as being late often, whether we plan on working on it or not!

The most frustrating part of this is that interviewers don’t understand that the interviewee is applying to multiple jobs so it’s difficult to do all that research for just one I wish they’d put stuff about the job and company into the applications instead of just telling me the qualifications and the job duties. Oh and then there’s some applications that are three pages about the company history but not the job itself it’s ridiculous.

S R if your degree is not STEM or law that’s probably part of the reason. Nothing else is constantly in demand. Please it’s summer time kids can up the remedial grunt positions until August/September. Find a low/mid level position work your way up in that company. Don’t leave unless you find something that will pay more and hopefully that’s closer to your degree.
@sr72836 жыл бұрын
Romeo Barnes Thank you for your advice, Sir! That's actually a dilemma I'm facing right now. Should I get any job that's available (even though it's not related to my degree/don't have room for career growth) or wait for for the companies I sent my resume to to call me? Someone told me to not settle for less but I kind of feel pressured to find a job already 😂 I just want to go back to school lol
@nuigurumisama6 жыл бұрын
Romeo Barnes I was told that there is a global demand for STEM majors, but maybe that doesn't apply to the US? It's been 3 months since I graduated. I have a masters degree in engineering, and I applied to over 60 positions, almost 50 different companies, with only two interviews (one of them coming up in a few days). After applying to so many companies, I don't even know what I'm looking for anymore. I went to graduate school so I can get a job that I actually want to do, but it seems like a bachelor's with work experience is far better than a masters with no experience. Of course I have nobody to blame but myself, but I feel at this point there isn't much else I can do about it.
@RomeoBarnes6 жыл бұрын
nuigurumisama a lot of STEM depends on the kind of STEM(this is particularly true in the field of engineering) AND where you are looking. STEM jobs are out there, you may have to move to a bigger city or closer to a tech savvy city. I’ve had to turn many jobs simply because I cannot make the commute and moving isn’t possible right now. Lucky my That may be what you have to do. Save up some money and move. Artists do it all the time.
@nuigurumisama6 жыл бұрын
The state I live in literally has no tech jobs, so all of my applications are for companies out-of-state like CA. I am definitely willing to move, but only if I get the job. If I am guaranteed a job, then I can probably take out loans or do whatever else is necessary to live wherever the company is at, and some companies even offer relocation assistance. I lived in Japan until I graduated though, so I figured coming back to the states (where my parents live) would improve my chances of finding US jobs than being overseas. But unfortunately I haven't see much difference in results. I even applied to internships and startup companies that have no products yet, but I would still get rejections or no response.

The worst job interview I've had was one that I didn't know was going to happen. I had put in an application for a teaching job and the principal of the school called me about a week later and wanted to interview me right then and there; like he had the department head with him in his office and they were clearly binge-calling candidates. The phone call lasted about ten minutes and it was one of the most flustered moments of my life.
@IshtarNike6 жыл бұрын
Nyxie007 extremely unprofessional isn't it. At what point do employees get to turn the tables on them? When do you get to turn up at the school and request an interview? @MysticRaven53996 жыл бұрын
Another big thing employers look for is a thank you letter! Send an email to the interviewer thanking them for their time and opportunity and that you look forward to working with them at their company (be sure to name the company so it doesn’t look generic). There’s even templates online that can help you to send one if you need help writing one. It makes you look more professional and interested in the job.
@nuigurumisama6 жыл бұрын
It's also annoying when there are people applying to big companies just for the prestige/money, and they really don't know or care about the company's products. But in the end, it seems that being able to answer the technical questions is more important than genuinely being passionate about the company and knowing more about them than any other applicant. But I'm just salty because I graduated a few months ago and still have no job, and the result ends up being applying to jobs I don't even care about, which ruins the chances of other people who actually do want that job.

I've applied to many positions. It doesn't matter what level a recruiter is. Junior or senior, they all could use a brush up on their skills. I can't count the number of times I've been pursued by a recruiter to interview for a role, and then have it fall through because the hiring manager passed. Often, recruiters who recruit people on linked in for companies lack some skills on finding talented candidates, even after I say, are you sure my resume and portfolio fit with the criteria of this role given my background in X Y and Z? And they say yes? But then I get a notice down the road that the hiring manager wanted to pursue other candidates.

I have impeccable references. Every job I have gotten has been because of this. I know the right people. Get on the good side of all your bosses and their bosses and use them as references to bigger and better things.

The annoying part is when they ask you a simple yes or no question and expect you to give an essay long answer.

So far what I'm getting from this is even the recruiters can't agree on a standard. Is it one page or two page max resume?

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wearing a suit to an interview if the dress code is more casual... you’re trying to show your best self. Seems silly to be judged for that. I work in HR too

If they are still considering me should I stalk them not literally but you know call them and email them like every day because my dad said when he was looking for his job he called them everyday while they were considering him and he got the job and they said him calling them so much showed his determination and that put him over the top

Apply for a part time job is easy. Just take your resume and apply everywhere. you will get the job. But imo you should have been apply before the summer break. Everyone is already off of school now so they will all be apply. It will be harder.

What would these recruiters recommend to someone who cannot seem to the assessments? Someone I know is trying to land a job and he can’t seem to get them because he doesn’t land in the requirements for the assessments

why recruiters don't give responces? no feedback! if I go to the interview, I feel good vibes, I send out an email with a "thank you for the interview, I will be waiting for the next step" this recruiter was calling me 5-8 times to get me to meet his client, and suddently no responce after the interview, and I get susspiciuos, I start doubting myself what happneded? and I get no responce for the next 2 weeks I understand that I was not picked it's ok, I don't get grudges, I will not stalk you but it would be nice to get a responce of "sory the position was filled, or the client wend for someone else" just give any kind of repsonce! so that I know what I'm standing on, am I still being considered? I need feedback, I want to know if I need to change something about mysleft for the next time I go to an interview

I do all that and yet I never get the job because there's always so many applicants. But I guess it's ok. I have my own businesses. Jewelry, DoTerra and pet sitting.
