Even though I still record video in the compressed format so I don't take up too much space on my hard drive when backing up, I appreciate these videos! Also, just FYI, you can lock the white balance in the default app in the main settings menu after going into the "Record Video" subsection, towards the bottom (Lock White Balance). That update came in the past year or so I believe. Lastly, I wish the default app gave us the ability to not oversharpen the photos/videos. I think it would solve a lot of problems for amateurs like me.

Because android has no standard. If you're talking about features like that then you got a list the phones that actually support them. I would never bother with doing video on my android, it always looks freaking terrible. I'm on a OnePlus 7t which is old of course but it's still an awesome phone. I'm sure I can do some interesting things with the black magic Apple whatever but again the lack of standards is what is the issue. What can work for one person's phone is not going to work for somebody else's generally speaking. And that's the reason why shooting video on Apple is so much easier because the ecosystem is absolutely massive and it's a standard setting that's basically the same for everyone. 😊

There is a huge bug in apple LOG when shooting with pro manual camera settings via Blackmagic app, the issue is that the white clipping point for Apple LOG is not constant for lower ISO values which shifts the histogram to left and crushes the shadow details and even make False Colour and Highlights Clipping Lights useless as at base 55 ISO the footage clips at about 60-70 IRE instead of 95 IRE which is there when using Auto ISO/Shutter speed setting or using Manual settings only above ISO 1250. This uneven white clipping point in LOG even affects the LUT and reduce the overall dynamic range of the sensor at base ISO of 55. Majority of sensor Analog gain is available only till ISO 400 as rest of it is just digital gain adding up which reduces the signal to noise ratio of image as you go higher. Seems Apple designed LOG only to be used in auto exposure mode via stock camera app with tons of Baked in Noise Reduction.

If it’s good enough for Apple Events, it’s good enough for me! Although the uniform focus/sharpness from smartphone video does bother me a bit. Can someone explain how an iPhone aperture of f/1.78 renders such deep DOF that it requires a computational ‘Portrait Mode’ to simulate bokeh? How is it that Apple got around what I thot was principle of optics-making it so both Jordan and the background are in focus at such a wide aperture?
@jonstewart9315Ай бұрын
The iPhone has a much smaller sensor than a digital camera. When you apply the crop factor the full frame equivalent aperture is over f6.
@jlwilliamsАй бұрын
In spite of all the confusing stuff you hear on KZbin, depth of field depends on only two things: final subject magnification (fixed by your screen size) and the "numerical aperture," the actual measured diameter of the "hole" that lets the light through the lens. Apple has been very reluctant to publish true focal lengths of iPhone lenses (instead preferring to capitalize on KZbin-induced photo ignorance by quoting "equivalents" in terms of lenses for Great-Grandpa's Exakta) but the EXIF data on my older iPhone shows its main lens has an actual focal length of 5.1mm, so I'll use that as an example. An f/1.78 f-number on a 5.1mm focal length would be a numerical aperture diameter of a teeny-tiny 2.87mm. Because DOF is determined only by subject magnification and this number, you'll get exactly the same depth of field you'd get at the same subject size with any other lens with a 2.87mm numerical aperture. On, for example, a 50mm lens (regardless of camera format size) a 2.87mm numerical aperture would be found at f/17. So if you took an iPhone photo of Jordan with the phone's 5.1mm f/1.78 lens and another with a 50mm lens on Great-Grandpa's Exakta at f/17, and viewed them both at the same size on your phone screen, you'll see EXACTLY the same depth of field. Hardly anybody in the photo punditocracy wants you to know this...
@CallMeRabbitzUSVIАй бұрын
Depth of field is a combination of Aperture and Crop Factor. Multiple those two and you get the full frame equivalent DoF. In this case the crop factor of the iPhone is 3.456 and its aperture f1.8 so doing the math. 3.456 x 1.8 = f6.2208 So th iPhone is equivalent to a 24mm f6.2 lens on a full frame camera in terms of Depth of field. Hope this helps 😊
