Hello, thank you for you video it was very helpfull. I wanted to ask you where does you doorbell sound when you ring it? I want the doorbell to ring on my iphone, like using my iphone as the chime, but cant manage to do so. Video works, notifications work, but I cant make it ring on my iphone or ipads. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Iphones let you set custom notification tones as far as I know!

I have this doorbell, I ended up wiring it. You need 8-20VAC at the door. I had 18VAC. I wouldn't suggest getting a doorbell that needs to be charged. This all being said, it's a great doorbell cam, I love it.

We have a Nest Doorbell at the patio door but I'm interested in this one because it's battery operated, right? There is no wiring involved? In my case, it would have to be mounted on brick. How do you charge the battery Brian? I promise I watched the entire video! LOL

Hey Monica, thanks! So for mounting on brick, you'll need that masonry bit for your drill. You don't need to wire it in, but you could if you wanted to! It's a choice with this one :) It's fully battery powered if you want, and rechargeable so you'll just take it off the mount when it needs a charge!

So...this is only based on iOS notifications settings. I don't think there's a way to change that one right now actually as I look at my settings.

I have the Nest Camera Battery at the front porch.. Trying to figure out the benefit of also having the doorbell. Obviously the camera angle is likely different plus can respond if person actually pushes the doorbell. These Covid days find delivery folks don't touch to ring, simply leave packages at the door. Also like to know for the camera or doorbell if notifications can be emails as with older cameras.

So the big difference is package delivery notifications and of course the ringing when they do press it. I do like the fact that I get notifications for packages, and then notifications when they disappear. That's about it for now though!

Yeah, you gotta check the range on that. This doorbell does have a spec for power and for the chime, so just check that those are matching. It's supposed to be good for most households, but I wasn't sure here in my own home as I think you saw.

Thanks so much for the detailed review. Is there a mounting option for renters? The battery version excited me until I discovered you still have to drill? There is a no drill “BOA” door mount available for Ring and other brands but I don’t think it fits the Nest Cam’ unique design. Any suggestions for mounting without drilling? 🥺

If you're not afraid of someone just ripping it off the wall, you could use a dual sided tape. The good clear dual sided tape that they call "nano" works for me and it's really hard for someone to get off without a good amount of time pulling and twisting. Honestly, I would just ask for the single drill point from your landlord. I'm a renter and managed to get it myself, so I get the concern but this is becoming a very normal request I think.

@@AutomateYourLife thanks, that’s an option but I’m concerned about heavy weather events that sometimes push rain water onto my doorway. I already have some nano tape that works great on appliances and walls but not too sure about outside wood. I’ll try a few workarounds 😀

I have horizontal wooden panels like you do, but they are narrower. Given the length (160mm) of the doorbell, I will need to go across the panels (from about mid-way on both the lower and upper panel). They should be roughly the same in terms of level, but there will be a gap behind the angle/metal mount. Do you think that would still work?

Yeah I think a little gap will be fine. There's a small gap even with the mount the way I've done it and there are no real openings in the back of the doorbell other than a charging port

Great video, when you push your doorbell. Your phone said that someone was at the door. I have mine up and running, but can't get my phone to ring like a bell, or the talking saying someone is at the door. When I ring my bell I get a notice in my notice bar. And it sounds just like the nest cameras I have outside. What am I doing wrong ?

You can add lots of custom sounds to different notifications but it's gonna depend on the OS. Android you could use tasker to do lots of great things with notifications too

It's good, but the battery wears out quick and you can't do much automation with it. There's a new one coming too. A wired option :) So not my favorite, but definitely up there for its recognition features and ease of install.

Nest Doorbells are very limited in what they can do to start a routine or automation. I believe the answer is still no, but I expect this to change later this year.

Good review Brian. I have to mount on angel stone, and looks like the adjuster for an uneven surface will do the job. But first have to get the Nest Yale lock installed - unfortunately the existing hole is 1 7/8 in. Why is every job harder and takes longer! LOL

It's totally possible on the Nest Hub! You should be able to just ask to "show the NAME_OF_DOORBELL". The Google TV has been hit or miss but I've been able to do it recently. That integration SHOULD come but for some reason hasn't been available fully yet.

So it's 3 hours in terms of actual time, not recorded time. It keeps the last 3 hours worth of recordings, so if one person came by your door in the last 3 hours, you will have one recording

You can wire this into your existing chime, but you'd need to check the power output of something else. I showed that in the install section though!

There's nothing wired in between the inside chime (old) and wireless doorbell (New). My old nest doorbell had a doohickey that you put inside the chime box to make it ring when the Nest doorbell was triggered... but that was a wired doorbell. My old Ring had a box you plugged in that wireless connected to the wired doorbell to make noise inside when the button was pushed. Is the ONLY way for the new Nest Doorbell to alert you is via phone?? Thanks for the help!

I've also read some threads on upgrading the doorbell transformer, which will work with the chime, plus provide a constant power to keep it charging. Anything you have found...please share.

As far as charging, it only comes with the charging cable and no adapter. If you plug it into the usb on a computer it says charging time for mine is 6+ hours to charge when it was at 58 percent. Please use a compatible 7.5 W cable and adapter for faster charging. I do not see on Googles site that available adapter. Do you know of one. If I let the battery run down I don't want it to take days to charge. Thank you and as usual great video

I've been using the Pixel chargers and that's been very quick. I'd say an overnight takedown is the best situation but it'll definitely charge faster than that

This depends on where you are talking about the notification sound. It can come out of your phone which is in your phones settings, a Google Nest Hub which is the volume on that hub or other speakers, or if you are talking about the doorbell itself then you were talking about the settings for sound inside the Google home app

The device doesn't give you any boost to WiFi. You'd need to extend your WiFi at 2.4 GHz to get out there. We showcase really good mesh WiFi systems every so often and that's what I'd recommend. Don't use wifi extenders :)

Great review especially as it compares against the Eufy. I just got the nest and I'm disappointed with the video quality. I might go for the Eufy but the speed of notifications on the nest is very good.

My speed of notifications is immediate, and honestly...your WiFi/network could be the reason. The Eufy might help if you get the base, but often it's those basic reasons that notifications don't come up quick. For me, it's instant and 2 seconds later I have the preview roll on my phone.

I'd say 3 months would be average. It can be much longer depending on how you configure it. I'm very aggressive in notifications and do tons of extra things and it gives me about 2 months

I have the Google Nest battery doorbell and, as of Nov 2023, there is a major bug where audio from the doorbell is sent to the headphone output rather than the speaker output on Android devices, meaning I can't hear the person at the door on my phone without plugging in headphones, which is ridiculous. This is happening on both my wife's and my Samsung phones and on my Chromebook, using the Google Home app.

I am not able to get my nest hallo doorbell to chime with my google mini or my google nest wifi extenders (with sound). Have any of you tried this setup... Now during my several tests I now have 2 "homes" one that has the doorbell showing but no speakers, and an other "home" where the speekers are. I am not able to move or install the doorbell in the correct "home" and I cannot see where or how I delete the extra "home" that I have... This is trully a nightmare to setup, can any off you help out either respond here in writing or guide me to a video that will show step by step how to connet the Nest hallo doorbell to my google home Thanks ;o)

Hey Jacob, your goal should definitely be to get the Nest Doorbell into the home where your speakers are. I'm not sure why that's happening, but you should be able to delete any extra homes you have. If you can't get it into the home with the speakers, chat with Google Support. I think that's the best way to get guided through this. You should have the option to choose any home when you do setup, but if you just start the setup while you're IN the right home within the Google Home app, it should come in. So delete Nest Doorbell Switch in Google Home app to right home Hit Plus Setup/Install Nest Doorbell Should be good to go following this video

Right now, you can't bring up the stream at all on Chromecasts. I believe I read that'll be changed in the future, and I'd expect that. The Shield though...I don't know Chris. Sometimes Google takes a LONG time with features like that to 3rd party devices, if ever.

Make sure bluetooth is on with your phone, and take a few things off your WiFi (or a lot of things) and it should connect.

Same problem with all these doorbell cams there is no chime for inside the house so you tide to you phone and if your in the back garden nobody in the house knows there is someone at the front door

So it's 3:4 by design, which means it's tall not wide. I think that's why you're seeing it that way. I kind of like it this way, but I'll test for longer before I fully decide. :)

Why did you use a wall plug when securing to timber .? Plugs are designed for brick or stone not timber!you could have used a 2.5 mm wood/ metal drill to do a pilot hole then scre straight Into the timber .it would be a better fastening than the plastic plug .that being said .some good info in the video

Hi Brian, I just got off the phone with Google support. I've turned the wake sensitivity on "high" because the camera isn't waking for motion or packages or anything like that. The doorbell and camera looks/works fine when manually elicited, but the camera doesn't seem to wake unprompted. Unless someone is pressing the doorbell button or I'm accessing the camera and choosing "live video", the camera seems to always be "idle" and I'd like for it to detect motion and notify me of the motion when I'm not home and at work, for example. I've done everything imaginable and I can't figure out why it doesn't "wake" when motion is detected. Is it because it's battery versus wired? If so, it seems like just a fairly expensive regular doorbell. Any advice would be great!

It really should. You saw my settings in this video and they weren't aggressive like yours...and I get told TONS of times a day. Here's what I'd do, because it's either a problem with this specific doorbell or it's just something in the view currently. I'd take it inside and see if it detects and wakes up for you. If it does, then I'd try it again on the porch, but maybe facing a totally different direction and then see again if it detects you. From there, you should know whether it's the angle, your WiFi signal, or the camera itself!

Why such a low resolution on the camera.. not going to upgrade from the current Nest doorbell. If they had just spent a few more dollars on the camera sensor then I would most definitely had upgraded.

Anyone know how to set an object detection automation for paramedics or firemen? Like there was a recent fire in a building next to me and if the door were open seconds earlier someone's life could've been saved. I'm really interested in setting this up ASAP

Google Door Bell is Garbage, prefer Original Nest Doorbell Camera and the new Google Nest Battery ducks won't even connect to Native Nest App. I returned the Camera
