I defintely think that the scene where the riders retreat from Osgiliath with the Nazgul in pursuit...when Gandalf rides out of Minas Tirith and wards off the Nazgul so the riders can make it to the city is one of the best Gandalf scenes and should be on this list.

Sir Ian is so good at playing Gandalf. He isn't a wizard in real life but he imagines what it would be like to be a wizard and then pretends to be a wizard in the film. He knows what to say because somebody wrote the words down on a script and he knows where to stand because somebody told him. But the amazing thing is he learned the words, which is why you don't see him carrying a script in these clips.

He is declaring his defiance to the beast of Morgoth, as the Flame of Arnor, is supposedly the most powerful of magic fire, more powerful than the Flames of Udun. But at the same time, he knows HE may not be as powerful as the Balrog, he still challenges him none the less.

I'm not a strong reader I'm a better listener so I've recently done the Fellowship of the Ring on audiobook with Andy Serkis narrating and just started The Two Towers I'm so invested in this the story is amazing so far we all know how amazing it is really 😁

I don’t see why people here diss Dumbledore. Both him and Gandalf are characters who possess great wisdom and use it for good. They do all in their power to make the world a better place for all people. Both are powerful but they don’t care about power (except early Dumbledore but that’s a different person) and only use it for good.
