Ever wondered how the average person would fare against the world's fastest humans? Well here's every single time a world class sprinter went on television to race normal people, athletes from other sports, animals, or just do something uncharacteristically whacky.
00:12 Justin Gatlin 9.45
02:02 Tyson Gay stagger start
03:08 Kiryu & Koike topple baseball
04:31 Gatlin, Powell and Johnson team up
05:40 Jesse Owens vs Andre De Grasse
06:48 Jesse Owens vs Horse
07:27 Human vs Ostrich
08:27 Shawn Crawford races the zoo
09:22 Usain Bolt vs Average People
11:13 Rob it to get it

Most non-track runners/fans underestimate how much faster track athletes are than everyone else in the world.

Fr, during that “is the average Joe closer to Noah Lyles or Lebron James?” debate, I saw someone say that “the average Joe is only 5 seconds behind Noah Lyles”, like you have got to be out of your damn mind if you think the average Joe is running 24, I would expect more like 32-37 for an “average Joe” to be completely honest

@@wisforwinnerNot to mention how much they underrate the worth of a second in the 100m and 200m. Normies can't seem to wrap their heads around how fucking long a single second is in sprinting times, let alone five seconds. Imagine scoring a penalty in an exhibition game of football (soccer for those of you who speak Freedom), and claiming you are in the same league as Messi. That's how dumb it is to say "because I can run a 200m in 24 seconds, I'm somehow comparable to Noah Lyles".

So, if in Gatlin's case the wind support just had not happened to be recorded, he would have been a world record holder like Flo-Jo.

Was just cruel luck that Bolt in most of his fastest races never had close to the legal +2m/s tailwind allowed when he ran; 9.58 (+0.9), 19.19 (-0.3), 19.30 (-0.9), 19.32 (+0.4) & 19.40 (+0.8).

@@JumpmanTF There was actually a sports drink company in the 80s called "Cheetah" that asked Ben to do a commercial for them. He declined. I think their catch line was "You can win with a Cheetah." I actually dated a gal that went with Ben back in the day. She put me hip to the roids years before the shit went down. The rest of the world was late to the party...

I wish there was like a 'breaking 9.5' event in Bolt's prime. They could set up fans to give him 2m/s wind at high altitude in humid conditions just to see hypothetically how fast he could've run under perfect legal conditions.

Its up until a sprinter competes with other people in different sports(or average joes) that you actually realize how fast they're moving. Craaazily fast.

Jesse Owens would smoke today’s competition. A sports scientist (or somebody along those lines) ran (pun intended) a biometric test of Owens strides based on his time and distance he covered and then placed him in the modern era. By his calculations Owens wouldn’t be 1 second behind Bolt. He would be one STRIDE behind Bolt. Truly remarkable.

Ben Johnson ran 11.00 at age 60?! The age 60-64 age group WR is 11.70. With a regular wind I wonder if Johnson would beat that, seems like he would.

I remember reading Gatlin got paid about 50k USD for that Japanese game show appearance. He also raced a guy, while wearing a mask and giving him a ridiculous head start. Adam’s Powell was also on a Japanese documentary about the perfect sprinter physique and some Japanese scientists put him through some tests and studied his physique. Japan makes some really entertaining and educational stuff.

That's always the trick with man vs animal races. Unless it's a track horse or dog, the animal doesn't know it's racing and won't give a fraction the effort they're actually capable of. I saw the same kind of thing with a chimpanzee vs one of those lumberjack speed tree climbers. Chimp lost because chimp very casually climbed up and down without urgency.
