It’s 3yrs later , do you still own and play your Floyd Rose guitar? I first purchased my 1st Floyd Rose system on my Schecter C6 Damien FR/Special Diamond Platinum w/bats on fret board 6yrs ago. It’s was a beautiful journey figuring out my Floyd Rose from adjustments to tearing it down then put it back together and keeping level to the guitar body was a headache to such great happiness, it’s easy to Intonate the guitar as well. And then I’ll put guitar away till next day for all the parts to settle down before I figure out what happened next day with the bridge diving into body cavity .. and then I’ll figure out and fix it is thee best guitarist satisfaction ever ... Of course KZbin was my friend on this journey as well for assistant.

I recently bought a Varibrant Deluxe 88 guitar, but I don't know how to lock the tremolo, because it doesn't have a body behind to hold a piece of wood or something and lock the bridge that you recommend doing to lock the Floyd on that specific guitar.
@Phil_Trujeque4 жыл бұрын
_"Back in the day",_ when it was time for me to change strings/set up my Kramer, I used to shove a cassette between the body and the Floyd. Those trem stoppers weren't available back then (then again, they're available NOW, and I still don't use one)... When the gentleman says "the easiest way" to prevent your Floyd from rocking, is NOT by using that contraption... you have to be resourceful and figure out a way to shove something behind the guitar, between the trem block and guitar body, OR between the Floyd bridge plate and guitar body... If you go the "cassette" route, use something like a t-shirt, underwear or a Hav-A-Hank to place on the body to prevent you from screwing up the finish... Be resourceful...

I'm finding I have to turn the side fine tuner screw in so far when in the D tuna is pushed in to E tuning position, it makes it really hard to push and pull the D tuna in and out. No matter how I tune to drop D, when I push the D tuna in for E tuning, it's at least a 1/4 step down and then I have to adjust the side fine tuner quite a bit, which makes it hard to move the D tuna. Doesn't seem like there's anything else to adjust when you tune to drop D initially, as the instructions say. I've even tried to have the Floyd fine tuner pressing down on the screw just a little or not at all.

@fechart5 жыл бұрын
Hey Adam, I really don't get the maths behind this... If you set up the device to D, with the bridge against the guitar body, and then go E, the bridge will slightly lean towards the pickups and screw your tuning... Because E requieres more tension than D. It makes more sense to me setting it up while in E, and then go D, so in D (less tension), the bridge can't move back because it's against the body. This would be "safer" IMHO, even when the springs are tight enough to keep E against the body... Super interested on your opinion, cheers!
@FloydUpgrades5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Flavio. If the bridge is lifting up when moving to E, the springs are not tight enough. Increase spring tension and then repeat setup from D position. Setting the "thickness" of the D-Tuna when going up to E is the key.

Great update video, Adam. I recently purchased a Wolfgang Special and installed the D-Tuna per your instructions. My problem is that I am unable to get the fine tune set screw to adjust appropriately. When I move from the drop D position to standard tuning, I find that standard is sharp. I have tried turning the fine tuner both ways and it doesn't adjust. It just gets tight so that the D Tuna becomes inoperable. I guess it's possible that the previous owner stripped the set screw. Any thoughts on how to fine tune both positions?

I would also mention the first tremolo stabilizer on the market, the Hipshot Trem-Setter. In fairness, while it was the first, installation was a pain, with an invasive and difficult to drill hole between the two spring claw screw holes, but it did work well once properly installed. The newer models mentioned in the video are much easier and less invasive to install, and with comparable final performance. But still, for completeness' sake, I wanted to mention the Trem-Setter. Back in the day, when it was the only one available, I installed one on my 89' Charvel Model 6 and also on my 90' Ibanez Universe, and it worked great in both cases, going to Drop D on the Model 6, and going to Drop A on the Universe, pulling up or pushing down, and still keeping all the other strings in tune. One thing to consider when deciding to install any tremolo stabilizer is that you will lose the ability to do a trem "warble", where you point the bar at the neck or towards the back strap button, and you hit or flick the bar so that the notes flutter in pitch. With a trem stabilizer, the bridge won't free float, and will instead want to clunk back to a fixed spot halfway between pulling the bar up or pushing it down. Conversely though, as the trem is "stabilized", you can firmly rest your hand on the bridge for fixed bridge like tuning stability during palm muting, instead of drifting sharp[. Also..., with a trem stabilizer, you can do Nashville style double stop pedal steel licks, where you hold a note or chord steady in pitch while bending up and/or down one or two strings precisely from one specific note to another specific note, unlike a free floating bridge that if you bend one note up or down, all the other strings will bend in the opposite direction. Basically..., it makes a free floating bridge such as a Floyd, vintage Fender, etc..., act more like a fixed bridge hard tail, but still retaining the ability to pull the strings sharp with the bar, or push the bar down to go flat...

No - The 2 screws are different so you can have the right size depending on where your E saddle is positioned. You need to be able to pull the DTuna all the way out - AND - push it into the E position without the entire head of the screw coming out of the back side of the unit.

does it only work on the E string? what if you put D tunas in all of the trem lock?
@bandit74983 жыл бұрын
I think it could possibly work on the A, but nothing higher. The distance the string travels when being tuned is what affected when it’s engaged. The smaller strings have to travel more to drop in tuning as much as the E string. I’ve never tried it mind you. But I’ve had a Wolfgang for 20 years, and what I know of how it works I don’t think it would. Not accurately anyway.

gonzosc11 second ago... yeah just order trem blocker with some other things also. my interest in the black box comes into play as you mentioned that it helps when running full float for pulling up, I got a Gibson LP with Floyd original installed from factory. while I will be using the trem block to keep the D-tuna from eating the body I will limit maybe 60%-70% of the pull up range. so with only having minor pull up range would the black box still be of value? and if it is, could you fit a black box and a trem block in there with three of your HD spring that I already have!

Followed the directions perfectly. Does not work. I have a Peavey Wolfgang Deluxe from 1998.

It does not work with the licensed Jackson Floyd Rose…even when with an FU tone Black Box installed. If you have it in tune for one tuning as soon as you use the D tuna, all of the other strings go out of tune of course. The only way it will work with this type of bridge is if the bridge was blocked. So no ups on the Floyd, only downs in this scenario.
