Hello. I have a 1993, 15 hp, long shaft. Used to run perfect but over time needed a carb re-build. After completion, it runs, wide open, perfect for about 300 yds. and dies! It will not re-start unless it sits for a while. Plugs burning nice. Completely stumped!! Thanks

I would start by doing a F.A.C.T.S check as soon as it dies. If it won't start until it sit's for a while compare a cold start FACTS check to right after it dies & won't re-start. then go from there. kb

working on a 94 evinrudy 9.9.. disconnected kill switch then I have spark but only on top cylinder,, whats the chances the kill switch and a coil went bad? wires are kind of ratty though, so im going to look deeper.. the wiring doesnt hold up well on these motors very well in Texas heat. might run mine with the cover off..when that little low profile cover is on, it doesnt seem like theress any place for the heat to go. in fairness though, these motors are 20 to 30 years old and I can get any of them running so far that arent seized up.. rarely find them worn out, they just dont get enough use by most folks to wear them out,, the ones with some wear on them and that are kind of loose, seem better,, they start easier, shift slicker, are quieter and vibrate less..

Switch your coil wires & see if the problem follows, Did U mean 1984? The 94 has the high profile hood top mounted recoil start. kb

@@kodibassInsideoutboards SORRY its a 92, E10RENA..9.9 I switched the coil wires and the spark then went to the top coil.. I pulled the flywheel,. and examining the CDI module carefully.. looks like some black gook leaked out,.. looks like I will likely need CDI MODULE.. unless I find a poor connection somewhere,., the black wire coming from the CDI box was mostly bare and very corroded, I repaired that, but it may have taken out one leg of the CDI box...158.56 with 4.84 shipping from crowley marine,. so im into it for a cdi box, a generic kill switch, I made 2 new plug wires for it out of left over truck ignition wires, and will need to paint the hood, and entire motor.. havent run it yet so dont know if it pumps or not,, bought it with a pump kit included, so it likely doesnt pump.. it also came with a partial carb kit, a broken throttle ramp and roller. and evidently some boating enthusiast named JUSTIN loved the hell out of this thing because he carved his name in 7 different places on the motor,, 3 on the cover, 2 on the lower unit, and 2 on the midsection.,. I will have to sand and fill his carvings with jb weld marine epoxy...

Kodibass, I have a disapointment. My head gasket on the 30 horse Johnson is not blown, i had hoped it was, to account for the only 90 psi compression in each cylinder that shud hav ben about 130 psi? The cylinder walls are not scored which could have also caused low compression but at least i wont have to tear the engine apart further to get the block honed down & then replace piston rings. The cyl. walls feel very smooth. I guess i just put it all back together, the reed valves look ok. Maybe not, i better study up on them. There is a slight discoloration between cylinders on the head, & there was oil on that area, but no burn marks or exhaust residue, yet im wondering if this may indicate a compression leak? Also, should i have a real close look at the reed valves, does that seem like a likely problem?

I would use a flex hone (dinggle ball) Give it a quick hone those numbers might come up a bit. kodi

Thanks for your reply, Kodi. And is there any way I could send you pictures of some slight discolorations on my head gasket and gasket contact area on the ridge between the cylinders for you to see if you would think this could indicate slight leak out between cylinders?

What would you say if a 79 15 evinrude runs great one day but the nxt day has no fire? Killswitch is disconnected has New cdi box, and up until last Saturday had zero spark issues.

Looks like someone made this engine up from pieces parts. 1976 engine cover, UFI ignition on what looks to be originally CDII. That stop switch mess is what happens when techs don't have/use the amphenol tools to remove/install the pins/sockets. It's great to have an straight forward fix every now and again. I could use one for sure these days

You R correct on all counts. I might have plans for the crank, I think I have a old 25 hp in my pile ( somewhere) That some idiot smashed the flywheel nut and threads all to pieces . kodi

Hi Kodi, I'm still using my gopro hero 4 and I think they are up to 8 or something like that. Mine still works great and is clear. I use my wireless mic which sounds great too but find myself sometimes just recording without it if its a quick short video. Even though I was a lead singer and bass player in the 70's I was not that great at remembering cover song lyrics. sometime just faked it on stage or made up my own haha. So everything you come up with I have no clue who it is but wish I did. when you shoot your area it keeps reminding me to go down the hill and shoot the puget sound. I'm a mile up the hill. So this week will do that and share with you first then put on my next video or so. Stay dry up there and give Fred an umbrella

My hero 4. Love it. That's why I haven't bothered to get any new ones yet. I should buy another battery for it especially when I'm fishing. So I suggest you get an extra just in case you need to pop one in when your recording. I have been getting by just making sure mine is charged up first.
