Love those little fisherman's! .. I miss mine .. I used mine on a light little 14ft aluminum.. loved it because I could take it to all the little lakes with hp restrictions, fish for days on just three gallons of fuel ... those things kick ass.

Your boat is the same Starcraft as mine. Your transom is a short shaft transom. You should be using a kicker bracket, but you won't be keeping it on there. I made a "helmsman" handle for mine. It works great and guides along the splash pan as I troll for Chinooks & Lake trout.

Great job on the 6hp! short shaft is why it is loud, the exhaust is not deep enough in the water, causes prop slip too. But, these are bullet proof motors! I've owned over a dozen of them in the last 30+ years, and still have 4 in my collection. They don't make motors like this anymore. Again, great job!

I use a 9.9 Evinrude 20" shaft to troll on my 18' Starcraft with a 85hp Evinrude.. I only troll 1- 1.8 mph,using square bill crank baits and 1/2oz Bucktail jigs for Stripers.. I made a linkage rod to steer from big motor to the kicker,pull one pin when I disconnect the kicker.. I always thought the rattle in a 6hp Evinrude was piston slap,that's what my mechanic would say it was! Never thought about the bearings....

Cool, the screaming 6. Yep I have one of the steering rods between my 60 merc and 4 hp Yammi. Works great. I like trolling for coho salmon around 3.5 mph and 1.5 for King salmon. They hang out by the bottom which is 100 to 200ft deep and closer in. Coho run deep right down the middle of the shipping lanes. early a.m. 20 to 40ft deep but as the sun comes up they head down 10ft per hour. I actually have my best luck getting Coho around 100ft to 120 deep around 9a.m.

Nice little 6hp Evinrude, ! I just bought a nice mid 70’s 4hp short shaft Evinrude. It’s to go on my 14’ Aerocraft aluminum boat I restored two years ago along with my 59’ Johnson 18 hp. The boat used to have a forward deck with windshield and steering. I just built an aluminum center deck and reinstalled a wheel with cable steering. The Johnson got converted to electric start. I am now thinking of building an old fashioned glass ‘split’ vintage Chris Craft style windshield for the center deck. I just can’t find any old runabout windshields anymore. You could look for a kicker bracket that moves up and down so you can get it deeper in the water. Cool video! Reminded me of my 86 21’ Pursuit CC I had it was a 225 Johnson main and I had a 9.9 Johnson kicker. The kicker did not get used much but it got me home across Galveston bay one time when I had a power pack die on the main, was a slow ride but we made it .. luckily we had enough beer!

I have the same engine as my auxilary engine,I have it on a auxilary transom bracket.It swings out and has adjustment slots.I can swing it out so the cavity plate lines up with the bottom of the boat stern. Having your larger engine in the water will be causing it to act as a tiller,plus the drag will be slowing you down.

The choke to kill really ended the video off right for me! lol love it. as my killswitch decided to croak, i find myself doing the sameee thing. Keep up the vids man! Also, btw, my 60hp yam is back up and running strong after cleaning carbs, plugs, fuel pump, gas lines, fuel filter. The basics. just some time. although it still seems to sound like it runs on 1 or 2 cylinders at idle on earmuffs. Strange. Also get shocked by top cylinder while pulling spark boot off plug while running but bottoms boots dont shock. Runs tops though while on plane and idle in water. might just be somethin about them late 90's early 00's yammys. Although over 20 years old still not might qualify for TOO. !!! Keep it up man !CHEERS

Usually those 6Hp are very quiet short shaft not deep in the water is in part why its noisy 5 inches deeper would make her quieter if your transom supports longshafts. If that were mine I would swap the flywheel ( slightly Bent) first a known possibility as you confirmed.Then check the prop if the blades are equal lengths and track close to each other against the underside of the cavitation plate as you spin it for a reference point , just some suggestions. Play in the wristpins could be a possibilty too......Other than that you got a good little kicker there!
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 2 жыл бұрын
Hey. Yeah it's to short for that 20 in. transom but I had to test run it. I'm suppose to trade it for a 25hp Tracker, debating on if I should tear it apart or not. I cleaned/reset the points again, sounds real nice in the tank. Do you think it will sound better on his jon boat, I'd really like to be done it! Hahaha. I've got a new set of crank needles that came with the Johnson 6hp "outboard in a box" motor. I was thinking about turning it into a long shaft and keep it, nice little outboard. Anyway, I'll check those things out you suggested and try to run it on his boat. He said his transom needs work but I'll look at it today. Thanks again !

A short story !!@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 I put one of those 6HP on a 8ft aluminum square front john boat style Dingy once. I think I could of won an off sure boat race with it. Man did it fly no GPS back or cellphones then probably 30+ MPH I would estimate. I couldnt stand up in the boat too flimsy and light. Weighed maybe 70Lbs that boat maybe less. It was fun sold that dingy a few years back came from the scrapyard too. Pick one up and try it fun as all Hell. I did put two upper metal corner braces on the transom to hold that 6HP. Anyway try a flywheel change first and check the prop would be my guess .Good Luck!

The vibration is probably coming from the ignition timing being slightly different on each cylinder--as per the previous video. Those motors do have a "dry" pull because there are no main bearings. Plane surfaces between the crankshaft and crankcase. The piston rods use needle bearings--30 at the crank (don't remember how many around the wrist pin). So that rattling could possibly be "chatter". But that low of hp, I wouldn't sweat it if it's not progressively worsening. I would just run it as-is, and do some fine dining on those tilapia fillets!
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tony. Yeah I cleaned/reset the points, again! It's definitely got the chatter. My ears are still ringing! Hahaha. I'm debating on tearing it apart or not. Pain in the azz. Thanks again & Stay tuned !
@TonyGingrich
@TonyGingrich 2 жыл бұрын
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Those motors are so tiny and simple, you could rebuild one in a day. If you do decide to go into it...take a pause after pulling off the powerhead, and check the lower crank seal. It's held against the crank by a spring riding against the roll pin in the driveshaft. (The same pin you lost previously). If that's missing, or dry-rotted and hard, then that can also cause a chattering sound. I replace those with some Felpro cork gasket.

If you want to make that new front deck last longer and be even more waterproof coat it with Bondo fiberglass resin. Then scuff sand and paint. That stuff holds up better than anything else I've tried. And it doesn't cost that much. I use a towel or large spatula to spread it and a cheap paint brush to smooth the coat out. (The brush will be toast afterwards). I use a plastic tub to mix it (old butter tub) and when the rest hardens in the tub it just pops out so you can use the tub for a new batch.

Hey Hammer. Thanks for tuning in! Yeah I did the entire floor with bondo resin. It was beautiful ! Check out those videos. But, Stupid me, waited til the last minute to get paint on it, plus I didn't have a boat cover yet and it started to take a beating from the Florida sun. Luckily I finally got some Rust-oleum boat paint on it and got a cover. The middle section under the bimini top held up good. It still needs a couple more coats of paint/texture. I'm still happy with it! Thanks again & Stay tuned for the next episode !

@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Жыл бұрын
Hey John. Thanks for tuning in! You may have to cut the nut off and replace it. You could try some PB Blaster and a propane torch and some vice grips, Heat & Beat, might loosen it up, but be careful not to melt the big conical washer, I think it's made of nylon. If you can get the nut off and save the bolt that would be good, they're $65 new! Ouch. But, probably find something at the hardware store. Take your time. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

U need a kicker motor mount, sets ur motor back another 8-12 inches, then u can add a bar to tie into ur steering, a kicker motor mount will get u in the water deeper too, probably another 3 inches depending on where u set it.. id be afraid of turning and hitting ur other motor without a proper mount.. just my opinion, definitely not criticism
