it was a rather rash decision the general argument for it was that chen, as a FGC member, could help other FGC members flock to the smash stream in recognizing a familiar face. also, his low-level explanations means it'll have an easier time reaching a wider audience, which is what exposure at evo would do. prog would try to point out more the intricate details of the match for the more experienced. IMO, sounded alright in theory, in practice was rather jarring, but that's how experiments go

it was something that the EVO organizers wanted to do, but a lot of people also agreed to this setup, prog included. it didn't sound bad just talking about it and honestly, IMO it's not nearly as bad as you're making it out to be plus, james chen wanted to commentate. this same dude made the write-up supporting smash at EVO back during days of EVO 2007 and is one of our biggest out-of-community supporters. in light of that, i am perfectly okay with having him on the mic

Yeah, I do agree from that angle it does make sense, it's just annoying to me as a hardcore smasher, having almost exclusively watched vids commentated by other hardcore smashers. The truth is, the other fighting game communities don't care about us, and I don't think JC commentating will make them care any more.

Usually. But Hungrybox is famous for being able to SDI out of the up air 90% of the time. UNLESS it's Mango and more recently M2K at The Big House 3.

OK, I have no problem with him supporting the community, but there's other ways he can express that besides commentating. I've been playing the game for nearly 7 years, I don't need to be hearing shit I learned in the first 2 months. If it were me, I'd have tested his knowledge before letting him on the mic. It's like asking a pro football player to commentate the NBA playoffs just because he's a huge supporter of the league. It would never happen.

Prog is a horrible commentator lol, his hype is so forced and humor is so awkward it's embarrassing to listen to. Scar's the best 'normal' smash commentator by a mile
