He was learning as he went. He fixed his mistakes by picking up on what prog was saying. Sure, we call them "lasers" and he says "gunshots" but literally anyone would relate the two as the same thing from what they see. I don't hate having an old school FGC player and prominent current commentator to cast Melee. Considering he didn't know anything at all about competitive smash in-depth until like a few weeks before this, he did very well with the help of prog.

That's fine. It's hard to accept things that are different from what we're used to. But whether we, who are familiar with the game, personally liked the commentary or not doesn't really matter, imo, because the most important variable was a large chunk of the stream audience who had absolutely no idea what competitive Melee is and I think Mr. Chen's elementary analyses of the matches was optimal in getting those new viewers up to speed. It's always about the viewers!

When you double jump concentrical rings briefly appear below your characters. It is difficult to notice though.

I love James Chen but it's painfully noticeable that he doesn't understand or know much about smash . He didn't know the stage names , the terminology , the moves . He knew some stuff , but it was obvious that he was just trying to use general terms that applied to the situation

AcydRayne666 he didn’t. If you slowdown the match at this moment you will see that falco gets out of tumble in the frame before the upsmash hits meaning pp pressed jump.

I suppose he deserves more credit than what i have given him. I do appreciate him taking the time to study up on the melee metagame. Perhaps i am just to used the regular melee commentators that, any new commentary sits weird with me. That and i still just dont like james chens voice, sorry just imo.

I believe you are confused with the concept of close...that word means that something almost happened. Mango was over 100% on his last stock when he won, that is called a close match.

How disrespectful. For how little he knew of the games, its mechanics and terminology prior to the donation drive, Mr. Chen was able to commentate well enough for a stream audience mostly unfamiliar with competitive Smash, which shows how much he prepared for this event. Plus, having James Chen commentating Melee is like one of the greatest honors Melee's ever been given in the FGC. Besides... well, being at Evo of course. Also, I personally found his commentary to be just fine. No hate here.
