Thanks for this great breakdown. I've been a madman at holding guys in lockdown, but it's been tough for me to do anything but stall from there. I see about 5 basic things I've been doing wrong, and starting this week I'm going to work these three techniques like crazy.

it's alllllll a bout the whip up and constantly off balancing your opponent. also pinching your knees really tight
@dirtkills6 жыл бұрын
Lock down wont work if you get smashed flat on your back and without an underhook its mission impossible to sweep.... unless u got more tricks from lockdown or deephalf lockdown.
@dirtkills6 жыл бұрын
Also lockdown can help u stall certain sub attempts on you... be prepared to protect your neck everytime if youre gonna play deep half lockdown

Purple belt from 13 years ago here. Started teaching a colleague after work and we are training for an hour once a week. Got him to start drilling 5 minutes everyday before we goto the gym to workout. This video was a GREAT review with all the details I needed for moves I used a lot many years ago. I am going to use my daily drill time this and next week to practice these three moves. I know it is 9 years too late, but THANK YOU!

Great Video Good info and perfect speed. Your not starting and stopping with your technique or instruction which makes it much easier to understand. I have a hard time with the first step getting my body to move simultaneously lifting the opponent with both my legs and my arms to give me the space to maneuver into the next part of the position. I also keep forgetting is to keep the brace on their hips when I moved under them and so when I got the lift right the guy's weight was immediately crushing me back down to the mat and I had not room to maneuver under them for the sweep. I wasn't sure what I was doing wrong until I watch this video as soon as I saw your hands on his hips and creating space I knew exactly what I was doing wrong. Thank you for helping me I can't wait to apply the things I learned from your video in my next class.

Thank you very much. How are preventing the d'arce or guillotine when you're getting the underhook? My partners are usuall able to lock it up and i am almost always able to sweep them and then pass to side control but once in a while a more experienced partner will finish me with it. I'd ideally like to not have them lock up the d'arce or guillotine at all. Is it just a matter of getting deeper and faster? Thank you for any advice.

hey man, great video. hopefully i can say this without coming across as an a1 douchebag but your old school sweep that step where you disengage lockdown, if you skip that and complete the sweep its easier to unhook right in to side control instead of ending up in half guard. when you swept with electric chair you actually did exactly what im suggesting and ended up in side control.

Just seeing this now. Can you address one thing Professor? I'm tall (6') and skinny w/long skinny legs. I LIVE on the lockdown but I'm just a sucky blue belt and all i ever do is use it to stall/relieve pressure. I have a LOT of trouble "Hoisting" my partner/opponent over me (the "touchdown" pose) and then getting to my elbow. Any tips for that or just UNDERHOOK UNDERHOOK UNDERHOOK! Btw- thanks for the great vids.
