I think because they were planning to make episode 3 and many episodes, so of course Gordon and Alyx must go to the borealis, but Eli's death changed everything even the developers themselves

I'm pretty sure that the cut ending was the ending envisioned while they were still thinking that EP3 will be a thing , my theory is that late into development they realized ep3 will not happen as soon as they were thinking so they did the cliffhanger (as far as I can tell everything story wise is the same up until the ending) so they went with the cliff hanger ending as to build more anticipation for EP3 which they knew was going to take way longer than originally planned , if they left it at you and alyx just yeeting off from white forest it would have seemed like ep3 would be out in like a year or something , but shit happened and we were left (and still are with alyx) with the cliffhanger

The Half Life Alyx ending would really get fans crying (in a good way) simply because they're actually walking through all of the good times they had while playing the games, and not only that but would explain how Gman gets around and see how he actually felt about all of this, instead of electricity hands that leads you to another of Gman's speeches

Sometimes I wonder why developers left some of the cut or changed elements of the original in the released version of the game, such as models or some other files that are related to them. Is it a developer's oversight, or did they intentionally leave it in because it's easier like that, or idk.....easter eggs ?

For Half-Life 2 Beta 2003 Ending, You just drive under the citadel's ground level with Scout Car and the game ends Portal ending had another ending, But it was mostly the same but with a catch. It's the Xen Ending! Now I can't go full detail because the info I know was been a real long time ago. So I recommend search up "Portal Xen Ending"

Nothing in the HL2 Beta had anything to do with Portal. Portal was developed years after HL2 had been released. The Borealis only had anything to do with Portal after they had dug the concept back up and entirely reworked it for Episode 2.
