Yeah, and all the future sounds (after confirmation) are cheery. Imagine playing AC at night on a cold winter day, you can't see clearly due to you being tired. You just randomly slide your fingers on the buttons, almost falling asleep. Your cursor slips over the Rebuilding option, as your finger slams down on the A button. You hear some jumbles, your vision is almost non-existent, due to exhaustion from your last school day. You didn't sleep well on Friday, you took a nap. You accidentally slip on the A button again. (every game except number 4, portable) you hear a sound that you didn't hear before. It sounded like a dundun--dundun--dundun. You rub your eyes with your hands, allowing your vision to clear up,as you realize that you are currently bulldozing everything and everyone. You try closing your game but it was too late. You then shut off the game and ask your parents if you can sleep with them for the night. Then you forget about it for 4-6 years, then you open your cardridge drawer, insert the game in shock and press A. You really like it and you will make sure to not repeat it again. This is a my representation of a 8-10 year old.

To be fair, unlike the previous games, you're only wiping your residence. The island will remain there, even if everyone is deleted. As long as save data for AC:NH exists, that island will stay there unless you do a complete wipe in the Switch settings.

Everyone is pointing out that Thomas Nook is heartless and doesn’t care, but I disagree. Animal Crossing has had its fair share of 4th-wall breaks, and Nook/Rover etc. are good examples of how AC shows that. From Nook’s perspective, he knows that if you didn’t want the Island erased, you wouldn’t have selected the “revoke” button, so he knows that no amount of persuasion can change your mind. He tries at a second attempt to change your mind, but when that fails, he relies on the game to persuade you not to delete the friends you’ve made, or the progress you’ve worked hard to get. Having failed three times, all Nook can do is give you a smile for what you’ve done, and states that he knows you’ll meet again someday, whether he remembers or not. I think it really reflects how New Horizons reminds you every few seconds that you are the “god” of this island. You can do anything, and the fates of the characters are up to you.

I feel like Tom Nook is so calm about it because he's the type of person that is emotionally distant and guarded due to past experiences that we learn about in prior games. That, and he also works in buisiness, so competition and looking out for oneself are required skills to make it anywhere in that trade. He's probably used to bad things such as this happening, so he reacts so calmly because he's been through so many hardships that made him jaded and hardened when it comes to dealing with others. To Nook, you can't trust anyone to stay there for you, and you leaving behind your entire island just serves as proof for him.

What was shown in the video was a another player’s save data being erased. If you are the original player and try and delete it, he says “However, NAME, you are the Resident Representative, and things would be tricky without you.” Therefore you cannot delete in game and have to do it in the System Settings as he explains ;; After he explains that he says “Again, it will delete all save data for the game. That is, it’ll delete the entire island!” While looking sad then saying there is nothing else he can do.
