Evolution of Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) | 1955 - 2023
Rowan Sebastian Atkinson was born in the winter of 1955 into the family of Eric Atkinson and Ella Mae Bembridge, who lived in Consett in north-east England. The boy from an early age liked to grimace and make faces, what a lot of fun to people around him. He mimicked his teachers and pupils in such a funny, but mean-spirited way that he invariably got rapturous applause. Meeting Richard Curtis changed Rowan's life. Their humorous sketches and humorous numbers were a great success in Oxford, and then the friends went to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh and became winners. After that, as part of the Etceteras troupe, Rowan went on a revue tour of English cities. Before playing his first significant film role, the aspiring artist came to radio with his own program, Atkinson's People.
Flexible and plastic Atkinson also had a unique mimicry. Together, these traits helped create a memorable image of a one-of-a-kind Mr. Bean - a ridiculous, wacky and very vengeful middle-aged man with an indecipherable diction. "Bean is me at 10," Atkinson half-jokingly half-seriously admitted.
Somewhat tired of the obsessive image of Bean, Atkinson decided to create a new comedy hero. Thus in 2003 came "Agent Johnny English", a comedy parody of James Bond.
From 1990 until November 10, 2015, Rowan Atkinson was married to makeup artist Sunetra Shastri. The couple has two children, son Ben and daughter Lily. Since 2014, Rowan has been in a relationship with Louise Ford, who gave birth to his third child in December 2017.
