Traded in my 107 RGU for a 114 Blacked out RG Limited, absolutely love the 114 and the Blacked out look. Just did my 5k service, I already had the stage 1 screaming eagle package and I went added the stage 2 HD Torque Cam, what a huge difference in performance and sound. The stock 114 runs great with plenty of power, but with the stage 2 Torque Cam it runs so much stronger, and gives those screaming eagle slip on mufflers an extra deep throaty sound. Great package i'd highly recommend it.

I am 47 and I prefer the Ulita limited. I think aside from it’s resemblance to police motorcycles, it is a very nice bike. As for chrome or blacked out, I think it’s a mindset. Twenty years ago some people were paying for the option to get chrome wheels on their cars and not deliberately blacking out their car rims, but astonishingly today people with sometimes purchase aftermarket products to black out their rims, so l think it boils down to wanting to go with a trend. Ideally, maybe a mixture of both is the best option, but if choosing between the two, my choice is chrome for a motorcycle as luxurious Electra Glide.

Just got my first Harley ever from Calgary Harley Davidson (don't worry, it's definitely not the first bike I've ever owned). A 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Limited - her name is Ruby. Beauty of a bike, and we love it - had no idea how well balanced an HD is! Kind of cool to know it's the last year it's actually called an Electra Glide, and where the Electra name came from, so thanks for the history lesson! Cheers Matt

Thanks Matt. Enjoy the videos. I am 53 and just bought my first Ultra LTD back in Nov. I have had a total of 8 Harleys over the years (2 Street Glides, 2 Road Kings, 1 Road Glide and 2 softails and now the LTD). I still have 1 softail and 1 Road King. For me, it was time to move into what I believe is the ultimate touring machine. I ride 10k + a year and wanted a bike with lowers and a matching tourpack. Was never fond of those things in my earlier riding years, mainly due to looks but after putting 300 miles on the 18 LTD, I can appreciate the extra wind deflection the lowers provide as well as the additional storage of the tourpack. Both things enhance the riding experience, especially in colder weather. I also think this bike looks good with the tourpack on it. It just fits. As for chrome or black, I like that HD offers the choice. I think the costs should be equal but I also understand the upcharge. I have powder coated a few things on my 18 LTD and I think its just a matter of what you prefer. Lastly, to this day my 2012 CVO RG is the best riding bike I have ever had. However, the new RG fairing is not as attractive as the batwing style though I do think Harley is doing the right thing by offering both of its flagship touring bike styles with the LTD features.

Personally these Electra glides from the 60’s to date are the best looking touring rigs .
@kakarote22774 жыл бұрын
I own a 1999 ( FLHTCUI) Electra Glide Ultra Classic Injection . I love the looks and it being fully dressed out. That said, due to age and physical limitations I’m removing the tour pack since I ride solo, (throwing leg over is more difficult now, hips don’t work like they used to) and other bits and pieces so i can reduce weight. I think the younger generations still believe the ultras to be OLDMAN bikes. And thats why the Street and Road glides are more popular. The electra glide has had a phenomenal run! The pinnacle of touring bikes. But, as with all things, change is inevitable. Long Live The Electra Glide....!

I have a 2014 Ultra Limited and love it. Everything in the fairing is within easy reach vs the street glide. Personnel preferences is what keeps H-D in business. After years on a low rider the Ultra is great for longer trips. Still enjoy my low rider for day trips.. Being an older rider I prefer the chrome look on my bikes. The black out looks good and is probably easier to maintain but nothing makes a bike pop like chrome.

Great video. The 1977 FLHS Electra Glide Sport was the fairing-less FLH and it was replaced in 1994 by the FLHR Road King. It was a separate model from the original Electra glide but still continued to use the FLH moniker. Also getting the FL designation was the FLST Heritage Softail that mimicked the original 1949 Hydra glide now on a Softail suspension instead of the rigid (hence the replacement of the 'H' with an 'ST'). The FL designation as a 'Frame, Large' nomenclature was abandoned and for a time became the identifier of the traditional 16-inch front wheel and big flared fenders. Even more confusing, it seems the motor company changes their letter designation meanings as time has gone on. The FL meaning has been abandoned with the introduction of larger wheel diameters and some sources quoting that 'F' in FL designates the engine size instead of the actual model line.

The “Bat wing” fairing introduced in 1969 as a removable fairing was actually Harley-Davidson’s rendition of an aftermarket fairing brand called the “Wixom” fairing. The RoadGlide (fixed) fairing is actually a descendant of the aftermarket fairing commonly found on early model Honda GoldWings called the “Vetter” (brand) fairing. The Grandaddy of the RoadGlide so popular today was branded the TourGlide that was introduced in 1979 as a 1980 model year. It was a matter of preference if you liked the look of a more bulky, fixed front fairing that didn’t turn with the front forks and appealed to the Japanese touring bike riders, whose selection of models were rapidly expanding in the Japanese bike sector, or the sleek and curvy stance of the bat wing fairing that bolted onto the front forks and trailed the steering of the bike. Your choice.😊❤

My first RG was an ‘09 and back then it was the red headed step child in the touring lineup and I rarely saw another on the road. Now over half the touring bikes in my AO are RG models once people finally realized how great it is for customizing and long distance touring. And oh yeah, chrome is eternal while black is a cyclical fad like it was in the 80’s. Nice to have choices 👍

Well I learned a lot from the beginning. I just bought my first Electra Glide and I love it. I'm 63 and this is my third Harley. It's a 2005 Screaming Eagle 103, two tone candy cherry red. Only 5000 miles on it. So smooth. I think the blacked out bikes are best along the coastal areas to help fight rust. I've had that problem in the past with chrome. I keep both of my Harleys IN my house with AC & Heating. I prefer the older model Harleys. Too much new electrical shit on the new ones. (not to mention the outrageous prices)

Hi Matt. First thing Thanks for all your super informative & honest videos. I’m from North of the border (Toronto) & been riding for over 30 years (mostly BMW & Japanese sport tourers). Yeah I’m one of the older dudes who traded a Gold Wing (very efficient but no personality + a horrible Nav/radio) on a 2021 Road Glide Limited (taking delivery in June). So yeah I much prefer The Road Glide (like the Shark Nose fairing) over the Electra Glide. Really appreciate your work on KZbin. Cheers, Dave

Matt, MoCo should’ve released a RG Ultra Limited years ago. It’s about time the Shark-nose is finally getting some respect from Harley, remember the factory did not offer a 115th anniversary edition in any of the RG models in ‘18. Understand why they now offer a black finish option, but think the price upgrade is too high..but can’t fault them for that since they are a business and they have to make profit. I’m a chrome guy and upgraded from an ‘11 RGU to a ‘17 Special, but now it looks like an Ultra Special since I added lowers and a TP..hey had to make it my own, lol
@kennethwise71084 жыл бұрын
I don't understand the rationale behind not making a 115th Anniversary Road Glide either, ESPECIALLY when they made a 95th, 100th, 105th, 110th anniversary model previously! In addition it was one of their best sellers at that point in time. You can thank Matt Levatich for that...

Personally, for me, I like the factory blacked out in certain colors, like the orange or the white bikes. Most other colors, give me the chrome, because I'll always be old school like that! Currently ride a 05 Electra Glide Classic, FLHTC. Getting ready to put cams in her, and by her I mean Ruby, her name. Getting cams and a new cam plate to upgrade the tensioners, yes, still have a bike with the old spring tensioners. Ruby has 31K and they are worn about half way through. Already has the big bore putting her up to a 95 CI. Why the previous owner didn't do the cams and upgrade the cam plate and tensioners, I have no idea. But, next week she will be getting the upgrade. With 31K she is still holding great oil pressure, 32 pounds at idle. Thanks for the video, always liked the dresser Electra Glide!

Matt, great job with your history! I have a 1985 FLHT that came from York with an extremely rare Radio caddie on it and a volume control on the left hand side of the bars. Check it out on KZbin when you get a chance, its 100% original and unmolested. You should also consider doing a fixed fairing version of this nature. Those versions started with the Liberator Harley Davidson made by Vetter then the Tour Glide models and finally the Road Glide models. I gotta confess, those first Vetter Model bikes were EXTREMELY hideous looking but in my opinion they're historical in nature and I've never seen one totally restored. Again, great job! I’m not a fan of the blacked out newer versions with no heel toe shifter , no bag liners , & only one Key 🔑 Fob. I’m going to stick with this bike & might do a 131 Screaming 🙀 Eagle swap & upgrade the Infotainment system to the newer one! Harley says it can’t be done ✅ but I know it can as people are doing it all over with the adapter kits being sold !
@joseabetancourt-alicea66824 жыл бұрын

Everything you listed can be added to the newer bikes. A lot of people take off the heel shifter and never use the second key fob so why include them? I also recommend a fuel moto or zipper performance engine kit since you don’t have a Powertrain warranty anymore.

Matt, first things first. You make some great videos so keep it up man. I picked up a Road Glide Special and just added a slightly higher bars (14”) That combo gave it a great feel and I really do like the blacked out look. I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned guys buying the standard Road Glides/Street Glides and adding their own tour packs. Limited Bikes are still great bikes but you can cut a few bucks off the price and add the things you want specifically. 🤙🏼

Thanks man. Congrats on the FLTRXS. That bike is quickly becoming one of the most popular motorcycles out there

love the ultra limited, not a fan of the road glide. as money is a factor, I will ultimately buy the electra glide standard. great video Matt, please keep educating us on the product. makes it a lot easier when coming into the showroom to buy.

I'm not an Electra Glide guy but I absolutely think offering both black and chrome is smart and ESSENTIAL in today's market.

I have a 2017 chrome Ultra limited in vivid black, love it, love the 107 performance, the bike is big but the torque and overall feel is very solid

I love my 2020 Ultra Limited in River Rock Gray and blacked out! Thanks for the history informations about my bike! My taste is more the classic Batwing over the Sharknose, because the side view is more coherent. The front looks great on both! The first 1000 miles are done, now it's off to service. CU from Austria, stay healthy!

Great history lesson, so thank you! '17 Ultra Limited. I'm 5'9" and always thought I would end up with the RGU. When I rode both, I preferred the UL, so that's what I bought. The choice of finishes is a smart move by HD. Right now I prefer chrome, but I might be persuaded over to black. BTW, thanks for your previous video on rear stock options. I went with the Fox IFP-Rs based on your recommendation and love them! Keep the videos coming, you're the best 👌

As the owner of a ‘17 RGS, if prefer the Road Glide. I’d did a back to back comparison of the SGS and RGS, and the RGS was just more comfortable for me and more of my style. I am a shorter rider at 5’9”, but I still preferred the RGS. My next one will be the new RG Limited. I loved the looks of my RGS, but as I get older, I’m looking for those creature comforts a Limited will offer

Matt, great job as usual. Would love to see a comparison of the all blacked out Ultra Limited vs the blacked out SGS. These blacked out versions are some of the best looking, most appealing bikes Harley has ever put out!
