From GP Legends to Assetto Corsa Competizione - The Nürburgring Nordschleife in Sim Racing Titles was first shown 26 years ago. We have recorded a lap with 12 different racing / simulation titles to show how graphics, visuals and sound have evolved in almost 3 decades! For the year of the titles, we chose the date of the tracks introduction.

We also released Nordschleife for Viper Racing, but it was a convertion from another game. Can't remember which one.

Gran turismo 4 still holds up big time!!! This was the first game I played where I was able to adjust a car so much on a game, and the graphics are still top-notch! And it was right when I started to get into Initial D in 2004...😢 those were the days😅

GT5 was the first version of any game that I played that had a fairly realistic version of Nords. I did play GT4 briefly, but my PS2 died and I upgraded to PS3.

Dang, what a well crafted video! It was really cool to see the rapid evolution of the Nord. My first time driving at the green hell is in GT4, but it wasn't so much learning the track as it was just surviving it. Nowadays, I practice there mostly on GT7, AMS2, and Assetto Corsa. Keep the great content coming!

How did you come up with some of the dates? AC officially launched in 2014 with the Nordschleife coming with the Dream Pack 1 in March 2015 and iRacing followed later that year. 😊

Every Grand Prix Legends simracer knows the tree of trees, the grandfather of all trees... after compression in Fuchsröhre, on the right side. This tree killed so much cars after making a slight driving mistake in compression. A Grand Prix in Pro Mode is hard to survive, but very satisfying if you manage to see the checkered flag.

The cockpit cam from iRacing looks so unnatural. The car moves a lot but the driver stays still at all of the time. It would be nice to also see some movement like in the other games for the drivers head

It has the options, but most people turn it off, to concentrate on racing. I like it turned up. The sounds suck on iRacing, and the video was foggy, so also didn't look great

That was Codemasters... slightly mad studios wanted to create a arcade version of pcars for everybody... a Horizon version compared to Forza... but Codemasters ordered them to rename it to pcars3.... and when codemasters was bought by EA... EA pulled the plug on pcars4 while it was under development... but fear not Ian Bell (the lead of the game) has started a new company and are making a GTR 3 game, called GTRevival!

Hi Guys, I love this video and how it shows the improvements of racing simulation graphics. The video title is "Evolution of the NORDSCHLEIFE" - but the first video part ("Grand Prix Legends" from 1998), 0:00 - 0:46 is showing parts the old GP Course of the Nürburgring, but NOT the Nordschleife: 0:00 - 0:07 Gegengerade 0:07 - 0:22 Nordkehre 0:22 - 0:38 Start-Ziel-Gerade 0:38 - 0:46 Beginning of the "Südschleife", the corners before "Bränkekopf" The Nordschleife nowadays is connected, where the "Nordkehre" was in this Sim. Have a look at a map of the Nürburgring Track shown in "Grand Prix Legends": de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Circuit_N%C3%BCrburgring-1927-S%C3%BCdschleife.svg But that only bothers me marginally about the video. Buy it man! This is by far the most fun in ACC I've had in years racing on this track. Especially now since there are quite a few online servers hosting the track. Made me come back to ACC from Iracing :)

Forza and GT really stand out in that as looking truly abysmal 'sims'. Jumping between how the cars act in things like AC, AMS2 and even the maligned PC2 really shows a huge difference between the games and the sims. Although the best one is how much more advanced GPL appears to Forza and GT.

Forza and GT are simcade. I have ams2, ac, ACC, pc2 I also even played back gpl back in the day. Honestly the latest Forza is not actually that bad. For a joypad experience it's absolutely fine. A bit of fine tuning and some are the cars are super fun to drive and pretty real feeling. The problem with it is that it lacks tracks. I got it on sale and it's quite good. Definitely not abysmal.

By what principle were these games selected? Forza Motorsport, NfS Shift 2 Unleashed, PCars 1,2 Automobilista 2 are not simulators. The games are certainly decent, but they are half arcade games. The author clearly needs to become more familiar with the term "racing car simulator".

This isn't how sim racing looked like 20 years ago. And by not even telling the audience, it's crossing the line into historical revisionism - there are commenters here who seem to believe games actually looked like this two decades ago! "Here's how a 26 year old and *heavily modded* game runs on modern hardware." "And here's how a Playstation 2 game looks like when emulated on a modern gaming PC, with up-scaled geometry and in high resolution." Etc.

Graphically GT7 looks the best followed by ACC. AMS2 and PC2 looks about the same (obviously) then you have a mishmash of dated graphics engines (rF, iRacing, GTR ) and the overwhelmingly disappointing graphics of the new Forza game.
