If printing magazines that fit can show more issues than sanded factory magazines, might not be a bad idea to also design a jig to sand down mags close to fitting and then fine tune it to fit.
@booliganshootingsports3 жыл бұрын
That's exactly the plan! I realized that I explained option 1 (sanding a factory mag) but I forgot to explain option two which is a printable double stack/single feed Evo 3 shaped magazine which I designed and tested briefly. It runs fine, but I really want slightly modified factory mags to be the preferred way to run this. And having a "your mag must fit this profile" jig is a big part of that plan.

The way you get around the double feed issue is you do double feed ramps and the best illustration is on an AR-15 that has the dual feed ramp option and that's how they solve the problem but first rule thumbing gun design when you're using another style of magazine and not designing your own don't alter the magazine alter the design so the magazine will work as is
@booliganshootingsports2 жыл бұрын
The issue is, with the Mac upper or bolt, you have to do machining in order to fit an Evo mag without modifications. Since that’s out of the realm of possibility for most end users, modifying the magazine to fit is the better option for a DIY project.

Could it be a magazine spring and recoil spring issue? I’ve had similar feed issues and sometimes it’s just an issue with spring strength. Just a thought- great video!
@booliganshootingsports3 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't be a mag spring issue since it's a brand new factory mag. It's really just stemming from the biggest issue of proverbially making a round peg feed into a square hole. Mashing parts together that were never meant to coexist, but it's improving greatly with every small tweak!

@booliganshootingsports3 жыл бұрын
I've had a lot of people comment on my super short test vid that "It would run great if you fed it better ammo" and I'm like, sure, it probably would. But that's not what's available to everyone all the time (myself included) and I really do think it's important to design something to the worst available product as that's what will become mostly available in slim times like the present. We'll get her running like a top soon :)
@beardoe68743 жыл бұрын
@@booliganshootingsports I don't see steel case ammo as a reliability issue, it's a wear issue. It will beat up your extractor and chamber at a much higher rate. It might beat up the feed ramp and the magazine too. Some things like an AK or a Mosin are robust enough and not particularly refined to begin with so steel is appropriate. They also have a lot of case taper which is important. For something more refined, less robust, less case taper or you just don't want it to wear out, brass case is the way to go. Brass will let you tweak the design to feed with less wear so you won't have to worry about improvement coming from your design vs break in.
