Evora Paint Protection Film Fail

Installing paint protection film on the doors of the car with the best of intentions. I think I could do better next time. Worth doing to protect the paint though. Intent to avoid scratches from cones during autocross and rocks from track days.

You really jumped into the deep end applying PPF as your first vinyl project! It’s thick, probably doesn’t have the little micro holes that regular vinyl has (which makes it soooo much easier to apply without bubbles), and doesn’t want to move at all once lying on the bodywork. Ugh! Very nice job, though! I saw when you were beginning that project that you would be in for a fight. But you had plenty of “professional” help! Thanks for the tip on the Mother’s R3 spray. I track my Evora a lot and usually use gas to get the rubber marks off, then clean with soap and water afterward. The R3 looks like a more elegant solution. Keep up the great video content-and excuse me while I go check my passenger’s side sun visor mirror for the plastic covering!

Haha. Yes my journeyman family team of paint protection film installation experts are at your service. Bring your car by for a great savings compared to the big names in the industry. Lol. I've been very happy with the mothers R3. I got the suggestion from another Lotus owner that tracks his car.

@@GoodmorningGoodnight Hey, regarding one of your previous videos (and maybe I should post this there), with the engine bay vent tube replacement, how has your OEM vent tube been holding up? They seem to flake fairly quickly and just today I ordered some aircraft-grade (300F) tubing to replace my flaking vent tube. It should last longer--any experience with that stuff (neoprene construction with the spiral wire inside to keep its shape)?

@@cadefields-gardner6534 All the forum information is that the OEM one will flake after a year or two as well. So I do think changing the material is a better option. I ended up doing the OEM and wrapping it with the heat shield. Which certainly makes it look better from the outside though. Admittedly could hide a little bit of deterioration on the inside. I think what you're going with would probably be a good solution. Let us know how it goes.

That's pretty solid job. We'll have to get you up to the Tweed HQ Vinyl Studio next time...I've messed up all sorts of wrap attempts. I'm surprised you didn't do color matched gloss red. It goes on/off a bit easier. There's gloss white on the Boxster in key "Anti-Jake" locations ;)

I had the coolant flush done about 6 mo ago at the shop I take it to. So it's not terribly urgent for a flush, But I probably will have to tackle that sooner or later. It's not on my short list of things to do. But I'll put it on my long list. :)

Is your side number temporary? I'm interested to see if the you can remove the numbers without the film. Perhaps always pull up from the bottom?

The numbers are indeed temporary. They're reusable vinyl. But I've left them on for a few weeks now. So I have yet to actually see if they want to remove. I'll give you an update once I give it a shot.
