At least they offered it to him, but he declined. He's fully 100% retired, and I don't think they could cut a check that would bring him out. So I take some comfort in knowing that they were willing.

He's right on about dads. As men that were raised by our fathers we do have a lot of qualities that our fathers had. Sometimes I wonder even if I sound like my father at times and the way he articulates and his tone.

When he said that, I wondered if the same is equally true for mothers and daughters. I think maybe it isn't, but I don't have anything to back that except except my own experiences and feelings with my own mother (whom I love - we're just not much alike). I wonder if anyone's ever done a study about it.

As a childhood fan of the Shining as a book, and growing up with the iconography of the film, this movie was such a beautiful continuation.. My only tiny note is that Danny as a child had deep, brown eyes like his mom, which, for me, showed their connection and alliance, and also made Danny's trancelike presence stronger. Ewan McGregor did a wonderful job here, but... I wish he had worn dark brown contacts. He would have channelled some elements of young Danny moreso. Otherwise, perfection, a film I will watch several times!

You keep saying Jack Nicholson but I think you really should stay the character of Jack Torrance because Jack Torrance is actually the character that is the father of Danny Torrance not really Jack Nicholson. Jack Nicholson is just playing a character in a roll and he's a lot different than Jack Torrance.

I just saw the movie (which I enjoyed, albeit with some mixed feelings about the recreations, which went into overkill territory for me). I definitely thought to myself: "that's cool! He's got a bit of Danny Lloyd.....but he's definitely got subtle bits of Jack Nicholson too! We all resemble our parents in our behavior! Brilliant!" And sure enough, that's the first thing he says here. My itch is scratched, thanks Rotten Tomatoes! I loved the middle part of Doctor Sleep the best....when it made me FORGET about Kubrick, instead of reminding me every other second! Because you can recreate the set....but you can't recreate the photography! Just compare the elevator banks....BEFORE the blood comes down. I don't know how Kubrick does it, but it's spooky and menacing in his shot, and nothing is even moving! They don't go back to the Overlook in the book, so I think I would have preferred just little flashes and memories of the movie, instead of recreating the gas station Halloran gets his gas at! Or the exact blocking and vocal tones of the Shining's opening interview scene imposed on a completely unrelated interview scene in Doctor Sleep! (At first I thought, wait, is Danny interviewing to be the next caretaker?! lol.) On the other hand, the scene in the car, with the Cobra, that was fantastic. And anytime Rose mixed it up with either Abra or Dan I loved. (I wonder if it was the studio who demanded more Shining recreations, as opposed to making a great new horror movie in new territory, with a few nods to the Kubrick film. Most of that stuff looks like it was just shot so they could get it all in the trailer! Until I watched this movie, I just assumed the entire movie took place at the Overlook, based on what I'd seen!)

They could of done so much more with Jack's character it was a massive anti-climax for me , I know this is more about Danny but are parents define who we become and Jack could of been used more to justify this , I liked that they had jack continuing the loop as the bartender and slightly showed who is at the end of that scene but they should of finished that scene with reference to something jack and Danny know like how Danny left him in the cold from the shinning maze chase but the bourbon keeps him warm !! Just my idea , and wasnt satisfied how rose met her end , i feel the ghosts attacking her was ok but right at before she dies the ghosts should all stop at the same time, turned and look at jack coming down the stairs carrying the axe doing a crazy nickleson smile and laugh at rose and he be the one to kill her then it of shown roses body with someone stood laughing at what the done but in stead of showing jack it was Danny who killed her which would of left it perfect for him to go after a bra the way he did

Dr sleep so good that it 2 looks like a tv b movie even more now. Ironically that it was a tv miniseries but part two aside from a few scenes is a tediously long watch with so many forced scares that it seemed that a child made it. Dr sleep is got to be hard to beat as a movie as a horror experience and as a cinematic event . The masses are retarted but a select few will see this masterpiece.

I think the scariest thing for me in The Shining is when Jack Torrance breaks through the door with the ax and then sticks his head in and says here's Johnny! I felt for Shelley Duvall's character and thought it was really traumatic that there was a Madman trying to break in to the bathroom and she had no way of Escape.

I read the book last winter. The character of Bruce Greenwood had a much bigger role in the book. I thought he would have a bigger part in the movie. Him not being with Danny during all of the movie was a big difference. I never expect a movie to be the same as the book. It was a great scarey movie. Totally loved it. The casting was perfect which is always important for a good movie.
