Rare footage of #644 in operation in Oregon. Sadly due to Vandalism, they had to leave Oregon. As of 2023, DLMX #644 is operational as DYRX #6976. The #231 is almost done with restoration.

They should also re-locate the horn above the cab and replace the EMD steel bell with its original EMD bronze bell. And probably remove the ditch lights to make it more original. I would also love to see them put an S(L)4T on it!

Not sure about the ditch lights, but all the other ideas are good.

That's excellent news! Thanks for replying. Incredible since those sweet sounding horns are rare. I just wish that 644 were here in Florida as I'd gladly volunteer my skills to help in her restoration as I can see in the vid that the body itself needs a lot of work for a durable restoration. :-)

About 1/4 of the way to the turntable, I turned the headlight and gyralite switch on for ya... But once we made it onto the turntable I realized that the breaker switch for the headlights was off due to the cab repaint project. Damn!

Good to see that she's still running. I have many fond memories and photos of the SDP40Fs in the southeast hauling the Champ, Meteor, Star, and Floridian. I hope that 644's nose will be restored. Two things that may be hard to come by are: Obtaining a Leslie S4T/SL4T horn and a brass bell. Hopefully this can be done to get her as close to original as possible. For the horn, a Nathan P5a would also be appropriate since that's what the original Leslie's were replaced with.

@trainzguy24724 жыл бұрын
The locomotive is now owned by Dynamic Rail Preservation (DYRX) and is in service at the Nevada Southern Railroad Museum in Boulder City. It has been renumbered to 6976, its BNSF number. The current objective is to restore it to its BNSF/Santa Fe appearance, as the nose was heavily modified for freight service from its original Amtrak appearance. The long-term goal is to restore it to its appearance as Amtrak 644.
