Description:
After three years spent as a CIA operative, Barry Eisler quit the espionage business to work all over the globe as a corporate lawyer. Ten years later he gave all that up as well, and followed his passion for writing. The result has been 11 bestselling spy thrillers, including his latest, “The God’s Eye View.”
In this wide-ranging interview with The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur, Eisler discusses his experiences at the CIA, his political awakening that arose from seeking out alternative media sources, why the country needs more whistleblowers like Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning, how much of the surveillance state he writes about is real, and why no progressive should be supporting Hillary Clinton.

Lol, Cenk seems to always participate *a lot* in his interviews...but it makes them interesting and more genuine conversations. Barry Eisler got himself a reader with me.

This was a fine interview but they seemed to agree on everything. Just for variety's sake Cenk could you do more interviews with people you don't agree with? Like the David Duke interview. I don't agree with David Duke at all but it was interesting to see him spar verbally with you Cenk.

Cenks question about why no infiltration of al-Qaeda is due immensely to the fact that the organization was extremely clan-oriented. Everybody knows somebody- so to speak. Now that's extremely effective in being impervious to infiltration, but it also though was and still is an immense and the single primary reason why it wasn't remotely as effective as say ISIL - (Minus of course the daddy of them all- in 9/11). Another problem for al-Qaeda was how localized control was over different cells and was simply - anything but this global insurgency dedicated to destroying any and all non Muslims and Shia Muslims - the way it was always exaggerated to be by both us in the west as well as the supposed centralized leadership of the extremely fractured-faction based org in reality. ISI is far more methodical and have legit tactical training that was never remotely a pilar of what the al-Qaeda org was based on. Especially in Iraq and Syria where almost half of the fighting force, and the majority of it in Iraq happen to be in fact either secular or are small warlords who formed militias to fight off the American backed Shia war waged against the local Sunni pop for years and really to this day in many parts. I mean for fuck's sake we both oficcialy and unofficially trained these gov-backed groups who are/were nothing more than Shia death-squads and were more-over - trained by the same evil piece of shit Colonel Steel who was tarred and feathered, (never never truly punished for the atrocities he trained so many to commit and even aided though that is completely proven), referring o the death-squardsin north-western and southern central America drinking the fuckin 80's!!!!!! (Hell, TYT did as great mini- doc about 30 min long about that very topic a while back). Steel taught these guys or aiding those doing the teaching of gov back unofficial and even some opffcicial pro Shia-gov backed death squads and they were and are most certainly guilty of routinely dissapearing, (kidnapping/rendering), Sunni individuals from the west who were then tortured, falsely-imprisoned for horrifically inhumane sorts of ways for eqwually as awful in terms of the length of time with which they were held, and finally in many cases were then similarly excuted thousands of their own fuckin neighbors for half a decade or more - that are identical to the ones we backed and trained in the America's, coincidence.... i think not!. To the point where the watch-dog groups have uncovered massive craves where almost every male were riddled with holes created by fuckin drill-bits, cigarette burns, and had merely one bullet whole in the back of their fuckin heads! And the'se human-rights and watchdog orgs even published finds a while back where torture was/is being employed on such a mass scale by the Shia-Government and those unofficial d-squads - that it was such a massive problem it was without doubt worse than anything similar systemic torture-regimes that existed at the peak of the Iraqi Saddam - run government's depravity, years ago! And these militias aren't beholden or 'loral" to ISI, they are pragmatically making the logical decision that ISIS rule - assisted by them themselves, was far more inhumane and preferable for the local Sunni populated in the west of Iraq than anything US rule was nor and certainly far better for them than the Shia run Maliki Iraq government and even the official Iraqi-controlled military!

+Jesse Haffner Regardless, John Walker Lindh, a clueless kid from Marin County California, was able to not only penetrate Al Qaeda but met Bin Laden himself. Like they mentioned on this clip, if John Walker Lindh could do it then there's no reason deep cover CIA couldn't do it too. There's just not a whole lot of appeal to going deep cover into Islamic culture shock like that.
