In fact, the Supreme Court didn't agree to take on this question, they inserted themselves after the fact....making their inauspicious interruption in the justice process that much more egregious In the wake of Justice improprieties on their part, questionable rulings that fly in the face of existing jurisprudence, this court has made a mockery of citizen representation.

The Court knows the difference and could decide this case tomorrow if it wanted, but they won't. The Court is methodical in how it acts; what they project publicly isn't necessarily what's being conveyed behind closed doors. This case poses more challenges to them than just the legal arguments, they realize this and they're going to give themselves an off ramp. The election looms large over them and this case only magnifies that a hundred fold and because it does they'll avoid having to make a decision before the election. They'll kick the case back down on remand and let the clock run out. They're using this case strategically to play both sides and for good reason, at least in their view.

@@johnscaramis2515 term limits for court justices will be incredibly difficult since the constitution says they get lifetime appointments. Implementing a limit right now means a super majority of both houses of congress have to pass it as an amendment to the constitution as well as the amendment has to pass in at least 38 state legislatures. And with conservative justices being in the majority and their justices overall being young, republicans have every reason to oppose the amendment

they're bogging themselves down like they are because they're intentionally trying to stretch this out as long as possible. they don't want this case decided before the election this fall, at which point one of two things will happen 1) Biden is reelected, in which case they will determine that presidents do NOT have immunity from criminal charges. they won't want to empower Biden in his last four years to do more crimes, and it will be safe to assume Trump will no longer be a player come 2028 2) Trump is reelected, and the case will decide that the president DOES have immunity, or at least has limited immunity because they will want to enable him to create a dynastic situation where conservatives have full and continual control of our government forever and we have McConnell to tank for ultimately killing American democracy if that is the case (along with others, but it was his maneuvering that allowed Trump to appoint three justices in four years and dramatically change the court to what it is now)
