It's the buyers that do due diligence not the sellers, it's to assess risk for their investment. The sellers do the best they can to make sure the people are up front and they seem to have tried to do this with Gillett. But there is no obligation for them to do this, or even for Hicks and Gillett to be honest with them. It's very limited what you can do as the sellers

They were working with DIC (Dubai international Capital) for 18 months until DIC missed deadlines for the steel order for the new stadium and the January transfer window and they got cold feet about them, Parry went to Moores house to let the boss of DIC to let them know that the board are thinking of going in an alternative direction and that's when Sameer Al Ansari the boss gave him an ultimatum to commit to DIC by 5pm or they're walking away and Moores thought he was tryna blackmail them which pushed them towards H&G and was accepted in six days of negotiating compared to 18 months with DIC. They just took their word on everything. But it was all lies.

The amount of disfuntional situations Benitez had to deal with under Hicks and Gilette, it's amazing Liverpool were even in a title race. Publicly offering the managers job to Klinnsmann for a start. @@razer0072073 in a previous podcast Parry explained how he was close to finalising a deal with Dubai International Capital but they kept Moores and Parry high and dry for 18 months until one day after the 2007 January transfer window, Moores told DIC that they might look elsewhere to which DIC replied that Liverpool had until 5pm to commit to them or they'll walk away. At that moment, Moores decided enough was enough and went to Gillett and Hicks instead.

Refusing to sign a centre-back during the defensive crisis (until Matip got injured) and not signing a midfielder during the midfield crisis cost FSG Liverpool dearly. Even, after the spending last summer, it's not enough. Endo is good, but he's not a game-changer like Bellingham, Rice or Rodri.
