This is happening extensively with JEEP Latitude 2.4 (4) ltr TigerShark in California. There is a class action in Michigan.

The real problem is that the piston oil control rings were manufactured improperly! Jeep just gives you a software fix to adjust the fuel injectors or some crap which helps a little but really all the engines should be rebuilt with better piston rings !

Just got the Powertrain Software update for my 2014 Jeep Cherokee which indeed helps the car handle better but I’ll check my oil consumption over the next 3 months and come back with an update. The 2.4L Tigershark is an Italian engine and Italian engines are known to burn oil.

My 2019 jeep rubicon v6 has horrible engine oil consumption it only has 34,000 miles I changed the oil 3000 miles ago I’m fighting with FCA I’m getting a new engine I will fight for that I’ll let you know the results

We can use 5w-30 lm from iraq and very hot weather so 0w-20 not useful I think . Wat u thinking

Mine uses a quart every 1000 or so miles... use to be about 2800 miles a quart. 53k miles on it now. It's used oil since brand new. I just top off here and there. Still runs strong and has the same power it did since new. I dont see the trouble of getting new engine it seems they are just a LOOSE engine with ultra thin oil. I doubt there is any real defect. Looser tolerance gives better gas mileage but vapes oil faster. For every give there is a take I suppose...

@@555_Lady_JB Not to bad. I still top off here and there. I haven't done a milage check between topoffs in awhile. I will do a new one and see where its at now. After the update it didn't use 1 quart every 1000 miles. Ill update ya soon im at 70,000 miles total.

@@555_Lady_JB I really love the renegade. What I believe is the engine like alot of others made now days are really loose. Rings aren't as tight. With the 2.4 tiger its worse with deceleration. The update is supposed to change timing for less vacuum on deceleration. I dont believe it would stop needing topoffs at all even after update. Some were made with tighter rings. Thats why some people dont see the issue. I drove 600 miles yesterday straight ( first time the jeep was on the road in awhile) i checked the oil. It didnt drop any. Normally it would have dropped some. Here is another tip. If you change cabin air filter be mindful, junk will fall off of it and fall into the blower. Then you have to take the blower motor out and clean. Slide something under filter before taking it out. I learned this lesson the hard way.

@@555_Lady_JB I have never used anythong other then 0w 20. Warm weather 5w 20 wouldnt hurt. Full synthetic penzoil.

What could cause excessive oil consumption on a car with the 2.4L that has less than 40k miles on it? My friend has a Cherokee with this engine and it burns so much oil

There's currently a lawsuit involving the Tigershark 2.4L that is in the Cherokees. I don't know the reason for the high consumption going by the lawsuit, but Jeep dealers in the lawsuit admit that the high oil consumption is a known issue and FCA has no plans on fixing it. They're just going to stop using the 2.4 engine. I've heard of some people who document the oil consumption get an engine swap for free from the dealership. They usually go from the 2.4 to the 3.2.

@@Fireteam2479 The Jeep renegade has different engine options. The 2.4 tigershark on the Renegade still may consume oil, but the 1.4 (not in the newer models) and the 1.3 arent known to consume oil.

What grade oil is best for the 2.4. I have a jeep Cherokee and it doesn’t use oil. But 0w20 seems too thin. I’ve heard of them drinking oil at 10,000 miles and needing a new engine.

Not all of them do burn oil. What year is yours?

@@555_Lady_JB I asked him and he said he didn't know if they took it apart first or not. It was shutting down on a curve because the oil level was getting low. He got rid of it after the engine replacement.

Just had an engine swap 4 day's ago and since then ive had to put in 4quarts of oil,it's bruning a mass amount of oil and the mechanic shop say's "it's normal it's an old engine". im pretty sure that's NOT normal and the cause if within this video right here.
