Hey Bert, i have the 420x. Is it fast enough to keep up with a canoe on big open lakes?

Well that's a loaded question! So much depends on the paddle ability of the people you are with. The Explorer is nowhere near as streamlined as a canoe but if you're out with friends for a mellow paddle then you shouldn't have a problem, but you won't win many races!

Question for you Bert, have you tried out the FastTrack series? If so, what did you think? Trying to decide between the Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack and the Sea Eagle 380x Explorer -- mostly do flatwater and light rivers (nothing beyond class II)
@bertsadventures99742 жыл бұрын
I've never used the FastTrack but from what I gather it is similar construction to the Explorer, but the hull is shaped differently to cut through water better. My opinion? I still think the Explorer is the most versatile of all the Sea Eagle boats.
@n8goulet3 жыл бұрын
That's awesome Bert that you've got a Sea Eagle fleet now like me. I just made a deal to add a RazorLite to mine. Some day, I may add an Explorer. But be sure to add the best inflatable kayak in the world to your fleet....The Sea Eagle Paddleski. Just came back on the market yesterday! Unsure where it stands next to the wonderful previous model for paddling, but the new model can handle much faster motors if your in the lucky enough position to have the ability to transport such a thing. But check it out.
@bertsadventures99743 жыл бұрын
Yea, I can't wait to see / try out the paddleski! But I"m also the proud new owner of a new pontoon boat so I think that will be my "motoring" option and I'll just paddle when I kayak.
@n8goulet3 жыл бұрын
@@bertsadventures9974 When you try out the Paddleski, be sure to try out the last model 435ps too. I suspect it's paddling ability is much better than the new 437ps, which comes with a warning the boat was really designed for motor use in mind, but can be paddled. Obviously, the 437ps will motor a lot faster if you want to take a larger motor, but I'm pretty happy with the 3HP motor, which blows away using a trolling motor as I did previously. Both of my Paddleski's were the last version of the 435ps offered, which paddle better than the older 435ps with the blue plastic handles. It's also lighter weight. The 437ps is also significantly heavier too at something like 69 lbs vs 42. I love the option on a single trip on the water, to paddle, motor or sail. No other boats does all that as well as the Paddleski 435ps. The 435ps I believe paddles even better than the Explorer, but I have not actually tried an Explorer yet. Just read more than decades worth of feedback. On an average day, I love the ability to motor at a reasonable speed to a particular sight seeing area of interest, and paddle around the shoreline. And when the winds are right, sail a long distance conserving battery energy, and having plenty to get back one direction if needed as a couple hours later, the winds can change. The 437ps will go much faster than the 435ps with a 5 or 6HP motor, but as a small car owner that is impractical. And I also don't want any chance of smelling gas or spilled oil on my microfiber rugs in my car. One of the many reasons I went with a Torqeedo electric motor. And going lithium above the ability of the 1003s motor is insanely expensive vs only.....just expensive, and less portable too. So I dunno if the 437ps would be a downgrade for my uses or not yet. I tend to think so. I don't fish either, which is an improvement on the 437ps for stand and cast ability. I'm hoping they have a 2nd Paddleski model in the works designed more for the kayak market like the 435ps was rather than the fishing market of the 437ps. I can envision a new model that actually significantly improves paddling over the 435ps. They could make a catamaran hull out of drop stitch material like the Razorlite, and yet be able to handle a 3HP motor as before, and a full sail rig. That would be the kind of upgrade I'd want.
@bertsadventures99743 жыл бұрын
@@n8goulet I hope I get to try one soon! I have tried the old Paddleski and it was a really cool boat, but I have to believe the drop stitch floor will make the new one even better. When I compare the Razorlite to my Explorer I'm convinced drop stitch is the way to go!
@n8goulet3 жыл бұрын
@@bertsadventures9974 Although I have not tried the brand new to the 2021 market 437ps Paddleski, many believe, including some at Sea Eagle, that it likely will not paddle as well as the 435ps. It's a foot wider, larger tubes, and heavier. Until we see a review of an actual comparison, we won't know for certain, but we strongly suspect the 437ps will not paddle as well as the 435ps. The 437ps has a mention right in the owners manual that although you can paddle it without a motor, the boat was designed to be motored. I take this as a warning to those paddling it in very strong winds or currents that you might have trouble paddling back if you don't have a motor on it too, and especially if you are alone. Two paddlers would be easier. The 435ps by comparison was aimed directly at the "kayak" market, and many people that bought them had no plans of using a motor or sail rig. At inflatableboatstogo.com, which used to be (or could be) the world's largest Sea Eagle dealer, out of all the Sea Eagle kayaks sold, original business owners Tim & Crystal chose the Paddleski as their favorite kayak out of all the choices! I wish Sea Eagle had felt the same, and pushed the marketing of this great kayak. Tim & Crystal mainly paddled, but did make use of a motor & sail rig with it too. The 437ps still looks like a great boat to me. It can be used as a kayak like the 435ps, but probably in a more limiting way. The drop stitch floor of the 437ps allows for stand up casting for people that fish. I don't fish. It may also have something to do with it's much faster hull speed when using a motor beyond my 3HP Torqeedo electric, and also likely will go "a little faster" when used with even a 3HP as I max out my hull speed around 2.5HP or so. The 437ps is not categorized as a kayak unlike the 435ps. It's advantages are mainly when used with stronger motors. Something I'm unlikely to do until I get a truck at some point, and of course advantages for people that fish. You can paddle it in calm conditions. Instead of performance being in the middle of Sea Eagle's kayak line, I suspect the 437ps kayaking performance will be at the bottom of the list, or closer to the performance of the SE370/330. But.......we'll see. Hope some reviews are in soon. I also would like to see a 2nd Paddleski made aimed at the kayaking market. Drop stitch catamaran hull, much faster paddling performance, same stability, ability to handle beyond a trolling motor which only Sea Eagle's Paddleski can do (3HP limit is plenty powerful enough), and the use as a great stable sailing platform.

I really enjoy your videos! I’m 6’3” and weigh between 260 and 280. I am trying to decide between a 300x and a 380x. Mostly looking for a kayak for smaller rivers and some class I/II along with lakes. I do fish but am not planning on this becoming a big fishing machine. Do you think the 300x is too small for me? Is there a big difference between the two kayaks in whitewater? Anyway, just throwing out some questions. Thank you!

I would really encourage you to go with the 380X. You'll simply be more comforatble and you will have no issues with class I-II. Longer kayaks are faster and paddle straighter so the 380 will be a much better fit for you.

We're keen to tour our local area, Scotland, which means long lochs (flat / choppy) joined by rivers (smooth with class 1 & 2 parts) flowing to sea bays (choppy / swell). - really struggling to land on the right mix kayak. Add to that some uncertaintly about the 380x or 385ft suitability for permanent 2 paddlers - a tiny bit short? But, then again, we're 5'8" / 155lb + 5'5" /130lb so I can get past that niggle!

@@bertsadventures9974 Hiya Bert, we ended up committing sacrilege by buying an Aquaglide Blackfoot 160..! I'll explain what went on in our heads: - if we went the Sea Eagle route we'd have had to import (if we wanted it soon, which we did!) - the apparent "welded seams" of the Blackfoot struck me as a bonus against the Sea Eagle glued seams - the tubes are larger diameter (12") than the fasttrack which we liked vs choppy water or rivers while the Blackfoot also "felt like" it would perform better on flat water than the Explorers (TBC...!) I don't know if it was necessarily the right decision but we'll find that out...On first test inflation I wasn't too happy with deep crease lines which were evident through the tube coating. In chats to replace it. In the meantime I'm running some tests on ability to retain pressure while it sits in a constant temp environment inside the house.
